😒 3/5 - Somewhat Bland. Major rethink required for the Menu,

We have been regulars since Trompette opened and have travelled throughout Europe visiting Michelin 3, 2 and 1 starred restaurants over thrity year. This was our third visit this year. In August 2022 we had possibly the best meal we have ever had at Trompette, so we eagerly anticipated our late December visit. This was possibly our least favourite experience. All three of us found that we had difficulty selecting courses as none of the choices offered appealed- the word settle for a dish is an odd one to use in a Michelin restaurant. Small portion sizes are a frequent complaint in such establishments but not last night. In fact the opposite was the case for the Foie Gras starter was too large and bland. The Pork Chop had at least 5/6 generous slices but was somewhat chewy and when you consider each slice was 5/6 mouthfuls you had a real trek ahead to chew your way through 25 to 36 mouthfulls of chewy meat. This dish was unbalenced and could have benefitted from a bit less pork and more vegetables to put it simply. Desserts were dissappointing and the Malt Ice Cream although good in itself was presented sitting on a cloyingly sweet caramelesque base. £260 for 3 was not unreasonable price wise as this included a fine bottle of Pinot Noir. Normally this would have been a fair price for a 1 Star establishment but not last night. Service as always was impeccable. We know there has ben a change in chefs between our previous visit in August this year and last night on the 30th of December, but the quality of the food and the selection offered is of real concern. Bland and unbalenced is not how you retain a Michelin star.
