Lively place with great music.
It's a place where you can enjoy great food, drinks, and good times with friends.

Had the Bisteck and Chicken tacos which were very juicy and flavourful. I just think it's too pricey for 2 tacos, and will add up if you wanna eat a lot. Service was lacking big time. Took 40 minutes to take our order, forgot and didn't punch in our order, didn't offer anything to make up for it. I am not from NY and just ruined the first day of my trip. Restaurant was very busy but it's small and seemed like they were concerned about their downstairs bar patrons instead of the dine in. Food was good and the vibes were nice tho.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food service ambience quite an experience.
Very cool and Soho. Always find time to go back for a great margarita.
Be the first to ReplyThis place had taken a hard nosedive.
Had my leather jacket stolen there a few weeks ago. I've emailed them twice and left 2 voicemails to see if anyone turned it in. No reply. This place used to be high end, no longer. Avoid. There are much better places, it's essentially a tourist trap and overrated bar now.
Be the first to ReplyLast Thursday I had lunch here.
Carnita Tacos and Elotes Callejeros. The tacos were fine but the elotes (grilled corn) was not as the corn cob had frizzled corn which was not succulent. I was sitting or trying to sit on a rickety stool which was making me nervous in case I fell. Years ago when I worked in this neighborhood I used to come to La Esquina with colleagues and we all liked the place a lot both at the counter and at the restaurant. Fast forward the prices have shot up but the quality has not. The guy who took the order explained the increase - blame it on Covid which pretty much has ruined a lot of things and lives. I doubt if I will ever return here.

I've been to la esquina quite a lot especially when I used to go out more socially and a few years ago it wasn't a pain in the ass to get a reservation here nor was it ever so crowded!! I went last night around 6pm and not only was it packed in the "speakeasy" but it was impossible to move around without a line forming at every which way. It's great to see its reaching the masses but the quality has definitely gone down over the years. The drinks are fine as those are made ready to order- and the ceviche is still top notch, but the appetizers and mains have gone down in portion size and the tres leches cake I ordered was simply just straight out bad!!! It smelled and tasted like it had been shoved in the depths of a freezer since the pandemic. I was severely disappointed by how poor the quality of the food has become here but if you're looking for a place to have a drink with an intimate candle light setting while they're blasting deep house, then this is the right place for you. They do offer reservations for large parties but a party generally requires pre fixie. Definitely a cool spot to check out but nothing too crazy in terms of food - can for sure find more authentic Mexican for a fraction of the cost elsewhere
Be the first to ReplyThis place is the best.
Haven't tried the food but the speakeasy here is my favorite in the entire city. Very fun vibes and great drinks

When I'm in NY and in the soho area I will definitely stop in for a few Tacos. I just walk up to the window and order a few to go. The service has always been fast and good. The carnitas and bistec tacos are real good. It's been some time since I ate inside the restaurant and it was real good and the service was good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great drinks, great service.
Came here with a few coworkers for some late night bites and was not disappointed. The restaurant is considered a speakeasy, so make sure you make reservations prior. Tacos are authentic and they pair very well with the beers they have on tap. The ambience is awesome with a vampire/prohibition vibe. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance here was awesome.
Dim light and good music. And the spicy marg was the best I've ever had -- we got 4 rounds. However the queso took the cake. I will be dreaming about it and already planning my next visit here. They also brought out complimentary desserts for the bday girl! Great service
Be the first to Replysmallest ass little portions for the most expensive prices.
i paid $24 for ceviche that came in a sundae glass and looked like soup? no. absolutely not
Be the first to ReplyIf i could give more than 5 stars, i would.
be ready to feel transported into a prohibition era speakeasy, including the mystery of finding the restaurant and being allowed to enter.... the whole experience was magnificent. The Mexican food was delectable, the service, outstanding, and again the place is an experience on its own. Make sure you have reservations, or you will not get a table.

We just stopped in for drinks and our bartender was wonderful. The spicy daisy was definitely the favorite. I did the pepino Diablo and while it was super refreshing, I wouldn't do it again. The cucumber muddled was too much in the drink itself

Wednesday 1/27/2023 at 6:10pm I walked into La Esquina and asked to sit in the corner by the glass bar.I was told by the waiter with the shag/wolf cut and colorful bead necklaces that I couldn't sit there. The place was empty except two girls by the window. I asked if there was a reason and he put his hands up signaling he didn't know why. Literally moved his body and waived the menus pointing me to sit in the section at the end that was a four top and a large corner booth. I asked for a bit of clarification, are the seats reserved, what's up because the table he's putting me at is a four top, and the table I requested is a two seater. I was a party of one. Make it make sense.Naturally two other tables walk in. Guess where he puts them. The tables in the corner by the glass I had requested. No reservations, the tables weren't reserved. They walked in and sat their merry behinds down, no questions asked. So, as he came over to ask for my drink. I asked...is there a reason why you sat them there and you specifically told me I couldn't sit there. This boy gaslit me and said, " I never said you couldn't sit there, I said you can't sit in the white booths."I'm not an asshole but I know when you're lying. I asked again for him to explain it to me. I asked for the manager. He said no and proceeded to ask for my drink order.NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER EAT HERE AND I WILL FO EVEYTHING IN MY POWER TO AMKE SURE NO ONE IN MY OFFICE DOES.Not that it matters to this place.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best "street tacos" I've had in the city.
The flavors were different than the usual but still amazing. Service was kind and punctual as well. A must-try for any taco affectionato. They had a lot of good looking drinks but we didn't get a chance to try tonight.

Food - 4Service - 5Ambiance - 5I have been dying to try la esquina and I'm so happy I finally was able to. I tend to be a little skeptical about very popular and "vibey" places because I find they are usually over rated. Not the case for la esquina the food, service and vibe were all GREAT. They lead you down the stairs and through the kitchen to get into the restaurant which was a very cool experience. The table tried the pepino diablo (spicy cucumber marg), passion fruit marg and blood orange marg, blood orange was my favorite but they were all delish. We had the elote and queso fundido, the queso was so good very unique with the honey and pepitas they made it almost sweet. They we split chicken and avocado toastadas - my favorites. And the steak and blt shrimp tacos - steak was unreal but the shrimp was so spicy it was almost hard to enjoy. The service was great we weren't rushed and they were so helpful in choosing from the menu. This is a great pre going out spot it's definitely very loud and dark so more of a party scene. We went at 7:30 and when we left around 9:15 there was a dj playing music and people were dancing around the bar it was so fun!
Be the first to ReplyWow just.
..WOW. I am extremely shocked by all the negative reviews because of how great my visit was. The staff was super accommodating and helpful, seamless process of getting in and getting seated. Our waiter was awesome and gave us so many great recommendations on what to order. We balled out and ordered everything that sounded good just to try it out. Started out with the queso which I will say was the star of the show. I'm still dreaming about it. Paired so well with the plantain chips. Next up we ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole and chicken tacos. Solid 10/10s. Nothing bad to say. On the side we ordered the elote which was absolutely amazing as well as the jicama slaw. Alongside the food we had some margaritas, which of course always hit the spot at any Mexican spot. Always room for dessert you know the rules, we got the tres leches...truly a great way to end the night. It was decadent and tasted so fresh. I cannot recommend La Esquina enough if you haven't been already.

I used to love this place it was so chill and fun but I just had the worst experience with the so called manager James. He was adamant that this restaurant that has never required a reservation required one and I have been going there for 7 years he claimed it's always been a reservation required restaurant for 18 years which is just not true. He was super rude and when I asked his name and title he was dismissive so when I asked for the name of the owner he said "look it up" DO NOT GO HERE
Be the first to ReplyI like it but way better choices locally.
The place is clean and easy to get in and out of. The owners are super nice. However, dining in isn't very appealing.

They told us that the place was busy at the opening but just accepted a group of people before us to go to the bar without reservation.I think they just pick who can get in or not. Maybe we were too dark ?
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite places in NYC.
This speak easy is a little mysterious which adds to the fun! my party had a reservation at 9 and although it seems late it ended up being the perfect time (especially on a weekend) if you're looking for a more upbeat/fun night or to go out afterwards. The drinks are great and once we finished dinner at our table we moved to the bar area for a while before going out! I definitely recommend this for night life lovers or people who enjoy a busier and louder atmosphere. We ordered a few dishes to share at the table like the carnitas tacos, chips and guacamole, quesadilla and a few others - everything was great! Definitely will be back!
Be the first to ReplyI have been to this bar before and never had any issues.
The servers bussers a bad bartenders are all amazing. This past Sunday the manager Marco was so unnecessarily rude to us. We attended a private party for my friend where we spent $3500 not including the separate tabs people had (my side tab alone was almost $400). When the bill came My friends and I had a few questions about the charges which were $65 a person not including drinks. ย We were trying to figure out what time the head count was because we had some people stop by for a drink after the food had stopped. We were being super calm and just trying to fig out if we in fact needed to collect the $100 from our friends that just popped in and out later. Marco immediately seemed almost offended that we inquired and immediately made the conversation into an argument. He would either cut us off while we asked questions, or if he let us get a question in, he flat out told us he wasn't going to answer. I've managed a super busy restaurant in tribeca for almost a decade and sometimes the customer is right sometimes they're wrong, but as a manager you're supposed to hear the customer out and articulately give a response. Marco threw what could only be described as a temper tantrum. Then on top of that after our "talk" I noticed a few people had a little too much to drink so I helped call cars and even helped carry someone up the stairs to his cab I came down to but a beer for me and my friend that just showed up and I was told I could only have water because marco saw me ย unable to walk. My friends all knew this was a lie and i could see the bartender was super uncomfortable having to tell someone that seemed plenty coherent that they were cut off. So we left. We were not trying to pull one over on anyone or fight to get money taken off the bill. We just wanted to see how to split up the bill. They lost out on a good amount of money from a mostly industry crowd that tips fat.
Be the first to ReplyPretty underwhelming experience.
Hostess tried to seat the party of 3 at a table for 2 (third seat was a bench taller than the table that was also a foot higher than the 2 chairs). We'd had a reservation for over two weeks and requested a table intended for 3 and the hostess obliged. Once seated, it took 25 minutes for an employee to fill our glasses with water! The food was ok, but the "most popular item" to share (an appetizer of chips, avo, pico de gallo and salsa) isn't even on the menu (it costs $13 FYI). I had noticed the platter on someone else's table and asked what menu item that was. At the end of the meal, we noticed an error on the bill that was an overcharge - the waitress acknowledged the mistake and left. When she returned 5 minutes later, she did not have a new bill for us but was expecting us to pay for their mistake! Honestly, this restaurant was all hype. I could have had a better meal and a more pleasant experience at most Mexican restaurants in the city. I felt like the staff knew they'd blown it, and didn't even try to make us leave as satisfied customers. By the way I called the next day to give this feedback to a manager, but I was told that the manager was too busy to take my call...
Be the first to ReplyGet set, get ready, RUN!!! Don't walk.
.. to La Esquina's NEW side restaurant that is super chill and delicious!!!First, the downstairs we all know about is not even a question! We all know it's the best lounge around. PERIOD. Anyone complaining about getting in/bouncer LALALA.. just stop. We don't want to hear your whiny, annoying review. If you can't get in, just plan ahead. Gosh.Okkkkkk so for the main review --- I AM WRITING ABOUT THE NEW - 3 month old, side restaurant which still doesn't have its own place on Yelp. OMG GUYS. You have got to go here ASAP. Immediately. Right now. The same menu obv. But the best part!!! - it's super chill, we have TLC, Beyoncรฉ old school vibes, r&b.. let's just say us Millennials will appreciate this.. vibes right here. also, I've never had their Chile relleno but WOW, just delicious so wow ! Unbeatable. Unless of course, your Mexican grandmother is cooking at home, then that would take the cake for authenticity and flavor! But if you unfortunately don't have a wonderful Mexican grandma to make u these dishes, you have to settle for the next best thing! And that's going to be right here... so go ahead, enjoy your Friday - friYAY night out . Chill out and get yourself drink. Enjoy your own company. Like I do- hehe a self proclaimed food critic that specializes in small business. But what do I know?! Give them a try and let me know how you feel about it.. I'll be checking back for those yummy reviews.. mmmmm!!!!
