I didn't know what to expect as I came here with my boyfriend's suggestion since he knew how much I love Tonkatsu and Katsu Sando as I am Japanese. He researched online and found this spot located in Echo Park. Since it is still considered the pandemic, the inside seatings were not open to the public. It is a small narrow restaurant so I guess that must've been the reason. We ordered at the window and waited by the outdoor seatings that were just outside the storefront. The food came in takeout boxes and plastic reusables. We both ordered Pork Katsu Sandwich and had the Marinated Hodo Yuba to share. The Pork Katsu Sandwich had a nice crispy sound to it as I bit into the sandwich. The meat itself also was not too soft or chewy. Just a perfectly balanced tenderness that sometimes you don't expect from a pork cutlet. What I did notice is that they pulled back on the tonkatsu sauce quite a bit. Normally, for a typical Pork Katsu Sandwich at any restaurant, they will be glazed well with a tasteful sauce that makes the experience complete. I loved artisanal quality of the sandwich as it focused less on the sauce and more on the sandwich and pork katsu quality, but at the same time there was something to be desired especially in a country where we dip sauces in just about everything. It might work in Japan, but may not appreciated here as much due to the differing taste palates. The Marinated Hodo Yuba was interesting as I had nothing like it before. The texture was quite unique. The flavoring was what I expect in Japanese with a sesame mix flavor. I enjoyed the meal, but it was small for what seemed like a decent price. I would love to try other things on the menu next time such as the egg sandwich as those are typically tasty as well. Leaving my review as four out of five, but subject to change with future visits.
