Best Japanese in Singapore
One of the most memorable food experiences ever! Greeted by a doorman, set in a charming historical building with gardens, assisted by pleasant knowledgeable and professional wait staff. Followed by the most incredible Japanese cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, but uninteractive overall
I recently visited Ki-Sho for their $450 omakase experience, and overall, I had a mixed impression. The food, in general, was good, showcasing the chef's skill and the restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients. However, one of the major draws of omakase for me is the intimate interaction between the chef and diners, which was unfortunately missing during our visit. With a party of four, I expected a bit more engagement. Moreover, a standout in terms of expectation vs. reality was the Charcoal Miyazaki beef. Given the reputation of Miyazaki beef, I was looking forward to this course, but it was a letdown. The beef was on the drier side and lacked the flavor I was anticipating. Additionally, this course felt rushed which affected the overall dining rhythm. On the upside, the price was reasonable considering the overall experience. Would I return? Unlikely, but perhaps, with the hope of seeing some improvements in the aspects mentioned. If the interaction and pacing can match the quality of most dishes, this place has the potential to be an excellent omakase destination.
Be the first to ReplyGreat quality with good service
Impromptu lunch session with my colleagues. We were sat at the counter & was offered both sparkling water & Japanese green tea. We opted to upgrade to the Miyazaki beef for an additional $50. Every single dish was immaculate & delicious. The pace was just nice and of course we enjoyed watching the chef prepared our dishes. Service was top notch but wished the Japanese chef/sensei was a little more communicative.

Food was normal. Don’t have the exclusivity and definitely not worth the price. This is also the fastest omakasa I ever had. Done within 45 mins

The best Omakase I ever have in Singapore. Will definitely come back again. Quality food and excellent service. Pricey though
Be the first to ReplyNice food
Nice food and service from the waiter and waitress. I believe the atmosphere would be different if the chef could spend some time to interact with us. Anyway, worth the value. Thank you!
Be the first to Replyomakase at Ki Sho
Service was good, Japanese chef low profile and very quiet, perhaps we were surrounded by Mandarin speaking Chinese. Food presentation was very good, price was $300 per person, not cheap. A5 Beef cubes were excellent. A Instagram destination. An experience but not to repeat so soon.

What makes omakase so enjoyable is the intimacy of the setting and the chef with patrons. There was no interaction between any of the chefs and patrons. Service staff were rather hard handed when laying down dishes. Apart from announcing the name of the dish, there was nothing else - no information about the produce or background of the dish. A pity considering that the resto prides itself on seasonal ingredients and is itself, situated in a heritage b&w house. The whole experience was very sterile and soulless and could have been better.
Be the first to ReplyCocktails at The Bar Kakure
Discovered this fantastic hidden gem of a very private discrete and intimate cocktail bar tat was newly opened 2 months ago. The owner, Mr Chii, brings the Japanese attention to detail and focus on quality to his craft. Aside from the standard cocktails and drinks available are bespoke creations - just ask. He is a magician with the cocktail blender. The bar is perched above a famous Japanese restaurant in an elegant and classic black & white building with ample parking in a beautiful calming environment with trees and greenery all around, even with busy Scotts Road right outside, the serenity is immediate once you pull in. To add to the charm and mystique is the very private entrance secreted in the wall with a private keypad entry. Once inside, the cosy space is immediately comfortable and relaxing. It isn’t cheap but it is an excellent respite from the busy world outside and a wonderful place for a relaxing time with friends lovers or colleagues.

Exquisite dining.l and superb dining experience. Everything was done perfectly by Chef Kazuhiro. Anyone who enjoys good Japanese food must try this.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Omakase Experience
We had an amazing experience @ Ki-Sho thanks to Chef Hamamoto and his team. The setting of the restaurant in the old colonial building along scotts was beautiful, and the interior of the restaurant just exquisite. The food was top notch, with chef dishing out his specials like Tuna Ootoro and Chutoro as well as his Wagyu uni roll which was just out of this world. Would really recommend this place for people who have the budget for it!
PS: They have a special bar on the second floor that serves up the most premium sake you can find !
Kishore the guard will welcome you to a cushy evening at Ki-sho
Among the top sushi restaurants in Singapore, 2-Michelin-star Shoukouwa is my least liked, whereas no-star Ki-sho is my fav. Perhaps because in season it’s usually an uni orgy that sends sea urchin lovers to Cloud Nine. For the best experience, splurge for the $450++ Omakase dinner menu. Generous use of premium and extremely fresh ingredients, diversity of styles, and mastery of techniques by talented chef Hamamoto.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
I heard so many god things about the Omakase here: innovative, interesting, delicious but unfortunately it was none of that. It was one of the pompous restaurants that rely on expensive, imported ingredients (truffles on wagyu?) with little creativity.
Other glitches:
1. We were told that the counter was fully booked (despite availability on the booking site) so we were seated in the private room which looked like a storage room.
2. The waitress sometimes explained the dishes, sometimes not unless asked. Irritating to keep on asking during the many courses.
Would rather go for the Omakase at Tatsuya: half fhe price, double the quality.
A delightful dinner but KAI set seems not worthy
The food was great, service was good, and it’s a very private dinning place. However, the difference between KAI set and AOI set is marginal, which makes me wondering what the additional S$150 is paid for. I would recommend to take AOI set only, which costs S$300 per person. KAI set is S$450 per person with two additional pieces of sushi, which is a big disappointing...

Quite a let down over dinner
With kaiseki, you would expect the food, atmosphere and service to be at least good if not exceptional. Ki-sho did not meet the mark on all 3 fronts.
1. Food was ok but for a restaurant of this standard, it was average at best. Flavours were straightforward and overly reliant on ingredients like truffle (Australian?) instead of freshness and cooking effort. Little evidence of skill and technique to coax flavours out of the food. Sushi was nice though, good rice and fantastic vinegar balance that most people overlook, but it’s not a sushi restaurant is it?
2. Atmosphere was outer Siberian. We were offered the private room. Walls were plain and extra tables and chairs were unceremoniously pushed to both sides in a windowless room so it felt like the spare meeting room in your office that nobody ever wants to use it. Might had been better at the bar counter but unless you like eating alone, in a windowless atmosphere-less room, don’t take the private room.
3. Service was friendly but not knowledgeable nor polished. This was probably the biggest disappointment. Compared to the top end Japanese restaurants here and in Japan where you feel very well looked after from start to end, this was really poor. Once the lovely doorman let us into the restaurant, it felt neither pampering nor professionally executed as would have expected. As mentioned, staff are friendly. But starting from the mumbling manner in which dishes are presented to the fact that we had to walk over to get our sake and pour it ourselves a number of times, I think the service training needs improvement.
Will not be back unless things change.
Interesting and for a change...
A colleague selected this place to have a client lunch. Its high end Japanese restaurant. Location is outside of traditional CBD area - along Scott Rd towards Newton Circus. Not so obvious to locate or find. We nearly missed the place while in a cab on the way there. Its housed within a black & white type of colonial times landed property. Tried the omakase set and all of us in the group were advised by the manager that we need to harmonise so that our food can come at the same time. (we're puzzled).
Each item was exquisite and tasted very nice. But the quantity per course is little. But this make by the number of courses. It does need some getting use to, but most of us are not really "big eaters" I guessed its ok. The ladies in our group should be fine. Overall, the meal was interesting, service was friendly. Hope our client liked it too.
Best Omakase (so far)
Always trying omakase from place to place and so far, this is the best. Service was good and food was fantabulous. No words to describe how much I enjoyed the food.
