Great quality
Dinner for 4 with minimum waiting time (they do not accept reservations). Very fresh oysters from 5 different origins. I had an exceptional fish soup especially for the quality of the fish (mussels, clams, prawns, local fish fillet) and for the correct cooking. The grilled local fish fillet was also very good. Adequate wine list. Adequate price and in line with the quality of the fish and the location. Customers well looked after and supported. It is recommended.

On every trip to San Francisco, I invariably wind up at the Ferry Marketplace. I love the dining options there. I don’t always go to the same restaurant, and I had never tried Hog Island. Superior bread, oysters, wine, beer, and seafood combine to make this place a smorgasbord for even the most discerning palate. It served as a perfect starting point for our trip.

Had a hankering for some seafood and glad we came here. Oysters are $4 each which is about average for SF/non happy-hour. Canned beer and house wines are $8/14. The black cod was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We'll be back!

Yes, it's touristy, but also delicious, with great views and friendly staff. Go early to beat the line. We enjoyed an outdoor seat which was lovely.

Spectacular!!!! It is a place with a nice view of the bay, casual but not informal. Be sure to try any variety of their oysters (the most delicious I've ever tried) and I recommend the clam chowder, full of clams and with a very special touch. Overall a must visit place
Be the first to ReplyAwesome fresh seafood
Although a bit on the pricer side (they know they're an IT place to dine) but have to say it was one of the better meals I've had. The Halibut Crudo small plate was so good we had to quickly order another one before the main course came. So fresh So good! You can quickly tell this is a place go to as most of the other restaurants around would have loved to have even half the the business Hog Island had at that time.

The star of the show, of course, are the oysters. They offer a wide variety, each sourced from different regions of Tomales Bay, allowing you to explore the subtle differences in flavor and texture. I particularly enjoyed the Sweetwater Farms selection, with their delicate brininess and clean finish. They offer a half-dozen and dozen sampler option, which is a great way to try a variety of oysters. Service can be a bit slow, especially during peak hours, but the wait is worth it for the fresh seafood. The price point is on the higher side compared to other casual seafood restaurants. The Ferry Building location offers a lively and communal atmosphere. The open layout allows you to take in the bustling energy of the market while enjoying your meal. If you're looking for a casual and fun seafood experience with fresh, high-quality ingredients, Hog Island Oyster Co. is a great choice.
Be the first to ReplyA great Saturday in San Francisco
I began my Oyster eating career at an early age in Panama City, Florida - Hunts Oyster Bar - in College they shucked in front of you - you ate till full and then they counted shells - 65cents a dozen - 15 cents for a coke - 20 cent tip for the shucker - what more could a college student want? I have since eaten oysters in Louisiana- Mississippi- Texas- Seattle- Georgia- South Carolina - Long Island New York - New York City - even in Montenegro and Croatia ( which were really good sea salty oyster’s) - But today I was introduced to Hog Island Oyster Company in San Francisco- one of the best I have ever been - while I waited a short wait in line to get in - it was definitely worth the wait - service was fast and personable ( my waiter was Johnny) I had a great wine - 3 glasses- 2 dozen oysters- the Abalone ceviche - a fried oyster po boy - and for dessert a Hog Island Old Fashioned - a great day over looking the Bay-

Awesome dinner. My recommendations are clam chowder, mussels, rustic seafood stew and dungeon crab. Drink an oyster shot and some Marshall Margarita. Thanks to Bolivar 👍🏻

Great Oysters! Loved the Bourbon and chipotle sauce! Salad was great and unexpected! We had a starter between us but we came for the Oysters! Perfection!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, atmosphere and service with Saul!
Amazing food and the most amazing service from Saul! He have great suggestions for what to order and was incredibly friendly. He took the time to visit with us even though it was busy. He never made us feel rushed. It was probably our best meal and best service during our 3 day stay in San Fran before heading to Napa! I highly recommend getting a table with Saul!!!

This was my 5th time at this restaurant. Great fresh and baked Oysters., steamers and the grilled Sardines. Waiter was knowledgeable about the wine and pointed us I the right direction. Lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by on the bay. A must.

Outstanding Oysters in butter, bourbon and hint of chipotle ! Great setting on the bay but expect ‘rustic’ …wooden tables, bench seats, set just off from the main processing area for this business where you can also buy Oysters of many different varieties ‘to go’! Great service from a very friendly and knowledgeable server! We also selected a shrimp and salad started…shrimp were very tasty and the side salad generous. If you are happy to drive the distance it’s well worth the ride from the Bay Area but reservations are highly recommended! Bring a jacket…it’s on the water and can be chilly!

My wife and I walked to the Ferry Building on a beautiful day in San Francisco. After exploring the Ferry Building we stopped for lunch at the Hog Island Oyster Company. We ordered the clam chowder. This was the best clam chowder I have eaten. It was filled with whole clams, potatoes and vegetables in a rich and savory broth. We then shared the mussels in a broth of wine, mustard and vegetables and a side of fries. The portion was large and delicious. Hog Island has indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar and water views. Definitely give them a try.

Super fresh oysters from West Coast, BC, and The East Coast (Massachusetts). We had an excellent time. The seafood stew was also delicious with super tasty broth and fresh muscles, clams, shrimp, and fish. The halibut was decent too but I wouldn’t order it again as it was a little bland compared to the other dishes by comparison, but it was super fresh and great by halibut standards. Also, the bartenders spilled over from the Slanted Door’s bar team next door, which is temporarily closed, and were on point - Joaquin was awesome and made up a drink with sesame oil that sounded weird but tasted amazing. All in all a great birthday meal and excellent atmosphere!
Be the first to ReplyA Must Visit if You Love Fresh Oysters
Fresh oysters as good as you can get. We have been twice in most recent visit to S.F. Never bother to look at the rest of the menu as we went straight for 2 dozen oysters. Yes, there will always a long waiting line but usually moves pretty fast. It is definitely worth the wait.
Be the first to ReplyLove our lunches many times here!
We live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge but meet friends here at the Saturday Farmers Market which has many great vendors! It's popular and crowded especially on nice sunny days and tourist season. Our college grad son loves the clam chowder and we and my girlfriends love the oysters. I love the mussels and happy we can have our small dog who sits under outside table . Keep in mind, the menu changes depending we believe on availability of the seafood and prices may reflect that. Our service has always been great and they. do a very good job accommodating a long line of people which moves fairly quickly depending if you want indoor or outdoor seating.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as expected
We waited in the line prior to opening and were set at the oyster bar. Had the cooked oysters to start and they were ok. My husband had the clam chowder because there was such glowing reviews. He felt it was watery and the clams in the shell made it more work with no added flavor. He felt there were a lot more places with better clam chowder especially when it was $18.00 a bowl. I had the seafood stew. It was good tasting and more vinegar tasting than I expected. It came with a slice of sourdough bread that was burnt. The stew was $32.00. We bought extra bread and buttor for our lunch. Would have liked a diet coke or pepsi, but not available. For lunch, this was an expensive meal. The view was great. I don't think we will be back.

Great food! Horrible service. I do understand how it earned a Michelin Star. The food was pretty unbelievable and it was right on the Bay. Check it out.
Be the first to ReplyBest freaking chowder ever!
Hands down best clam chowder in the world….yes, the world! Been coming here for years, once drove all the way from San Diego just to have a bowl of this amazing chowder.
Be the first to ReplyStill a good place but not what it used to be
I think this is still a good place, but compared to a couple of years ago it took a slight down turn. Overall still great service, but the food used to be amazing now it is good. The location is still outstanding, with a great view on the bay bridge. The majority of the food is made with cream. Which I get it, with cream tastes everything better and therefore easier to cook.

20 + C temps, clear skies, patio seating looking out towards the bay and bridge. Started off with six on the half shell - Very nice little oysters! Went on to the fried anchovies while the wife had the grilled cheese sandwich, which was an excellent choice for all you non seafood types.
