It's a little bit hard to get to but once you are there it
It's a little bit hard to get to but once you are there it is worth the wait. The service is great and the property is beautiful. Just a short drive to Cortona and the parking is free. The roomWe had was absolutely beautiful with an incredible view of the pool and valley. Our first night there we arrived late and went to the bar for a drink and had a meat and cheese platter which was terrific. The breakfast is fabulous and although the dinner was not the best it was still very good. This is a place I would definitely go back to.
Be the first to ReplyA few friends and I stayed at Relais Il Falconiere for one
A few friends and I stayed at Relais Il Falconiere for one night when we were visiting Tuscany. Overall, it's a very picturesque hotel with charming rooms. We stay at a fair number of Relais & Chateaux properties, and are part of their loyalty program for which you receive many benefits such as upgraded rooms and spa and beverage credits and some wine. Also, if you book through the free travel program called Virtuoso, that comes with the same benefits. It just made the stay that much better. Because we booked very last minute, we had the final two rooms available. They had great views over the mountain, and it felt like you were staying in an upgraded castle. While this is a very modern hotel with modern furnishings and amenities, it was very charming while still staying true to the original architecture and functions of the room.Service was friendly and accommodating. I was able to book a spa appointment for the next day, which was great. Because this hotel is nestled on the top of the mountain, it's almost like its own little village with a restaurant and spa and pool and residences. I really enjoyed that facet to Relais Il Falconiere. Breakfast was included in our rate, and it was delicious. It's served in the main restaurant, with gorgeous views over the valley below.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it for upscale luxury if you want to visit Cortona or some of the wine regions in Tuscany.
Be the first to ReplyWhat can be said about this spot.
..Well, perhaps the best way to describe the experience is alike to previously common Facebook status, "It's Complicated." The road leading up to the property is far from amazing, so if driving a Lambo or a Ferrari, it will be a disaster to put simply to get through the bumps. Obviously, not everyone drives expensive cars to come here, but as a Michelin starred spot and a Relais Chateaux hotel, it would be thoughtful to accommodate arrival a bit better at the top of the line price point. The interior design is a greenhouse meeting a Modani furniture store, which creates a rather confusing design. It cannot be said as terrible, but it's far from beautiful in the evening, although perhaps the views during daytime hours make it a bit better. Even the restroom is sized for a hamster trying to close the door. Platters and silverware are very average. When it comes to food, Il Falconiere offers four tasting menus. There is a requirement that all guests at the table get the same menu or order A La Carte. Again, a very odd requirement, because it almost defeats the point of having so many tasting menus to begin with, requiring guests with varying tastes to either sacrifice or go for a diminished a La carte experience. The "White Giant" or Chianina menu highlighting local Tuscan cattle was my selection. An excellent carpaccio, followed by ox tongue, vermicelli, stuffed pappardella, sirloin and tiramisu dessert. The menu was half wonderful, half disappointing, with ox tongue being too tough, sirloin being low on flavor and tough, and tiramisu being a complete disappointment. Carpaccio, pappardele and vermicelli were great. Desserts all around across the menu left much to the desired, with half being dominated by simple puddings. But, Michelin starred restaurants are intended to embrace experimentation, so that is not the reason I give Il Falconiere such a low rating. The sommelier was a very unpleasant man, borderline rude. Not only was he not friendly, but did not take feedback well and even refused to change a wine glass for a different shape one. Wine tasting menu, besides being well aligned to dishes, was filled with cheap wines relative to the price paid. He was also overly sensitive about us taking a picture of the wine and asking not to do so. Overall, just a disaster. Some of the waiters were quite unpleasant and inattentive also.Overall, Il Falconiere is far from being deserving of even a single Michelin star and even without it, would not make my list of recommendations. Poor design, bad service and many misses on dishes, especially desserts can be cited as the main reasons.

Charming setting overlooking the valley and the vineyards and a gorgeous room. Waiters were all pleasant and nice. Very subtle flavors with the dishes (could've had a lot more flavor), we had the fixed price summer menu, not a meal that stood out. The pig portion was very good though.
Be the first to ReplyThe menu reads like a study in creative writing.
The over the top descriptions and exotic food pairings sound terrific, the final product tells a different story. The setting is fantastic, set in a giant glass room with beautiful views of the valley below. But that's where it ends. The diner is given a choice of 4 tasting menus all in the $140 Euro price range. Wine parings are available at $65 Euros additionally. There is also a bottled water menu. Please. I found the service to be snotty and annoying ( we had a bus boy try to sell us a 2 nd bottle of water 3 times). The food quality was erratic with some courses spot on while others were overcooked or cold. I honestly don't know how they go a Michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyWe stayed at the hotel here, and while I typically don't
We stayed at the hotel here, and while I typically don't like doing hotel dinners in Tuscany, we were excited for the food here, since that's what they're known for, and they have a Michelin star to back it up. I think the food mostly lived up to that hype -- we really liked just about everything we got, and loved certain things. We got the beef tartare, lampredotto, spicy spaghetti, pici, the fluffy frittata, cheeses, and the cioccomirtillo for dessert. The pastas were our favorites of the night (especially the green olive pesto with the spaghetti), and the only thing we really weren't crazy about was the frittata.Overall, very good food for a high price that I think is somewhat justified, but also somewhat hard to swallow when there are so many great restaurants for much cheaper in this part of the world.
Be the first to ReplyStunning.
Amazing. Beautiful meet the chef she was stunning. From start to end this was spectacular. A family ran business with all the comforts of home and then some .. thank you Tuscany.
Be the first to ReplyDining here was the highlight of our trip through Tuscany.
The grounds are gorgeous and the staff exceptionally helpful. We were able to meet the owner Silvia who was kind enough to take the time to share her hawk and love of falconry. There are wonderful details throughout the restaurant and spa - trompe l'oeil painting, flower arrangements, and the wine library. They also offer cooking classes throughout the year. Now for the food! Il Falconiere is a Michelin star rated restaurant. You won't be disappointed. We made our way through several courses - bread, amuse bouche, appetizers, entrees, a special dessert birthday cake for our new friend, and a chilled glass of vin santo, and finally espresso. Everything was fantastic. A truly delicious and unexpected 3-hour lunch.
Be the first to ReplyGreat hotel for relaxing.
We spent one of our days here getting massages and enjoying the pools. It was a really nice break from all the touring. Cortona is a challenging 45 minute uphill hike from the location.
Be the first to ReplySo beyond lovely.
I can't say enough good things about this hotel and restaurant. It is pricey but excellent good, service, atmosphere and views. Try to sit outside in the courtyard for a wonderful dinner with outstanding views. I loved the lamb personally but everything I tried was great. Only complaint I heard was that the duck was slightly too sweet- that being said, some people would prefer a sweet sauced duck! Love it here.
Be the first to ReplyMy partner and I and two other couples went to Il
My partner and I and two other couples went to Il Falconiere for dinner to cap off our stay in Cortona, and while the location is absolutely superb, the food disappoints. I say that not because the food is "bad"...but considering the prices (around 30+ euros a dish) and its status as a Michelin one-star, the food did not inspire or impress me like other Michelin restaurants have done in the past.We started with a drink on the terrace as the sun was setting, which was very nice. The Bellini I had was not very high caliber to my taste buds, but the other people in my group liked their drinks. We were escorted to our table outside for seating, and the restaurant was practically empty. The location and view is honestly amazing! We were seated at dusk, and we could see as far as Montepulciano to the west. Il Falconiere is not as high as Cortona, but the seating area is still high enough to feel like you have an amazing view. The service was, if I had to use one word, haphazard. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it was lacking. The main maitre d' (a very tall guy) was running around furiously all the time. OK, but there were only 4 tables seated, what was he doing, because he clearly wasn't paying attention to our table? When I had questions about the view or the food or a dish, it was very hard to get his attention. At a one-star (which this restaurant HEAVILY advertizes online, so I will happily judge it by that sriteria), that should not be the case, plain and simple. When one of us would get up to go to the bathroom, servers would just walk right past and not fold napkins. Once, one of the waiters picked up the napkin from the chair between his two fingers and then put it crumpled back on the table and walked away. What is that? And the wait staff seemingly did not know how to pour water without spilling or clanking against everything on the table - that just showed a lack of training and finesse. And when I asked one of the servers how to eat the amuse bouche orzo dish (since three of us instinctively ate it with our forks, and the other three with our spoons), he seemed confused and muttered something because I don't think he understood the question. That's fine, I don't expect someone to speak English automatically...but then call over our main server who did.The food was "fine." It was very expensive, but I am not necessarily griping about that because I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. The tasting menu I had consisted of 5 dishes and was 90 euros, which is not outrageous in this type of establishment. However, Il Falconiere did not deliver on its assumed promise to serve me excellent cuisine. I took 3 pictures of the food, and of those three, two were good/average, and one was bad. The rabbit hamburger looked pretty, but it was probably one of the worst-conceived dishes I've ever had at a Michelin restaurant. There were just random (naturally bitter) truffles with raw red pepper and then sauces...huh? And the portion size of the rabbit (which was actually very good) was too small to justify the rest of the ingredients on the plate. Overall, the food was only average. I was expecting a lot betterHonestly, I don't think I would recommend Il Falconiere. This is Italy, and great restaurants are everywhere, so I don't think that their sky-high prices justify what they serve. The main selling point is the view, but other restaurants have that amazing view from Cortona as well! And one final note, the bathrooms are very small, and all the girls at the table complained about that.
