Absolutely amazing food, ambiance, and service.
Worth the trip to Siena just for this place.

Out of this world lunch and best meal we had in Italy! The service was prompt, attentive and professional. The restaurant itself is charming with 2 wine cellars and the oldest street in Siena, encased but visible through a window inside the restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. We started with chicken livers braised in Vin Santo. The combination of sweet and savory was delightful. My husband had the wild boar ragu and I had a When Harry Met Sally moment with my ricotta gnocchi with truffles (even fresh truffle grated on top at the table). We are definitely planning to go back next time we are in Italy. Do need reservations but not to be missed!!

One of the best meals we have ever had anywhere. The quail eggs on sausage with truffles were delicious with an outstanding blend of flavors. The pecorino cheese soufflรฉ with pears was unique and wonderful. The risotto, wild boar, and beef stew were also all wonderful. Service (5) -- outstanding in all respects from start to finish. Atmosphere (5) -- unique especially for a Michelin starred restaurant and absolutely wonderful. We had a wonderful meal and experience. Congratulations to all of the outstanding people involved in making our evening a magical one we will always remember. Thank you

This review was from our November 3, 2023 lunch following our guided tour of beautiful Siena. We asked the waitress if she would separate the bill among four couples but she declined our request. Oh well. We started with two appetizers that we shared and they were both quite tasty. The roasted eggplant was hearty with a tomato and Parmesan cheese ensemble. The mixed green salad (insulata) had a wonderful mix of fresh vegetables with a very nice light dressing. My cocoa pasta in a white wild boar ragu was exquisite and unique. My wife enjoyed the cannelloni pasta filled with cheese and white truffle that she enjoyed. The Italian bread was possibly the best that I tasted in Italy. The service was both efficient without being overbearing. Bravo.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is the best restaurant we have ever been to
This restaurant is the best restaurant we have ever been to and we have been to many restaurants around the United States and Europe. I will start by the service because everyone was very welcoming and Paolo, our waiter, was extremely knowledgeable about the food and the history of the building, and he had the nicest personality. The ambiance was perfect for couples or for groups of friends and family. Everything we ate was the best we've ever eaten: prosciutto, lasagna, filet, tiramisu and pears in wine!

Outstanding! Absolutely loved the setting of the meal with the wine cellar, quaint size, and old brick. The service was fantastic from beginning to end. Though the meal had a set and time, there was no feeling of haste to any aspect. The food was phenomenal from the complimentary zuppa to the tiramisu.
Be the first to Replythe osso bucco was mediocre - tough and tasteless.
the gnocchi was fluffy and excellant. wait staff were remote and unconcerned

Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant was spectacular.
We had pasta and gnocchi to start. Both were served with shaved black truffles. Then my husband had the Osso Bucco which was so tender it just fell away from the bone. I had the wild boar--spectacular!!! I had never had wild boar before and this was a revelation. I recommend it highly; it is cooked for 8 hours, 4 hours in white wine and 4 hours in milk. We had roasted vegetables and spinach to accompany the meal. A dessert sampler to finish. Wines were: Prosecco to accompany the chef's potato soup, then Montepulciano (osso bucco) and Chianti Classico (wild boar) with our main dishes. And two dessert wines to finish. Mine was apricot- y and from a small island of 700 inhabitants located between Italy and Africa. Unfortunately I left my phone in the hotel so have no photos to share. The ambiance, the wait staff, the food.,. Five stars. We feel very lucky. Note: very steep incline to reach restaurant from Campo de Palio. Take a cab if possible. After dinner the walk home was mostly downhill.
Be the first to ReplyVery excited to have stumbled upon another Michelin star
Very excited to have stumbled upon another Michelin star restaurant while traveling through Italy. As soon as I saw it, I walked in to get reservations. We were able to secure seats that evening due the first seating. The interior is lovely and they have a vibe and cheese cellar that looks super cool and has that humus, cool and musty smell to it. Primo!! I have to say that I was a bit disappointed overall. The Portions were small. Now, I realize that this is a Michelin star restaurant and don't expect big American portions, however, that being said they were a bit small not being a tasting menu. We asked to split a garden side salad but He gave us the special salad which was the wrong salad and twice the price. The salad contains slides grapes which were different fur a salad but tasted good. The problem was that there were grape seeds all over the salad and in the grapes and ruined each bite. The plating left a lot to be desired. Like they say, you eat with your eyes first. There wasn't much for the eyes to chew on here. Very boring and plain. I expect much more from an award winning restaurant of this caliber and with these prices. Overall, the meal could have been much better in multiple ways. Disappointing to say the least.

Last minute and hungry we called this restaurant and they sat us immediately. This was in November, so I am sure that is not always the case. Incredibly friendly, they were so happy we brought our very small dog (in a carrier) and welcomed him as well. They have an Etruscan cave where you can sit, but it was a little too damp for my asthmatic lungs so we sat in the main dining room. Our appetizer was a poached egg with cheese and artichoke and truffles (and I am writing this a few days later so I can't recall the name). It was rich and amazing, we shared it, but I could have had my own! They even brought us GF bread warmed so use with the local olive oil and we couldn't help but soak up some of the sauce with it too. I highly recommend that dish- flavorful, rich but light, and something you wouldn't find at home. For dinner I had a beautiful pork dish, incredibly tender, with a crisp finish, but melted in my mouth. We had wonderful wine suggested by the staff, I think a Brunello, and we skipped dessert, which is how we roll and not a reflection of their options. My dinner partner had a risotto dish (we are both GF diners) which was very good, flavorful and very rich. We actually brought half of that home! Looking at their website, I really thought this was going to be a bit stuffy and pretentious but the welcome was incredibly warm and effusive and I would absolutely go back for another meal any time- they were really warm, professional, and the chef was incredible! Plus, where are you ever going to get a chance to eat in an Etruscan cave again?

So we were just randomly looking for a place in Siena for dinner. This place caught our eye on atmosphere alone. But wow the food and service....second to none!! We had an amazing pici and another pasta dish. An exquisite pecorino and pear starter. And the best desert so far in Italy. This place is amazing and worth getting in there.
Be the first to ReplyIt's an interesting venue.
It's difficult to get a reservation however we were invited with wonderful people we just met on vacation. The food choices were many. You are allowed 1.75 hours for dining before the next seating arrives. We ordered a drink and we were a bit rushed to decide on our dinners. I felt, as did the others, our foods were average and presentation needed help. Staff was helpful, and the hostess was great! Go decide for yourself!
Be the first to ReplyWent to this Tuscan restuarant (Siena, Italy) for the last
Went to this Tuscan restuarant (Siena, Italy) for the last lunch sitting with friends at 2:00pm on a Thursday in the fall. This is a well known Italian restuarant recognized repeatedly (no stars yet) by the Michelin Restuarant Guide rating system.Setting: The restuarant was essentially built in an old and reclaimed cave modified to accommodate a restuarant. At the very back and down the stairs is an open area without dinner or lunch tables but where cheeses and wines are stored. I loved the smell of aging cheese and wine in this space. Heading back upstairs, the restuarant dining space was small but not cramped. The space was old and charming, and I imagine romantic at the right time of the evening. Service and Staff: The service was exceptional. Our table staff ( at least 3 came to our table with some portion of service) was outstanding. They were professional, informative, charming and attentive. When one of my lunch friends ordered his steak, one of the owners came to the table with the uncooked cut of meat to show him what he was getting and to confirm his selection. She also used the opportunity to check in with us....Very nice touch.Drinks: I ordered Prosecco by the glass. It was very nice, not too fruity, but at the same time not too dry. I didn't ask what I was drinking but I sensed that it was one of the better house Prosseco poured by the glass. My lunch partners ordered red wine which they seemed to thoroughly enjoy.Lunch: For starters I ordered the Spaghetti Saporiti alla chitarra. This was a great first course. The Spaghetti pasta was prepared the way it should be (al dente). It was made with extra Virgin Olive Oil, a bit of Gorgonzola, garlic, was lightly peppered, and served in a warm plate. The portion served was the correct size for a starter. As far as I am concerned, this was the best dish of our lunch sitting. Although I did not try my lunch partners' meals, I found the Spaghetti to be the visual and aromatic star at the table. My main course was the Griiled Free Range Small Chicken with rosemary herbs. The chicken was a smaller bird - and the perfect size for a lunch that begins with a first course. It definitely did not have the appearance of a hormone-fed bird with too much breast meat. The bird looked like it was "butterflied' and pounded flat which made the plate presentation attractive rather than having an appearance as a heaping mass of food vertically jutting out from my plate. The chicken was moist and tasty. I had rosemary potatoes on the side. In hindsight, it seemed rather silly to have rosemary potatoes with rosemary seasoned chicken. Dessert: For dessert I had the Tiramisu which by Tiramisu standards was very good.Overall, the food was outstanding. In fact, we are all going back tomorrow and my first course will again be the Spaghetti.During our meal there was not the awkward and unpleasant habit of table wait staff asking us how was the meal when we were eating mouthfuls of food. This restuarant should be on your list. You should go now while it's relatively easy to get in. Once they get their well-deserved Michelin star, you'll have a hard time getting in.
Be the first to ReplyTruly an incredible meal.
Everything was 5 stars and the service was wonderful. Be sure to make reservations. The place was packed but for a reason. This is a must eat at place in beautiful Siena.

We had a reservation confirmed, but the restaurant called 25 minutes before and said it is cancelled because they have a bigger group and are going to use our table. No accommodations, just said sorry and hung up. Not what I expect from a Michelin restaurant!

Best ribollita in Tuscany -- one of the best Tuscan restaurants, period? Unassuming with a great wine list, offering traditional food, perfectly prepared. As someone who spends a lot of time researching and eating when road-tripping across Italy, I've yet to find a better exemplar! Make sure to get the ribollita.

Small foodie taverna located in a 1000-year-old building with stone walls. Amazing hospitality and cuisine. We had mozzarella that left us unsuited for American version in the future.

This restaurant is amazing and the food is so good - my favorite meal from a ten day trip across three regions in Italy. Highly recommend the pici and for vegetarians - the straccia pasta with pumpkin and leeks is amazing. My friend really enjoyed his secondi of steak prepared in two ways. Also extremely affordable considering what you're getting. The Etruscan wine cellar is beautiful and the waitstaff let us take a look around - they were very friendly and had great suggestions. Definitely call make a reservation at least a couple weeks beforehand!!!
Be the first to ReplyJaw dropping good.
I made a reservation here based on recommendations from a long time ago, and I can confidently say it was spectacular. Might be a top 5 meal all around for myself as the food is incredible, the ambience is so cool being tucked in to the rocky hillside, and the owner/service are so kind (even was gifted a bottle of wine on the way out). Ordered a ton of items and can't go wrong with anything, but the pecorino soufflรฉ and the ravioli I will never forget. Charming, home-y, relaxed casual bit classy, and just a little classic Italian meal that is worth coming to Siena for. Someday I'll make a trip back here for La Taverna. 5/5 easy
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding place serving excellent food in a unique space.
Returned to Taverna and the food and service is still excellent. We enjoyed antipasta, pasta, and steak of the highest quality as well as truly remarkable deserts. At the end of the meal the Cook and Manager personally thanked us for our patronage and gave us some goodies to go!
