WONDERFUL ITALIAN FOOD
I ordered my favorite lemon breaded pasta and it was fabulous to sit outside and enjoy the heat lamps. It is less crowded than the Brentwood location and more chill vibes. I really love the ample parking spot and ambiance here versus the other location, but both places food quality are really on point. Service is exceptional. They always deserve 100 stars in my opinion and yes I am a super regular.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect spot right in the middle of everything
I adore this amazing eatery. My favorite thing is the Ricotta & Orange Blossom Honey toast. The bread is crunchy, thick, grilled and fullof flavor. The extremely thick layer of high quality ricotta has such a delicate sweeness. Topped with toasted sesame seeds that add not only texture but a slight nuttiness that perfectly compliments the ricotta. And then the piece de resistance is the perfect drizzle of local orange blossom honey it adds the peefect end note to this lucious dish. I love eating there as well. Everyone is so friendly. The cooks are consistent and fabulous. It's so much fun just enjoying the sights and sounds of Fairfax while have the best pizza or various bruschettas they offer. The ambiance is half pizza joint and half Los Angeles trendy eatery. It's definitely one of my favorite places to dine.
Be the first to ReplyJon And Vinny’s
This place was very popular when it opened across the street from Supreme on Fairfax. They used to act like employees at Supreme and had that attitude like you’re lucky to get in. Now that Supreme moved to Sunset Blvd, Jon and Vinny’s is no longer in demand. Not on Fairfax or Brentwood. The food was always ok but not worth waiting in line for or paying their ridiculous prices. The Caesar is good if you’re dining in but it’s a joke if you get it delivered. It comes with 5-6 romaine leaves and not worth $20. I hate to say it but they deserve to fail.
Be the first to ReplyGood food and service. Sketchy part of town
Food and service were great. It’s right on the edge of the hood so we didn’t feel super safe walking there from our hotel Our server was great and his recommendations were spot on Didn’t love the 18% sur charge but I guess that’s the price we pay for California’s minimum wage We had gem lettuce salad and polenta bolognese. Both were good
Be the first to ReplyWatch out for the 18% surcharge!
I'm really torn because the food was GREAT...but we all just cannot get the bad taste out of our mouths for the 18% surcharge on our bill for the staff. They made it clear it wasn't going to the workers as a tip but as a help with cost of living for staff. My question is...why not just charge 18% more for the food! The service and food was outstanding but sadly we won't go back because of this (plus I didn't see it listed anywhere on their website or menus when we dined...maybe it's in some small print somewhere but a negative surprise for us. Sadly, we won't be back.

Really enjoyed the fusilli and the margherita pizza was great. The kind of spot I wish I lived right around the corner from!
Be the first to ReplyPasta to die for
The food at this restaurant is excellent. Fresh, top notch ingredients perfectly executed. Try the vodka pasta for sure. Plus one version of the excellent bruschetta. There is a wine shop, Helen’s, which supplies the wine for the restaurant and you can also go in and buy your own to drink with your meal. Selection is wonderfully eclectic. Service is very good. A few gripes. There is a bit of an in and out culture which detracts from the atmosphere and one feels slightly pushed along. There is also a slight diner approach which does not sit well with the costing of the menu for which you would expect some greater refinement. Also, the mandatory 18% staff charge on top of which service is also expected means the cost bulks up considerably. However, the food does trump these issues .
Be the first to ReplySuper casual but super good
I don’t want to get over-excited but I think I might have discovered my ideal restaurant. Great pizza, out-of-the-park pasta (the cavatelli with fennel sausage is dynamite), great wines - a little shop in the back stuffed with grower champagne and things from Roagna and Roulot and the like - and great tunes. Sadly I’m a 10 hour flight away most of the time but perhaps the restaurateurs of my home town could learn a thing or two.
Be the first to ReplyCost > Quality
Last visited at the original in 2016 Jon & Vinny's has since spawned three siblings, the location at Slauson also acting as home to a Wine Shop though for most it is the Italian Food and Pastries that remain a draw. Open from 8:00am daily, the guys behind Animal and Son of a Gun a known entity including the Restaurant’s narrow footprint with loud music, it was as the door unlocked that two guests were seated at a booth where service proved accommodating. Still adding autograt that isn’t gratuity, a polarizing policy atop prices that only fly in a city like Los Angeles, it was mere moments before Coffee was poured alongside an Apple Fritter and Ricotta Toast, the weekend-only former light and oilless but far smaller than its pricepoint suggests. Moving on to the proper Breakfast menu, one “entree,” spicy ‘Nduja and a side of Crispy Smashed Potatoes rife with Pepper and Parm selected, Carbonara performs well thanks to good Pancetta plus Noodles cooked al dente and a generous amount of Egg Yolk. Not a morning meal for the thrifty at $130 all-in, Cookies from the pastry case are across-the-board impressive, Snickerdoodle, Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter all what one might expect while $2-per-bite Rainbow Cake and $12.75 Bread Pudding are skewed to the left in terms of cost versus quality.
Be the first to ReplyBad seating experience
I'd like to start off by saying that the food and our waiter Evan were wonderful. Everything came out quickly and tasted great, and Evan was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. However, I am unlikely to come back because of how rude the hostess was. I originally made a reservation for 5 people, but we had a last minute change of plans and ended up having a party of 6. I didn't think this would be too much of an issue because usually when you seat a table for 5, there's 3 people on one side and 2 people on the other - it shouldn't be a big jump to then seat 3 people on each side. Regardless, I wanted to call and double check if this would be an issue. I explained this to the woman on the phone, but she told me that upping our party to 6 people from 5 would not be possible, as there was no capacity. She then asked if I wanted to cancel the reservation and wait, but she wouldn't be able to give me a wait time. I told her no worries, I'd still like to keep our existing reservation. We arrived at the restaurant and I told the hostess that we had a reservation for 5 people, but would it be alright if we had 6 people instead. The woman (whose name I believe is Aysia, as she was wearing a necklace saying that) looked at me and very aggressively said "You already called and I already told you that we don't have capacity. You can wait in line or stick with 5 people, but I can't give you a wait time either. What do you want to do?" I was taken aback by her attitude. We decided to wait but were already making plans to eat somewhere else. Additionally, the restaurant was half empty and as we were waiting, we saw Aysia seat a party of 2 at a booth that could have easily fit 6 people. We made one last effort to ask for accommodation, and a kind gentleman quickly told us it wouldn't be an issue at all since, in his words, "We can easily seat 3 people on each side. I'm not sure why [Aysia] told you we don't have room." In all, this experience left a bad impression on us. Even if it was truly impossible to sit 3 people on each side of a table we already had reserved, the manner in which Aysia spoke to us was entirely unacceptable. I understand last minute changes to a reservation can impact the flow of the restaurant, and I would have been completely okay with being denied accommodation had Aysia been less rude. In all, I would not return here and would not recommend this place to others
Be the first to ReplyBest Italian food ever (at least outside of Italy)
First, you must call for reservations as this is a small restaurant. There is some cozy seating outside, but when we went it was too cold to sit outside. The food was outstanding, from the salad to the pasta to the eggplant parmesan. It is served family style, so we all got to sample every dish. It was scrumptuous. The only negative was the noise level; the crowd plus the lous music made conversation very difficult. But, we were so busy eating it wasn't a major problem.
Be the first to ReplySo good
I would have ranked this a 5, but they did not tell us in advance that they add an 18% service charge. (Not on website either). This is not a gratuity, but so they can pay their workers a living wage. Living in LA, I am accustomed to service charges, but not 18%. As I write this, the more outraged I get. When your prices are already so much higher, I don’t think it’s the customers responsibility to pay your worker. The restaurant is more than capable. I wonder if the 18% has something to do with the Brentwood location. Now, the food was delicious and the service was too. I am very torn about coming back.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Italian with LA Vibes
My dinner at Jon & Vinny's was the best during my trip to LA. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, wish I could try it all! It definitely is sceney, had very LA vibes. Know that you have to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance, even for during the week. The peach burrata, which the waiter recommended because it was in season, was amazing. I then had the polenta Bolognese which was delicious, ate every bite. I was too full for a full dessert but wanted something so had the pistachio wedding cookies which were so light & melted in my mouth. The service charge/tip thing is indeed a bit confusing, if the food wasn't amazing it would've bothered me more.
Be the first to ReplyBeware the service charge policy
We had dinner last night. Food was good, although I don’t think it lived up to the hype. It’s a good pizza restaurant, without being a great one. Meal came to about $200 for a family of 4 which is expensive considering what we ate - but again no particular complaints here. When we settled our cheque I was surprised to see that the restaurant added the standard 18% service charge. But then made clear this should not be viewed as a tip for your waiter/waitress, but rather something that would be used to cover the cost of all of the restaurant staff working in the kitchen, on reception etc etc. You are encouraged to tip your waiter / waitress directly. I’m sorry but that is just not how it works - why should restaurant guests be expected to cover a restaurant’s staffing costs? If you charge $200 for 4 pizzas and a few sides, then you can afford to pay your staff. Then leave your guests to tip the waiting staff directly. That’s standard practice in all restaurants around the world for a reason.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service and average food
Although the server tried hard the service was terrible. Plates coming at different times and often wrong. My daughter waited until we all finished before hers arrived. The food itself isn’t worth the hype. Sauces were overly heavy over seasoned and pasta soggy. And to add insult to injury there is a crazy service charge to which you are told to add a tip as apparently the service charge is to pay the staff properly. And it’s not a gratuity. Ludicrous. Would not return
Be the first to ReplySome of the best pasta I’ve ever had. FYI beware to not order too much
Everything was EXCEPTIONAL! Susie was extremely friendly and personable. Pizza was great. Red wines by the glass were unique. The ravioli were perhaps the best I’ve ever had, and my grand mother and parents are Italian I’ve never had a ravioli with such thin dough, that stuck together so well when filled with ricotta like that, very special care and skill! Cavatelli were also lovely! My only issue was the suggested order portions. We were suggested to share an appetizer, a pizza and two pastas. We did just that, minus the appetizer, and it was still SO MUCH FOOD. Too much. It was all delicious, but at the end of the meal I couldn’t enjoy it as much as if I had ordered only an app and a pasta. I don’t know if management tells staff to up sell item count, but all it does is backfire when the customer leaves feeling uncomfortable because they are too much. It’s a little loud and the music is 98% rap/hip hop. If you don’t think you’ll like that, you can eat outside. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyAdds 18% fee and it’s not for tip
I don’t like eating dinner, paying expensive (but fair) prices and then finding out when I get the bill the restaurant adds an 18% fee on top of their menu prices and explicitly states the 18% goes to the restaurant not the servers and is not considered as part of the tip. Honestly, why would servers work for this place. They must get railroaded on the tip all the time when the restaurant is using a bait n switch on their menu prices like this. Will avoid this restaurant at all costs in the future. Dishonest prices on the menu and obviously poor treatment of the front house staff.
Be the first to ReplyA SMALL LOCAL ITALIAN MAYBE WORTH THE HASSLE
We had researched online for our visit in West Hollywood and decided to check this local Italian restaurant primarily due to the menu selection and review by CN Traveler online. Only until we arrived did we know what the challenges would be to first park our car and then hope for a decent, safe table. It's a small place with limited seating and tight quarters; not the ideal setup for a covid restrictive environment. Still, it seemed worth the risk if we got in early dinner, which we did. Be prepared to give extra time for finding a parking location nearby. We finally did end up parking along a neighborhood street which appeared relatively safe.
When we walked down the sidewalk to the front entrance, we noticed that in front of the restaurant was what we thought was some sort of construction blocking store front parking. In fact, it was their outdoor seating arrangement. We chose to sit inside. The tables were close together. Still, staff did their best to follow protocols at the time.
Jon & Vinny's is known for their "spicy fusilli" but I chose the Kids Pomodoro. For the life of me, I can't think of why I did that. The pomodoro was very good though. I also had the heirloom tomato salad with shaved parmigiano which was also good. My wife had the Apple Salad with persimmons. She really enjoyed that, along with a spiraled zucchini side.
All the food items were very good. I think we were just a little nervous about the smallness of the space under the circumstances. When restrictions are more lifted, we may return for another visit.
By the way, inside the restaurant is a separate tiny wine shop. I took the opportunity to check it out. Of course, they sell wines that they also have offered in the restaurant. I can't say I was overly impressed with the selection though or the prices. The photos on their website give the impression that the wine shop is bigger than it really is.
Terrible Food and Horrible Service
Don’t recommend eating here. It was the worst restaurant of our trip. The food was swimming in oil and very ordinary otherwise. Pasta was as if it was from the kid’s menu. And the bill came out to be the same as what we paid at The Four Season.
Service was even worse. It was as if she was doing us a favor by taking our order and bringing our food. Ungrateful with a side of attitude.
There are plenty of other amazing restaurants in the area. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.
Great Pizza
You can eat in or outside or get a take away. Eating out is great as there are large heaters for cool evenings. The food is delicious and served speedily there is an extensive wine list or you can play corkage.
The staff are friendly, welcoming and really helpful.
Popular Italian spot
Popular Italian spot with takeout options. For this latest visit, we got takeout for a group of 5. The person who took the order tried telling us we needed 3 of each dish, which was overkill. We ended up 3 pizzas, 2 sets of meatballs, 2 sets of 3 different kinds of pizza, and 2 sets of burrata, and we had enough food leftover for a birthday party with 9 girls (though to be fair, we also got Kazu Nori for that birthday). In short, don’t feel obligated to over-order; even though portions appear smaller, the food is dense. You’ll be veeeeery full after a meal of Jon and Vinny’s.
The spicy fussili was good when I had it at the Brentwood location, but it didn’t taste as spicy from this location. The white pizza is my favorite one; the crust is Neapolitan-style and the pizzas were cut in 6 slices, so it’s good for sharing. The meatballs are huge and come with grilled bread on the side. The burrata was standard. The food descriptions are pretty clear and there are vegetarian options available. Credit cards accepted. They do take reservations online for dine-in.
Great pasta and pizza
We made reservation and had a wonderful Sunday lunch. It started with a delightful avocado toast and a refreshing, excellently seasoned crisp gem lettuce salad. Both the house made spaghetti in a tasty heirloom tomato sauce, and the spicy fusilli with delicious basil vodka sauce were superb! The two thin-crusted pizzas that followed (Sarah super shroom, and creamy cheesy white lighting) were also fantastic. Our outdoor seating in one of the curbside wood cabanas that lined the sidewalk outside the restaurant was spacious, ideal for privacy and social distancing. James, our server, took very good care of us. Finding street parking was not too challenging on a Sunday.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, but the service makes you leave feeling unvalued and forgotten.
Great food, but the service makes you leave feeling unvalued and forgotten.
Initial ordering + sit down went smoothly, but after that the server completely ignored / forgot about us.
Food continued to be delivered as our order was fulfilled but nobody asked about food quality, and they only delivered the first round of our multiple round wine flight.
Was disappointing that we were forgotten and weren’t able to pair all of the great wine that is on offer with the amazing food.
In the end we were comp’d for our non-arriving wine flights. It was appreciated but didn’t quite cover the less missed opportunity for great wine pairing and such amazing food.
Best Pizza in LA
The best pizza in Los Angeles. Hands down. Order Little Nats, Ceasar Salad, mozzarella sticks, and the spicy fizuli.

Another star in the J and V empire, it offers consistently excellent home style Italian food. Exactly what we need in these times. I love their pizzas, including the delicious white ones, and the spaghetti bolognese and spicy fusilli are simply superb.
