BE A GUEST OF PRINCE RAINIER...This wonderful hotel, owned and operated by Société des Bains de Mer which is in turn mainly owned by Prince Rainier is exceptional and a MUST VISIT. The iconic Hotel de Paris has become one of the best city hotels in the world... I am at a loss to recall any city hotel which betters this extraordinary. Some, the best of the best, such as The Lanesborough in London equals the exceptional standards and sheer quality of this hotel however in my decades of staying at many of the top city hotels in the world, such overall quality, attention to detail and wonderful management is close to unsurpassable. Stepping into the Hotel de Paris’s revolving door spins with glee is to be ushered you into a world of sheer happiness. Elegance reigns supreme, the entire ambience and theatre of this hotel seems to whisper tales of a bygone era when manners were the ultimate fashion statement. The receptionists stand ready, not just to assist, but to whisk you away on a journey of indulgence and relaxation. It is not uncommon to spot A-listers at top hotels, especially in the spas and gyms. This hotel has got to be on a similar level to the Beverly Hills Hotel which I love to visit even when Seinfeld isn’t seated at the next table. It's not just a place to pamper yourself. The spa is a sanctuary of glitz and glam, frequented by the who's who of celebritydom. Checking in to Hotel de Paris is to check-in to a world where everything feels right again. Why Hotel de Paris is attached to ‘Leading Hotels of the World’ for marketing/sales is beyond me. I have stayed at numerous Leading Hotels of the World which are absolutely terrible…especially in Antigua. Many of these hotels are nowhere near best in class… they benefit through having a few great hotels such as Hotel de Paris within their midst. We are staying at Le Meurice In Paris next week (not a Leading Hotel) and then the following month we check in at Hotel Du Cap Antibes (also not a Leading Hotel) however we chose them as we expect them to be fantastic, not because of an organisation that gives the impression that all of their listed hotels are wonderful, which they most certainly are not. We hope to experience Hotel de Paris standards and if so my cup of joy will overflow as that will be four in a row. The total refurbishment which has been completed was clearly no expense spared and handled with impeccable taste. To become a truly great hotel, the location has to be special (which it certainly is). It helps to have an exceptional history which is certainly the case. No hotel can be truly great without the most exceptional senior management overseeing the heads of every department and truly wonderful ladies and gentlemen operating throughout and striving (and achieving) perfection. Not only should the hotel be beautiful inside and out but also supremely comfortable irrespective of type of accommodation, from entry-level room to a top suite. Every aspect of being in residence must make for a supremely relaxing and exceptionally comfortable stay. The level of service must be at the very top of the scale. There needs to be a choice of exceptional dining options apart from top level room service. The hotel itself must be able to provide guaranteed privacy if required as well as efficient, inobtrusive security. The quality of service should be immediately apparent on arrival and at check-in. HOTEL DE PARIS delivers it all... with tremendous style and panache. We love the Michelin starred ‘Le Grill” on the top floor and my entire family would also have dined at the legendary Alain Ducasse three Michelin star restaurant which unfortunately was not open during our stay. Even the breakfasts were way ahead of the high end curve… served up at Le Grill restaurant on the 8th floor complete the perfect morning Monte Carlo views. Le Bar Américain is stunning, service throughout the day is excellent, with a lovely menu. It is also the perfect bar to visit pre-or post-dinner. Even the musicians and female vocalist exuded class and talent. This is a hotel to be admired and which delivers real Value. While it is expensive to stay here, the value if in the delivery. We felt special, cosseted and at home from the moment our driver pulled up at the side of the main entrance. Following the most tasteful and highest of quality refurbishments, taking four years, Hotel de Paris appears to have achieved hotel perfection. When the only minor criticism I could make is of the quality of the dressing gowns (which I am sure, once alerted, they will jump on), the list of noticeable attention to detail which is extraordinary in its scope, would fill too may pages. I have been visiting Monte Carlo from time to time since 1976, staying at various hotels, most recently the Metroropole which is another fine luxury hotel albeit entirely different to the iconic Hotel de Paris. An old friend of mine went to school with Albert, Prince Rainier and told me that he is a great guy. I don't know if he reads reviews (I somehow doubt it) but just in case... congratulations Albert... your favourite MC hotel really is one of the best. During our last breakfast I was delighted by the personal touch of Mr. Olivier Thomas, the 'Directeur General' of Hotel de Paris who introduced himself and asked how we had enjoyed our stay. I explained that we loved everything about his hotel but that we missed the opportunity to dine at Alain Ducasse (3 Michelin star) restaurant (temporarily closed during our stay). Even so, our family dinner at the roof-top Le Grill restaurant was elevated by the impeccable service of Mr Balland Yawn, a maître d' par excellence. Balland reminded me of some of the top maître d's that I have been privileged to get to know well at Michelin star restaurants over the decades. While he has some way to go to reach the level of legends such as Diego Masciaga (who spent 30 years as restaurant director of 3 Michelin star Waterside Inn), or Mr. Herve Duronzier who was maitre 'd at my all-time favourite (and sadly long since closed) restaurant in the entire world (Alain Chapel in Mionnay), he is certainly top class when it comes to one Michelin star restaurants...Balland totally made our evening and probably everyone else's who was dining that evening. He was special…as was the head chef and the entire kitchen brigade. Looking ahead to future visits to Paris and Monte Carlo, I am eager to explore the culinary recommendations kindly provided to me by Mr Thomas and indulge in the gastronomic delights of Hotel de Paris once more. If I was compiling a list of the world's top hotels which I had actually experienced, Hotel de Paris would unquestionably earn a place at the summit, a testament to exceptional management, investment by owners and unwavering commitment to excellence. Next visit, I will be sure to check that 3 Michelin star Restaurant Alain Ducasse is open at the hotel. As I eagerly anticipate returning in the summer of 2025, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire team at Hotel de Paris, especially Olivier Thomas, for a truly unforgettable experience.
