Our 6th hotel for our 25th anniversary trip brought us all the way down (after 6 hrs in our rental car) to the Amalfi Coast and the legendary Il San Pietro di Positano. What an incredible two nights they were. I almost considered adding a night — at least until we actually went into Positano. Our verdict: looking onto Positano is vastly preferable to being in Positano. But ISP made it all worth it. Our Prestige Room essentially was a very spacious junior suite with some of the most incredible views we’ve ever enjoyed, looking onto the nearby beautiful village of Praiano. I’m rarely at a loss for words, but those views on entering the room the first time left me speechless. The decor is quirky but largely comfortable, and it’s most certainly unique. We absolutely loved everything about Il San Pietro. The room and views. The sunken tub and shower and views. The views from everywhere else. The amenities. The air con. The absolute ease of service. The ubiquitous warmth of the staff. The 1* Zass restaurant for dinner and breakfast — and even room service — was absolutely divine. The lobby bar staff. The beach club and restaurant. Did we mention the views? The only thing we didn’t like was the actual town of Positano, itself. Way too crowded. Way too touristy. Way too frenetic. Way too hot and humid the morning we visited. Not for us. But at least we finally found some shorts after our rental car break in and luggage stolen during lunch at Osteria Francescana in Modena. The hotel’s free shuttle made it very easy to get in and get out of town, at least — because the traffic otherwise was horrendous. Il San Pietro di Positano is an incredible seaside retreat. It’s legit. We’d go back in a second — and never think twice about never going back into Positano. I’m absolutely ecstatic that I chose ISP over Le Sirenuse. This and the Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como were our favorite stays of the trip. Even as I didn’t like Positano! Don’t think. Just go.
