This place was awesome! Right across from the Hampton Inn & Suites French Quarter. The bar dive bar with great regulars and service. The bartender made the place. She was friendly, enjoyed her time behind the bar and took care of everyone. As you walk through the bar and head to the back, you'll see a small room with restaurant tables for the small kitchen. You order and it's at the window. What a delicious shrimp lunch I had; more shrimp than I could eat. Hubby's chicken sandwich was ok but the winner was the shrimp! Spoke with the former owner of the bar and learned his brother owns the kitchen. Was a fun afternoon talking with locals. A great find.
Be the first to ReplyThe place can be hard to find.
You have to tell the door guy if you're eating at the bar, or the restaurant. The restaurant is small. They make your stuff to order, but everything is basically ala carte. It's good, but a teensy bit on the expensive side.

When going to this place, you go down a dark alleyway. The process of ordering the food is a little different but oh is it good. The first time I got the hash brown platter with an egg, bacon & hash browns. It was very good. I went back a 2nd time & got fried chicken. It was good too.

Good food, quick service, plenty of good coffee & personality. Our favorite breakfast in NOLA!
Be the first to ReplyCame here for breakfast/lunch at about 8am.
Delicious pancakes and we got an Italian sausage Po boy. Tasty! Affordable price. You can eat in but we took ours to go. Visiting New Orleans this is a nice little spot to grab food early or late in the day.
Be the first to ReplyGreat local food and excellent service.
If you want to eat like the locals, try it here. Gigantic portions.

This tiny hole in the wall has the best biscuits in the entire world. Period. It's down a short alley and not easy to find, but worth the search. Fast, hot, delicious, and affordable.

Traditional po boy sans which tastes great! Gumbo is fresh and rich! Very nice people.
Be the first to ReplyThe food at Hobnobber's was absolutely atrocious.
I ordered the catfish and jambalaya combo with a cup of gumbo. I've had better catfish elsewhere and the jambalaya wasn't good at all. Their gumbo was the worst gumbo I've ever had and I didn't think that was possible in New Orleans. It was thin and watery as if they didn't cook it with a roux and it was sooooooo bland. When I say it didn't have a stitch of seasoning, it didn't have a stitch of seasoning. It was like eating a bowl of water with stuff thrown in it. It was so bad, I actually return the gumbo. I don't know if the guy was the owner or the manager but, he was nice about it and offered me another bowl. But, by that point, I was extremely put off by the lack of flavor in the gumbo so I told him no and just asked for a refund. He seemed hell bent on proving me wrong that the cup of gumbo I ordered was a fluke and still gave me another bowl I didn't ask for. The gag is, that bowl of gumbo was just as bad as the first one. It, too, didn't have any seasoning. Honestly, I feel robbed. The food was definitely NOT worth the $28 I spent. Clearly, the locals love this spot but, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone from out of town.

Food is always awesome! Had the Liver and Grits this morning!!!! No matter who answers the phone it's always a friendly voice.
Be the first to ReplyWoke up the other morning and was craving something.
So I took the street car downtown and walked in. It was my first experience at the establishment. I sat at the bar for 34 minutes while employees walked all around me without acknowledging my existence. Finally, I asked for assistance, the employee acted annoyed. I asked to start a tab and would be purchasing food as well. The guy made me pay out . Finally a bartender arrived. He never said one word to me and I was the only person there. I never got food. I felt disrespected as the only customer. Also a bum was in there begging. Get your shit together....Edit:In response to the owner, there is a sign in the bar saying it's open at 6am... maybe that should be taken down if it doesn't open until 10.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure why the reviews are so high on this restaurant.
I have been here before and everything was so good but when we went back on this visit (about 4 yrs later) the food quality was not good. SomeOysters were VERY strong tasting and the shrimp were not very good. Gumbo tasted too oily. Tuna sandwich barely had any tuna on it. Not worth the money and we won't be back.

I was a little nervous going back to the restaurant, which is tucked down a hallway behind the bar. But the food was great! Fried catfish and jambalaya were delicious!! I'm guessing it was the owner or manager was very hospitable!

Be the first to ReplyOur stop here was on the recommendation of the hotel front
Our stop here was on the recommendation of the hotel front desk lady by the convention center. As restaurant owners ourselves out in AZ, we seek out down home places that are recommended by the locals who know where to find good home grinds. This is the SPOT. The owners are great scratch chefs, with great food, loyal employees, and just has that Cheers type of atmosphere where everyone is part of the conversation. Our breakfast was delicious and we appreciated the complimentary bowl of Red Beans & Rice from the owner himself. This is the American dream. We will always remember our visit here and recommend folks to try this place for some real food by owners who care about their product and their people.
Be the first to ReplyI love the chef salad here, and the service is always great.
The staff is fun and friendly.

My favorite downtown dive bar that also serves a solid breakfast and lunch. Very laid-back atmosphere, good prices, and the people who work here go out of their way for the customers. When we left one of our phones in the bar, they tracked us down by calling people in the phone's contact list, held the phone for us to pick up, and then wouldn't accept any money from us for their help. So, we stayed and drank a 2nd time. :)Good people.
Be the first to ReplyBy far one of the best poboy and gumbo shops I've had.
This isn't a fancy restaurant, it's got the feels of a working person's chop shop and the flavors to go with it. Had a gator poboy and a cup of some really fantastic gumbo done right - not gumbo for its own sake, but gumbo made of the leftover bits and tips from the other cuttings. My friend's cup had a whole crab leg in it.10/10 stop by for lunch.
