Sad to say goodbye
This spot has always fed me and entertained me for a few great years now, and this is their final year. Way to go out with a nod to perfection. I tend to get the cheap $7 cucumber melon martinis on Monday, otherwise something lychee works. The robotoyaki are fun ways to test a myriad tastes from the kitchen. The branzino, the shishito peppers, the pork belly, the duck, and the shittake mushroom were all a hit with me. I have always loved the miso soup, and it remained a win. Knowing it was now or never for the kitchen, my friend added some gorgeous sashimi, and I needed Wagyu beef fried rice. The rice was presented tableside, where the egg cooked as it was folded. It was like being in a street fair with happy dance music, and every bite or sip just made you want more. This is the most bittersweet review I’ve ever written. Perfect service from Michael, who treated our meal as if it was any other fun night, not a countdown to a fin de siecle. Perfect service times, mixology from bar, and I cannot overstate how much fun this delicious food was. Cheers for what you did. I will follow your next venture wherever you land. Thank you for brightening my last several Decembers

We were pleasantly Surprised! The atmosphere is fun and relaxing at the same time~ the staff was great and the food is amazing.. we tasted a lot, from the skewers to Sushi rolls everything was delicious. My personal favorites were the grilled octopus, the Maui taco sliders and the duck scrapple bun. And not to forget the Dessert - it’s an ice Cream rice crispy Roll. Absolutely delicious- I highly suggest checking this spot out soon

Our very favorite restaurant in the Borgata. Love the ambiance. Food is consistently delicious! We've never varied our menu choices, but since we planned to dine there two days in a row, we were hoping for something different. Huge shout-out to our server, Sal, who besides being friendly and attentive, happens to have a remarkably intuitive sense of his guests tastes! Based on our previous night's dinner choices, Sal suggested an entirely different menu for our second visit. He had already impressed us by greeting us by name and remembering our cocktail preference, so we decided to trust his suggestions. So glad we did! We savored every new taste and are grateful that he helped us to expand our 'Izakaya' palate! We've always had a pleasant experience in Izakaya, but Sal's service went above and beyond! (Additional shout-out to hostess Nikki for her warm greeting, and for easily accommodating our request to sit with Sal.)
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, Underwhelming
My wife and I recently visited Izakaya for the first time to celebrate a birthday with a large group of family and friends. We were not impressed. Seeking to create a trendy, youthful vibe, the restaurant is exceedingly dark and quite noisy, as conversations are forced to compete with loud ambient music. The staff was friendly but not particularly attentive; there was no sense of personal service and we felt forgotten at various times during our meal. We sampled much of the menu, and there were some standouts. The Beef Short Rib special and Wagyu Beef sliders were a hit with everyone at our table. But all of the sushi and sushi rolls were ordinary, with ungenerous portions of bland-tasting fish in lackluster preparations and unimaginative presentations. This might not bother the kind of diners who patronize strip mall sushi buffets, but it is hardly acceptable when you're paying two to three times what you'd pay at any decent sushi restaurant. One obviously expects to pay more in a casino/resort setting--and I don't mind doing so if the food is top notch--but here price far exceeds quality. There are many great Japanese restaurants in and around Atlantic City; I'm sorry to report that this isn't one of them.

Be the first to ReplyGet the yummy skewers!
My friend and I dined here and it was probably the best meal we had while at the Borgata. Highly recommend the Korean BBQ skewers and the sushi. The Brussels sprouts were tasty as well. Good lychee martini.

The waiter named Jeffrey is very condescending and rude. He Shouldn’t be working in customer service unless you enjoy being insulted. Not to mention that most of the food, especially the seafood, had a weird smell and flavor. In my many years I’ve eaten a lot of restaurants and would not recommend this one. Please stay away unless you want to be very very unhappy!!!
Be the first to ReplyWORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!
If you go to this place please make sure you don’t get JEFFREY as your server. He is very RUDE and disrespectful. We ordered two Litchi Martinis and unfortunately they were way too strong and no flavor at all. We told the server that we didn’t like the drinks and apologized for it and this guy rolled his eyes and walked away. He didn’t ask what was wrong with the drinks or asked if we wanted a different drink. After that, he didn’t come back to our table anymore. Fortunately, the manager come to our table to apologized and gave us a delicious dessert to make up for this terrible experience. Please run away if you get JEFFREY as your server!!!!
Be the first to ReplyTHE WORST EXPERIENCE
THE WORST EXPERIENCE We had a 6:30 reservation for 4 on Saturday evening. We were looking forward to eating there, we arrived promptly and ordered our food. The table we were seated at had a broken leg and kept rocking, spilling our drinks. We asked to be moved to an available table for 4 which was near ours. The staff tried but was unable to fix our table. The manager, Matt, said the other table was reserved for an 8:30 seating...1-1/2 hours later! Matt was unprofessional and ignored a simple solution. Rather than help the situation, we argued and then he asked us to leave. I have never, ever been treated like this. STAY AWAY there are better options where the management actually cares

My wife and our 2 guests enjoy Japanese food and were so looking forward to our first visit to Izakaya . The only thing we enjoyed was the Sake as the small pieces of Sashimi, poor service ,mediocre decor made it not an enjoyable experience. If you go, make sure to take a magnifying glass to see your sashimi .
Be the first to ReplyWhy so dark? Great food and service regardless
Food was excellent, service was excellent. The only issue is that the restaurant is so dark you can’t read the menu. Everyone says it too dark. Guests use a flashlight to see the menu. Servers also say it’s too dark. So why does the restaurant keep it so dark?
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and ambiance
My family and I just left the Borgata after a quick getaway to AC. I read excellent reviews about Izakaya and we went here for a Father’s Day dinner. We were greeted and quickly seated in a comfy booth. We had 5:15 reservations and there were only a few other folks in the restaurant. A gentleman immediately came over and poured water for us - he was very attentive throughout our time there. Our server Dan was friendly and prompt. As the reviews expressed, the soup dumplings were tasty. We also tried the crispy rock shrimp. Also very tasty. Other dishes we tried were the salmon sushi, robotayaki chicken and soy ginger salmon. Their portions are small and their prices are a tad high for the serving size. The shrimp fried rice was quite bland too. I didn’t enjoy it enough to return but because I enjoyed the environment, service, and a few of the menu items, I’m giving it a good rating.
Be the first to ReplyI’m a tough critic and this was EXCELLENT… a “must do”!
Every aspect of our dinner was EXCELLENT from the service to drinks to dessert. Michael was our server and I would request him again 100%. He was friendly, super attentive, and knowledgeable. His drink recommendations were spot on! I had the Lychee martini. It was not too sweet and just perfect. We opted for the tasting menu. Every bite was delicious. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the courses came out too fast. I prefer a slower dining experience but I understand not everyone feels that way. We asked Michael to slow it down and he was more than happy to accommodate our request. I am a really tough critic (especially at this price point). With all the dining options in Atlantic City I would consider this a “must do”.
Be the first to ReplyAlways a great time! Maybe choose your greeters more carefully.
Food is great and waiter service matched the great food. Front desk lady needs a new job or was having a bad day cause she looked upset being there and seated us without saying enjoy. We were thinking of asking for a different spot, but she was gone before we could turn around. I made sure she hear me say “not that she cares”. Nonetheless, we always enjoy our time there. Everything is delicious. One thing I don’t like is people were having dinner with tank tops and flip flops. This isn’t a beach casual place to eat. It’s inside a casino. Put on a shirt with sleeves and some shoes. I was wearing jeans and a golf shirt and felt like I was over dressed. The restaurant should be a little more strict on dress code. At least Shorts and a shirt and sneakers. Grown man wearing a tank top and flip flops in a dark ambience setting is terrible.
Be the first to Reply5/5 Facility, 6/5 Service, 5/5 Food and Drink
The lone bright spot in an otherwise very mediocre trip to The Borgata/Water Club. Our server Mike was excellent and his service was superlative, especially compared to the service we had at other parts of the resort (Looking at you Borgata Beer Garden) The drinks were excellent and the fixed price menu Mike suggested for us was absolutely delicious and hit almost all of the items we would have wanted to try anyway. It was the perfect amount of food. Can’t wait to come back.

Izakaya is great spot for a party of any size. The Japanese style "tapas" menu lets everyone try whatever they're craving that night. As a whiskey drinker I like the collection of high end Japanese whiskey offerings across different price ranges. 5/5 rating for this place - my only complaint is that they tend to run out of products/food pretty frequently.
