Perfect neighborhood French Bistro
Tonight was our first visit to this lovely 25 year old French bistro. While the tiny restaurant was mostly full on a snowy Sunday night, we appeared to be the only couple. This surprised us because Le Gigot is very romantic. The menu is small and filled with classic French dishes that you are happy to put in the hands of an experienced chef. Boeuf Bourguignon, duck confit and cassoulet are all large home cooking projects best left to the pros. We had a crab cake (my favorite dish of the night), spinach soup, duck confit, and steak (brandy peppercorn sauce). Dessert was tarte tatin and creme brulee. All with a nice bordeaux. Everything was executed wonderfully, and the service was pitch perfect. We enjoyed our server very much. We are excited to make this our regular for neighborhood French, as we can't wait to try the rest of the menu. We loved the unassuming confidence about this little place. You don't stay around in this competitive neighborhood for 25 years without having some game.

I realize I have reviewed this restaurant many times in the past but the test of a restaurant's true culinary greatness is consistency. This beautiful little restaurant is still our favorite in this city.
With all of the difficulties and restrictions that have been placed on dining establishments, Le Gigot still manages to turn out the most delicious dishes. My husband and I have enjoyed dining at this lovely French restaurant for many years. Every dish on the menu is a sheer delight to the palate. The presentation is exquisite and beautiful Pamela (the owner) and her staff make you feel so welcome. I always savor these meals and feel a little sad when they are over. I always look forward to going back.
We always enjoy having dinner at Le Gigot but we also love the weekend brunches.
The great thing about the menu is that the dinner menu is available even at brunch. My husband and I have enjoyed having Boeuf Bourguignon and the delicious Poulet at 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon! We have tried practically every dish on the menu and they are all outstanding. The wines and desserts are also excellent.
This lovely restaurant has helped us keep our sanity through these difficult months. It is our escape back to Paris. The ambiance is lovely and the food is sublime.
I highly recommend it.
By the way, the staff is fully vaccinated and all safety protocols are in place.
So Good To Be Back!
In this world we live in now, it's nice to know that there are some things that remain constant. Thank God our favorite restaurant in this city, Le Gigot is one of those things.
My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary as we have done for years at Le Gigot on Sunday. As always, our meal was beyond excellent. I had one of my favorite dishes, the Poulet with Potatoes Gratin and Vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. I always have a hard time choosing between that and the also delicious Boeuf Bourguignon. My husband had the Seafood Risotto. He enjoyed it immensely. The seafood was fresh and the creamy risotto was perfect. For dessert, we had melt in your mouth Sorbet. We also enjoyed several glasses of wine from their excellent collection.
It was wonderful to see the beautiful owner, Pamela again after so many months of being locked down. As always, she greets her diners as if they were guests in her living room. The staff of servers, Daniel, Derrick, Andreus and John also know how to make you feel at home. They make you feel like family.
By the way, the Brunch Menu is also excellent. At Le Gigot you can get dinner dishes at Brunch also. We have been guilty of doing that many times!
Let me add that in during this crisis, safety is of the utmost importance. Le Gigot has implemented excellent safety protocols. We felt absolutely safe there. As a matter of fact, it is the only restaurant we have dined at since dining opened up.
It is so important to support the restaurants that we love during this time. We look forward to going back to our elegant French Bistro very soon. Every meal we have ever had there has been sublime.
A Bit of Paris in New York City
Food presentation, service, preparation and atmosphere were all above par. This is a Parisian style bistro with very few tables in a small space. The staff provided impeccable service, right down to serving the bread with spoons as serving tongs. The meal was delicious and the portions were ample. Every detail was French, except no attitude.

"As if you could kill time without injuring eternity."
-- Henry David Thoreau, "Walden"
Friday finally arrived at day's end after a long utter difficult laborious journey and summons libation with good food. A storm was brewing from the remnants of Hurricane Dorian 2019 forwarding north which became very windy and cold, but did not stop me from enjoying life amid alone. I entered broken. Le Gigot is a quaint small French Bistro in West Village, Manhattan very accessible by A, B, C, D, E, F and M trains at West 4th Street subway station. I miss the City of Light "Paris: La Ville-Lumière", Paris, France. Reservations for parties of three and larger are recommended. I sat at the bar counter, amid very content with the passage of time slowly my mind became phlegmatic. My server Derick is very staff is attentive, professional, welcoming, ready, able and willing with enthusiasm who suggested wine pairing with my food selection. I desired small plates, but not a entree. Upon exiting the weather became colder and the staff inquired if I had a sweater to shield from the cold. Background music was not boisterously loud and is conducive for conversation with dates. Facilities are relatively clean but somewhat small size. The bill is handwritten but itemized. Business cards are available. No Happy Hour is available, but good food, libations and quality customer service are present.
Green Salad $14
Baby greens and fig vinaigrette dressing with half cherry tomatoes
The greens were fresh and the dressing was a good consistent amount slightly salty but a good starter.
Potatoes au gratin $12
It has been forever since I had intake this side dish and I enjoyed it to the tee. The cheese, milk embedded was not thick nor excessively rich or heavy, neither too creamy which I am happy that it was neither. This is one of my favorite classic French side dishes.
Chocolate Cake $14
Served with chocolate sauce and fresh blueberries this dessert was a true delight. I am truly enamored of this dessert.
Muscadet, (Domaine des Quatre Routes Sur Lie) 2018, $15
This white wine was partnered with richer dish as my potato au grain as suggested by Derick which he is on point. Pale with bright yellow tint for a bouquet acidic citrus, orchard fruit that hones a distinct taste. This wine is a nice balance to intake heavy foods.
Pay it forward as my server Derick who served me very well I left a very generous gratuity. Credit cards are accepted. I was well respected, the food is good, overall I was served attentively with humility and grace. I would surely return for the Onglet (hanger steak). I have taken my leave for the evening with the intent to go home comforted and a phlegmatic disposition was achieved.
Village Classic | Cozy French Bistro
Love Le Gigot ! Always feels like home, cozy, friendly & great food. Lots of fresh ingredients from the Union Square Farmers Market, especially the veggies. Classic French Bistro options + unexpected new options as well. Not part of a mega restaurant group that seems to be over taking NYC. Individual owner | operator, so much attention to detail & personal service, like eating a lovely French meal at home...
merci

Quaint restaurant/ bar in Greenwich Village
We came across this place by sauntering around Greenwich Village. We didn’t actually eat there but we did have a bottle of Provence Rose and sat in the window. The owner was a delightful lady who had been there 24 years. A unique experience

Having been in NYC for a couple of days we were craving something a bit more special than the average eaterie. A quick check on TripAdvisor showed us that we were in the vicinity of Le Gigot so off we went. Well this was the perfect meal in every way the food was delicious as was the wine and the staff kept us very happy with their wonderful attentive service. I cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful tiny restaurant and I can't wait to visit NYC again just to eat here. The menu is a bit pricey but so worth it!
Be the first to Replyhow did we miss it all these years ?!
Although we lived for almost four decades in the Village and ate at Pearl's right next door we had never tried this excellent bistro. The atmospher and sevice were perfect. They only have wine and beer. The selections were very good. Looking forward to my next visit.
