Very rude staff unprofessional!!!!
The staff is very rude and can ruin your evening. there was a sign saying restaurant is full we walked in just to ask for information and one of the staff told us get out!!!!! the restaurant is full!!!! make reservation online!!!! Very rude and unprofessional we told her that we were just looking for information and that we tried calling and making reservations online but no body answers the phone and their website doesn’t work. I m not sure if they know that customers are who make them popular, but In my personal and humble opinion they don t have any clue how to look them after. Maybe, it’s a good opportunity to give them low rate and learning how to treat customers. Will take are business some were else. Kyoto it is a fantastic city where they are many other good places to enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience! Chef was rude and arrogant!
Made the reservation as soon as the time slot was available and was really looking forward to it. The kids were excited too because they could finally meet the “egg chef” they saw in video in person. The confirmation email said to be there on time or call them if we are about to be late so that they can keep the seats for us. The traffic was bad that day and I realized that we will be late, so I called the restaurant trying to tell them that we might be late for 10 minutes but no one picked up the phone, I left a message telling them the situation. By the time we got there what we got was the chef yelling at me and my kids, extremely rudely, to get out; even if we told him we got a reservation he still kept saying “out! out! out!” Then the staff showed up and told us our reservation was cancelled because we were late. I tried to explain to them that I called them, according to what they told me in the confirmation email, they simply said they were too busy to pick up the phone. This is ridiculous to hear that a restaurant can’t even keep up with its own policy! They later offer us a table in the corner but you can’t see anything from the kitchen, by that time I lost all the appetite and felt disgusted, hearing the chef’s signature cheering sound in the kitchen, and imagine just a few minutes ago he acted as a complete different person, rude and arrogant, even in front of kids ( this upsets me the most, he screamed in front of my kids, even though they just wanted to get into a restaurant we made a reservation at). We refused their offer and found other restaurant to eat. Anyway lesson learned, we will never go back to that restaurant and hope other people read the review won’t fall for the same trap. If you really need to see him cooking, watching a video will be more than enough.
Be the first to ReplyMore of an experience than just a meal!
After seeing *that* viral video of Chef Yukimura making his famous omurice, I knew we had to put it on our list of things to try in Kyoto. Prior to our trip, I did a bit of research and noticed that they required reservations 2 weeks before you go. Although I was online literally the MINUTE the system was open for our dates, most of the reservations had already been taken and there were only a few time slots left! As soon as we got there, we understood the need for the reservation system. Every seat in the cozy restaurant was taken. Not that there were many seats. They had only 1 table, with the rest of the space being snug bar seating. This allowed the chef to prepare your meal in front of you in a personalized performance. On that note, I think this is classified more as an experience than a meal. The high price reflects, not the quality of the food, but the show. While the food was decent, that alone would not be worth the hefty price tag (it's just omurice!). The real star of the show was Chef Yukimura (and his sous chefs); he danced, twirled, sang, and did his tricks, all while you got to spectate from the bar. It was spectacular, but the novelty wears off as soon as you've experienced it. After all, would you be as enthused watching a show the second, third, fourth time? Overall, if you haven't seen it already, I'd definitely recommend going (and reserving early!); however, if you're just looking for omurice, you're probably better off trying somewhere else for a better bang for your buck.

very good experience and the taste was yummy the owner was very enthusiastic and happy great enviorment overall
Be the first to ReplyChef Motokichi puts up a good show
Omurice is pretty good (especially the special brown sauce). Try to get a seat at the counter instead of booth seating so you can be friends with the chef
Be the first to ReplyExtremely average
Very disappointed with this restaurant. We came just before opening and were told to come back in an half and a half. Fine with us! Came back 10 minutes before our reservation and then were told to wait in line. Had to order our drinks and food in the line and was then taken into the restaurant 15 minutes after our reservation. Didn’t even get to sit at the bench where the cooking and main reason for coming takes place. Had to sit in a tiny table off to the side with another group while the other guests were able to watch the show. We were allowed to get up and stand behind the others to watch our food being made which was entertaining. Food came out and was barely hot, very small and quite average. The worst part is how expensive it all was. Was the most expensive and most average meal we’ve had in Japan
Be the first to ReplyCome for the show, not for the food
This was one of the more expensive meals I had in Japan, and the quality does not match the cost. But I guess the show is what matters here, not the food. We’ve probably all seen the clips on Youtube. And the owner seems like a nice guy. His colleagues however leave much to be desired. I of course had the omurice, which is fried rice with mushrooms, onion, and soybeans. I can’t say I was terribly impressed. I've heard there's chicken in this dish, but I couldn't taste any. The soybeans were undercooked. It’s topped with a runny Japanese style omelette and then drenched in a demi-glace which is rather bland, tasting a bit bitter if anything. One whole omurice is 2 700 yen. You clearly pay 700 for the food and 2 000 for the show. I had a half sized portion for 1 450 yen which was quite enough for me. Come here for the novelty and getting some nice pictures of this internet celebrity cooking for you (although he seemed a bit perplexed that I didn’t want to take any pictures), just don’t expect too much from the food. It's a bit tricky to find this place, but walk through the narrow alley right next to Ponto-cho Beer Hall and Kichi Kichi is to your right. 2 stars for the food and 4 stars for the show.
