I have to start by saying that the only Pizarro place I'd been to before was the restaurant in Bermondsey. It's probably my own fault for not checking, but I assumed that the Swan would have a similar menu. It didn't. The menu was almost all tapas. There were a few bigger dishes, but two of the three were for sharing and the third, Norwegian cod and chips, was the only one for one person - and I was eating alone. The fish looked good on other people's tables, but I don't go to a Spanish restaurant to eat English style fish and chips. Having said that, the tapas were very good and I sampled a good number. The tortilla was a little bit dry, but that might be my fault because when I was asked how I liked it - runny, medium or well done - I said medium. The prawn fritters were delicious, so much so that I had them twice. I tried two different salads: a tomato salad with salmorejo dressing, which was wonderful and a green salad which was a bit of a disappointment. It had very little dressing. The padron peppers were very tasty and the helping was quite generous. I love boquerones and these were good ones. I was curious about the harissa and lamb scotch egg. it was tasty and came with celeriac, but I don't think I'd have it again. On the first night I ordered what I thought was the pulpo, octopus, but what I received was the pluma, grilled pork. The friendly waitress offered to swap it, but I kept it, thinking that I'd have the pulpo the following day. But the pluma was quite delicious and I had it the next day as well. The wine list is quite small and the markup is quite high. The desert menu was also quite small, but there were several things that appealed. The chocolate pot with extra virgin olive oil and salt was delicious and larger than I thought it would be. I will be trying to make it at home. I had it with an espresso martini, which was something quite new to me, and absolutely heavenly. At lunch I had strawberry and vanilla ice cream with mandarin sorbet - lovely. On the second night I decided to have cheese. This came in small or large, with little biscuits and quince. There was supposed to be compote, but none appeared. There were three cheeses - manchego, picos blue and a third one whose name I can't remember. They were good, but came in very small portions. Service was very good. I think I'll try more of the London Pizarro places before making my way back to Esher.
