A must for every foodie in Japan. The Chef is a master.
What an absolute delight! We have eaten at multiple Michelin star restaurants all over the world and Biographie stands out among them! The diversity of flavor and technique alone is mind boggling. The combination of French cuisine with Japanese flavors and products is done with grace and mastery. I wish I had a bigger stomach to have eaten every bite but I paced myself to try everything and I am so glad I did. This is a do not miss restaurant if you are a foodie in Japan. Congratulations to the Chef. A true master.

The head chef was very attentive and explained each dish that was served. Some were magical and everything showed great creativity.

We were fortunate to acquire reservations at this beautiful restaurant the last time we visited Kyoto in June 2017. Kyoto is a haven for absolutely delicious and unique food, and thus before we headed to Japan, we wanted to ensure we made a few reservations at restaurants that sounded unique and special (La Biographie fit that criteria perfectly). Ever since eating at this restaurant, my boyfriend and I always compare each and every dining experience to the atmosphere, the service, and the yumminess of food we experience at La Biographie. We have yet to find another place (with 1 Michelin star) that has created such wonderful dining experience as this place! It is truly a special spot and we would love to have the opportunity to dine there again the next time we visit Kyoto. The service was attentive, the atmosphere was relaxing (as there were only 4 tables in the restaurant and they have a pretty garden the tables overlook), the food was flavorful, and the wine pairings accompanied every dish perfectly. Furthermore, it is a special experience when the head chef welcomes you into his restaurant and also walks you out of his restaurant while being thankful and humble. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have a romantic meal and a lovely dining experience.

My wife and I enjoyed an outstanding meal at La Biographie in May 2018. What a fabulous place! The food was a terrific blend of Japanese ingredients and French techniques -- across all ten courses of our meal there was no weak link; everything was strong across the board. Among the courses were: - a soft boiled egg -- with a spice cream, maple syrup, vinegar and pepper --- a terrific mix of textures, with sweet, spicy and peppery overtones. Memorable. - white and green asparagus with caviar, mimolette cheese and lemon. Everything cooked "a point", and flavors singing. - a large sea scallop, perfectly cooked, with small squid and seaweed. - a filet of fish, cooked at precisely 63 degrees C, served with pea tendrils, peas, a puree of peas, and a crispy shrimp concoction that was reminiscent of a good latke. - wagyu beef, slow cooked to a perfect medium rare, with the freshest of tiny asparagus spears, along with a selection of petite vegetables done in a tempura. Inspired. - one dessert was strawberry with fennel, raspberry sorbet, strawberry soup, and fine salt crystals. The other dessert was a perfectly cooked banana with raisins, praline and caramel (as well as an ice cream -- I'm blanking on the flavor, but it worked perfectly with the dish. Service was polished and friendly. Cadence was spot on -- not too fast, not too slow. This was worth the trip to Kyoto. It could be no place else -- it spoke to me of Japan, just like Central in Lima shouted "Peru" and Pujol in Mexico City was "Mexico." If you like curated food, and want to see what a master can do with Japanese ingredients using French techniques, eat here. I'd gladly come back.
