Only tried the seafood salad as take out.
It comes with a sauce that is quite salty. The fish weren't that fresh and had that fishy taste to it. They were generous with the amount of fish though. The vermicelli was over cooked and more mushy. The amount of salad is much less than other places.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for a dinner a month ago.
This place was quieter with lesser people in the restaurant. I've seen 3-4 servers working here in the past, but there was only 1 server working that day. We ordered Tonkatsu ($15.80) and Rainbow Roll ($16.90) it was so good. Tonkatsu was freshly made. It was tender and crispy. The food came with rice and salad on the side. Rainbow Roll was good as usual. We shared 2 items for 2 people. Price has gone up, but the food was still enjoyable. Service was fast and efficient.

Nothing like some funeral home sushi to get one's blood moving. Yes, this place used to be a funeral home, and I'm guessing some rich guy's house before that. Parking is available on the side streets behind Kingsway. The place is still proportioned like a house from the early 1900s, which makes it a bit awkward. The front counter is tiny, and the dining area is spread out among the different rooms. Staff were friendly. Buddy and I tried the Party tray A. The rolls are the typical small (normal?) ones, but the nigiri have half the rice compared to basically every other place out there. See photo. Buddy and I looked at each other, and we both knew we were looking at another dinner right after finishing here. This thing was polished off in 15 minutes, and yes, both of us left hungry. Ugh. Knock 1 star off for not so good value. Quality was decent but nothing spectacular. Honestly for the price I'd rather go to Sushi Garden nearby.

This is a lovely restaurant in an old house! The ambiance is comfortable and clean. The service was friendly and efficient. It has an extensive menu with a wide variety of dishes. We went as a family and had a wonderful experience. The Chicken Teriyaki was excellent. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The ramen with vegetables was very good also. We do recommend!
Be the first to ReplyI have been to this place for several years already.
They have delicious aburi sushi. Go for their special roles. I like their awesome role Their sushi combo is the same quality like other sushi restaurant. Sashimi is good, but there are other places with more fresh sashimi.
Be the first to ReplyI remember the restaurant was great years ago.
A lot seem to have changed recently and I was pretty disappointed. First of all, their prices are SO high for what you get. Same items at a high end restaurant by the waters costs less and the ingredients taste so much more fresh than here. Which leads to my second point that their sashimi were very cold, the tuna tasted fishy, and the octopus was very tough. I did like the tiny shrimps. In general the sauces were too overpowering and salty. I mean yes, they taste good and go well with the dishes - especially the volcano roll. But there's too much sauce everywhere and we were drinking water all night after. It was a shame that the sauces were all we could taste on the aburi platter and I couldn't even finish them. Service is good and they filled my tea without me having to ask for it. However, for the same price we paid, there are many other restaurants we could have gone to with higher quality dishes.

The staff here are really sweet and kind but that is about the only compliment I can give this place. The food and quality of the sushi was horrible. My spicy tuna cone tasted fishy, the tempura tasted super doughy and had zero crunch to it. And worst of all we found a dead fly in our hot sake. Also the beef tataki was flavourless and cut way too thick and when you ate it, it was very chewy. I would never go back and I would highly urge anyone to never go.
Be the first to Reply4 of us ate here for my birthday over the weekend.
2 of us (myself included) left with food poisoning. Will not be eating here again.

Treated like cattle -- BEWARE! I had not seen my friends for many months so had lots to catch up on. After eating, the waitress angrily snatched our plates away, slammed the bill on the table, and told us in an extremely agitated tone that we'd been there for 2 hrs. and they were closing. We were in shock because we had no idea of the time limit before; they have a ton of signage everywhere, but not about the time limit. I went to check the waiting area to see if there was a lineup, but not a single person was waiting. She said they were closing, yet there were so many people around us still dining; there was no reason to treat us like we were asking for free food. She then brought a sign to us saying that the dining limit was 1 hour. She should have told us about the 1 hour time limit BEFORE the time limit was up, not keep in silence then, explode at us after we'd been there for 2 hours. They should put that signage on every table to be sure that people see it. The waitress was an older lady, and the owner, which is surprising because you'd think that she'd appreciate her customers. We will not be going back. Giving 2 stars because the food is good and the atmosphere is nice -- until the owner ruined it.
