Fantastic dining experience
Fantastic dining experience, choice of small plates tapas style and sharing platters. Delicious alternative to traditional Indian meal.

Such beautiful food, amazing atmosphere and the friendliest staff I think I’ve ever met. Whilst only a small venue, it really works. Trust the staff’s recommendations.
Be the first to ReplyMost delicious Indian, ever!
We had a superb lunch - the food, especially the masala, was absolutely delicious! Patrycja was most cheerful, helpful and friendly in serving us. We’ll definitely return!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food & service in this very intimate restaurant
Had a fantastic evening at this quirky little restaurant The food was fabulous. The staff were extremely helpful & attentive. Conceptually a great twist on the curry theme. Will definitely return
Be the first to ReplyExtraordinary Venison Donut!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu was straightforward and we weee spoilt for choice. The staff provided us with helpful information. The shot bomb started was a delight, and although every dish was lovely, the venison donut deserves special mention. Quite extraordinary. Great wines by the glass and an excellent cocktail too.
Be the first to ReplySuper tasty Indian food
We live nearby and this was our 3rd visit to the Gunpowder. It’s really tasty Indian food, promptly served, in a cozy atmosphere. We had a French friend across and he was also enraptured. Special mention to the seabass, the pork ribs, the okra fries, and many others. We had a delicious dinner.
Be the first to ReplyGood wine
We went for a very early dinner. Food is really nice, good wine and very friendly people around. For sure we will be back. Almost forgot about a dessert, bread and butter is a must.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Indian Tapas
Really loved our visit. Lots of places say they are doing Indian tapas then disappoint! Gunpowder certainly didn’t - even made broccoli exciting. Recommend you book as packed on a Tuesday evening. 😀
Be the first to ReplyModern Indian in intimate cosy setting ..
Walk in on Saturday night and pleased to get a seat…. Didn’t know what to expect but menu looked interesting, if not familiar. Staff very attentive and explained the menu items. They recommended around 5 items (like tapas menu) but since we were not hungry chose 3. Venison Doughnut. Potato chaat and mustard broccoli and 2 glasses of their house Portuguese red. It was all delicious and very different from my normal Indian food. Venison was the best ! Very nice visit and will return with an appetite next time
Be the first to ReplySmall portions limited lunch menu
The lunch menu is fairly priced 22£ for two courses. The tandoori chicken chop was very small . The okra fries were reasonable. Main dish- strips of beef in a curry sauce was a decent portion . A bowl of white rice was included . The waiter was not customer friendly and unusual for such a restaurant did not replace the plates and cutlery - why should I eat curry beef on a plate with tandoori sauce ? Ate many Indian restaurants and this one has a very limited menu plus wooden stools uncomfortable .

Wow - did I ever expect to have a shot as food? Rasam ke Bomb will let you have this experience! Also, this place has the meatiest soft shell crab I've ever had - definitely recommended! Don't be scared to overorder ;)
Be the first to ReplyNot your typical indian!
Me and my girlfriend tried our luck while passing by this small restaurant and where nicely surprised that even though restaurant was full ladies managed to squeeze us in. Place is small but cosy with only bar stools and high tables what gives the place casual vibe. Staff was fantastic! Very passionate and knowledgeable and always ready to answer all our questions. Food wasn't traditional Indian curry and bread but modern Indian inspired dishes full of flavour. For me winer was venison doughnut, chaat and lamb. My girlfriend loved bomb (small shot of soup), duck and saag. Definitely will be back!

Had a wonderful visit to Gunpowder Spitalfields. First of all, the food was so good. A little pricey for the portion sizes, but due to us going for a special occasion, every penny was worth it. Highlights definitely being the chaat and the mustard broccoli. The staff and service were on point. Every need we could have had was met and nothing seemed to be a problem. One particular waitress (I think I overheard her name as Chloe? but I could be wrong) was great. Gave us good recommendations and even helped to organize a dessert for my partner's birthday. Will definitely be back to try the menu items we didn't get to try this time around!
Be the first to ReplyThe staff make this place!
Very intimate atmosphere, and the staff are really friendly and attentive. The food was good, if slightly overpriced. The waitress that served us (blonde hair) was lovely, so helpful and kind. All the staff we saw were very nice. We will definitely visit again!
Be the first to ReplyLooks like, they are serving pre-cooked microwave heated foodfood
We went to Towergate Gun Powder restaurant to spend some quality time with family. The first thing waiter told us that our table is for one and half hour, 2nd thing, he said that grill is not working so can't serve some items. We ordered food, service was faster than McDonald, We doubted that the food might be ready to serve and they are just heating in the microwave. The lamb chops was cold which was returned and they brought it proper hot later. We paid good money but not enjoyed time in the restaurant. Its OK restaurant, if you are looking for very fast service and just going there to eat.

Absolutely wonderful food. First class. The menu choice is just right, not too large, but we wanted everything on it. We were very lucky to get a table as we were Saturday dinner time walk-in's. The only down-side is the limited space, especially for an ex-front row rugby player like myself but we coped. Service was excellent with really helpful staff willing to explain anything regarding items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyVery pricey good food
The food is tasty, but you can get the same somewhere else for half of the price. If you are happy to pay, you can go. Very loud atmosphere; a small restaurant with many tables bunched closely together. If there’s a noisy crowd next to you, you may not be able to hear yourself think! The funny thing is the online reservation, it showed you need to wait, but actually we arrived half hour early and there are 3 tables available.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Indian, lovely ribs
I came here, following the Michelin guide’ recommendation. Found it very nice, with great quality and nice “different” specialties from the usual suspects you find in Indian restaurants. Ribs are especially delicious!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Gunpowder
This is a tiny restaurant with an enormous atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the service is excellent. We had the small plates of food which were fresh, tasty and delicious. I really cannot fault this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyNice, different, but not blown away
Very small restaurant in Spitalfields (the one in Soho is much bigger and has a bigger menu), but cosy and welcoming. You will sit on stools though for the most part. Not a huge menus but plenty of sharing plates to try. Nice food well cooked.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible authentic flavours
Just Wow, the flavours were incredible and every dish was so unique. Simply amazing, I will definitely be returning. Staff were very friendly!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food let down by poor service and experience
Firstly would like to say that the food at gunpowder is outstanding. All dishes thoroughly enjoyed, although at the high price point paid you would expect something special.
Food aside, I would not visit again because the restuarant is let down by miserable service and a lack of ambience. Our waitress kept interrupting us in a rude manner. We felt it wasn't worth complaining about but were continually treated with disdain during our meal. The restuarant lacks ambience and is layed out in a way that, if you are near the entrance, you constantly have your table crowded by people waiting for tables or deliveroo drivers.
We paid £100 a head which was fair for the quality of food and drink received, but the poor service left a bad taste that would see us rather visit elsewhere in the future.
Good but massively over priced
The food was ok overall however some dishes were extremely over priced and you can find better for a much lower price in London. The service was friendly however you were squashed into a small room. You could hear the table next to you as much as the person opposite.
Be the first to ReplySmall but perfectly formed
What a wonderful find. We love Indian food and this was a fabulous place to eat it, with a twist. We couldn't decide so had the feast menu. Everything was lovely and they were happy to swap the beef for fish, which was so good! We were so full it was a struggle to fit in the amazing chocolate brownie and ice cream that came with this option! The staff were lovely and kept us topped up with water throughout the meal, which was perfect. They were happy to chat despite being busy. It's a very small place and I mean small! The tables are high with stools, which aren't that comfortable to be honest but everything else made up for that. We'd recommend trying this place if near Spitalfields.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous small plates sharing restaurant
Fantastic food, fantastic service and ambience. Only issue is that it is small and like an old pub but it’s quirky fun and I would come back again.
