Best Micheladas!
The service was top notch our waiter was so friendly and helpful. The best micheladas I have had. I like them spicy so I went for the "brown" michelada as it is more spicy than the regular red michelada. I had the Jamaica Fresca and the horchata as well which were great. We also had 2 mezcal cocktails which were fantastic and the favorite being the yellow passionflower mezcal cocktail called "Pasion De Oaxaca". We ordered the molotes for apps and that was incredible. They have the best green salsa ( ask for it you won't be sorry). We tried most of the moles Coloradito, negro, red & estofado. My favorite was the estofado and my boyfriends fav was there Negro mole which is their signature Mole. They did not have the Amarillo or the verde mole available at that time. We then shared the tlayuda the original one and we added chorizo ( they make the chorizo there fresh and it's amazing) and it was really good ( huge) I will post pics, in the pic we had already eaten half! It is as large as a pizza! Then we tried the Memelas which to me was ok but my boyfriend really liked it. Lastly we tried the original empanada, I thought it was ok, but again my boyfriend really liked it. Again the service was fantastic and the drinks were fantastic and everything came out in a timely manner. They have tables set up outside with umbrellas over it for shade. You can buy there Moles to take home which is awesome and they have the Oaxaca cookbook with their recipes that you can buy. They also sell their amazing red and brown michelada mix I will be back to try more great things off their menu.
Be the first to ReplyYou gotta like mole...
I will preface this review with the confession that I did not like mole before visiting Guelaguetza. However, my husband loves the stuff and after reading all the reviews on how great their mole is I thought I would give it a try.
Me and my husband ordered the enmolada negro and decided to share. Service was fast and good, presentation was cool, a black sauce piled high with long shreds of white oaxaca cheese.
Taste....okay still don't like mole.
This one WAS different, however. Lots of flavor, sweeter than I'm used to. My husband loved it and cleared the plate.
He highly recommends the mole, I highly recommend for service.
Not what I remember...
Was at another of their locations years ago, now closed, so came here yesterday. Definitely not the same. Had chips with a sweet mole on them, was good. We ordered the variety meat plate, came out with a thin slice of beef, thin slice of pork, and five small balls of chorizo. The plate was brought out almost immediately, so I think the meats were pre- prepared and just warmed up. The beef and pork were ok, but pretty dry. The chorizo, was pretty mushy. The black beans were good, fresh green salad was ok. Used to be much fresher meat and more tasty. Had the flan with chocolate, ok, also a little dry. Probably won't return. Not the famous destination I remember!
Be the first to Replyalways fun, always lively: get the grasshoppers
Oaxaca food is always good especially the mole. However it's the grasshoppers which makes this a fun place to eat (not to mention the live entertainment). Enjoy! Great for family.
Be the first to ReplyThat band Though!
The mole was too sweet for my taste and the rice was different, but who cares because the horchata, flan, and the rockin' live band more than made up for it. The ambience alone in this place is enough to sway any diner, and it did for me.
My family hails from Northern Mexico, so I'm partial to Abuelita's mole, spicy with only a hint of sweetness. So don't judged me. All in all, I loved this place and I'd come back anytime.
By the way, WHO is the band?!
Chorizo and cheese goodness!
Outstanding appetizers!!! The cheese w chorizo was one of the best I tried...the guacamole had lots of flavor and a tad of spice:) perfect
The Bloody Mary was spicy and pure deliciousness!!!! Our entire group was happy with all the selections for dinner! A must if you visit LA...note: not fancy at all but a must try!!!!
Best mole EVER
We went here during our honeymoon and it was perfect. Super authentic feel, live music and amazing food.
We ordered the queso fundido, black bean side and guacamole as an entree and shared the enmoladas. Sooooo good the black mole is a must!
Mole, five varieties!
If you love mole, this is the spot for you. Five different varieties of mole. If you are unfamiliar with the various flavors, ask the waiter to bring you out a sample of each - a great way to appreciate the subtle differences in taste. This restaurant also offers a great cross section of authentic dishes. Don't expect the typical Americanized Mexican food.
Friday and Saturday nights are packed so make a reservation. On these nights there is entertainment.
As you drive there, don't think you are in the wrong neighborhood. It is now in the middle of Korea Town - this reflects the rapidly evoking ethnic neighborhoods in LA. That's what makes dining in LA such great fun.
Festival of Moles, Ole'
I was in Mexico city last fall and got my first true taste of Oaxacan food most especially moles. This restauarant es muy autentico. They serve some amazing moles. I was really impressed. They even serve chipolines which I had also tried in Mexico City. It is not a chic or fashionable restaurant but is homey and noisy and fun. I say ole for the mole. I will definitely go back and bring my friends with me.
