The service was great, good ambiance, a bit confusing as the day we went there was a huge line for the club on the rooftop and there's not really clear signage for restaurant or club. I had to fight thru a crowd to let the door man know we were there for a reservation. The food was OK, drinks were better. We ordered drinks (1 each), 1 pasta, 1 pizza, 2 entrees, 2 apps It was like $200/person for a table of 4 I'd probably only come back for drinks. Parking in the lot next door is $10-$20 depending on the night it's a small lot so definitely try parking there before 9 on the weekend!

Note: This review is just for the rooftop bar and not the restaurant. I came by for a popup party several weeks ago and had an amazing time at the rooftop bar. Service from the staff was great and there was plenty of bartenders available to make drinks so there wasn't too long of a wait. I got some pizza after looking through the menu and it was quite tasty. The porchetta slice I got was crispy and the crust wasn't burnt. There was a good amount of toppings on top and the pineapple and chili were a great sweet and savory combo. I got the portal six cocktail which was the special for the day and it packed a punch! It was refreshing and they can make pretty much any cocktail you want. There's plenty of tables to sit down and relax at and to enjoy the music coming from the DJ booth and they have speakers spread throughout so you can hear the music wherever you are. Bathrooms are located one level down and are unisex and clean and spacious. The theming throughout the building is really unique and parking is available at $10 next door. Looking forward to returning soon to check out the restaurant and to enjoy the rooftop bar again.

We've been here twice in the last 4 months and I can now say that they have the best espresso martini in LA!! This time we tried the margarita pizza and pork chops with pistachio miso sauce. So good! We would definitely order them again. Service is impeccable! You can never go wrong bringing someone here for date night or just to catch up. I like that they switch up their menu and we'll probably be back this summer!

Amazing ambiance. Unique menu. Not too pricey for a nice restaurant.

Nice service but menu is AWFUL! Wine selection is bland and tastes like bottles have gone bad. Food is mushy and weird tasting. Theme is weird: why trying for fancy Italian in an industrial space with a hip hop spot on the roof? Literally the only place in Hollywood where there was nothing decent to eat and had to get food at a second spot after. Such a disappointment.

Amazing food, beautiful ambiance! Had a really delicious dinner here with friends and am looking forward to returning. Parking - parked at the lot next door for $10 Atmosphere - we had a 5:30pm reservation at the restaurant and it was relatively empty/quiet which was nice as we were able to hear one another. Drinks - had a variety of cocktails and service was great. Food - Foccacia with the whipped butter was INSANELY good. We paired with the burrata and oh my goodness was so good! I had the truffle rissoto and loved every last bite. Friends had salads and the gnocchi and enjoyed as well. We also got some potatoes to share. Price - not crazy expensive but not cheap. You are truly paying for good quality food. 100% would like to return!

Be the first to ReplyI want to start with saying that this place is probably
I want to start with saying that this place is probably better for smaller parties. If you have a bigger party and want host something like a larger dinner I would go somewhere else. Came here with a party of 15, but the person who booked the reservation was only contacted a few days before the reservation about how there was a policy for larger parties having to pay $95 per person for a pre-fix menu. $95 per person isn't bad for LA, but the plates are family style so I don't understand why we would have to pay $95 each to share plates. They made it seem like 15 people was too many for kitchen to accommodate, being the reason for the pre-fix, which is fine, but you should really make people aware of that policy when they book, in which this case the booking was made weeks in advance, not only that but it should also be written somewhere on the website which it is not. The person who handled the booking apparently didn't "remember the phone call" and The only solution given to this issue with no apology on their end was to split our 15 party into two separate booths. When I arrived I was expecting a packed busy restaurant but turns out hardly anyone was there! They were not overwhelmed at all, and wanted us to pay $95 per person basically to have two tables pushed together so we could all sit with each other. Also when I walked in, they were very strict about the fact not everyone in the party was 21 and had a big stamp placed on their hand if they weren't, completely understandable, but odd to experience at a restaurant. I went to the hostess to join the party I was with, and an older looking man that looked like maybe a manager stated "she's probably with the table full of underage kids". I took this as something that was very condescending. Even if not everyone is 21, everyone present was a legal adult. When I'm spending money at a restaurant, I expect to be treated as such. Even if everyone isn't 21, we were all still paying customers. Maybe he was just disappointed some of us wouldn't be able to spend money on overpriced drinks on top of overpriced food that is nothing to write home about. The chefs actually looked like they could also be underage if anything. This restaurant is trying to act like a fine dining restaurant but the service and food is Cheesecake Factory level. Maybe be more accommodating when facing booking issues and don't be condescending to paying customers about their age. Besides that the only food I really enjoyed was the focaccia bread with the balsamic butter, very good. And our server was nice as well and had good energy. I just think there's some things this restaurant could definitely work on service wise and menu wise. The ambiance could be improved as well. Instead of a fun relaxed night out, I was separated from majority of my friends and felt like some of them were being judged for simply not being born earlier?? Might as well make it a club and just not let anyone who's underage in at all! Edit because I just did the math to really see how much of a money grab this place is: $95 per person for a group of 15 is an automatic 1.4k. Add an automatic 20% gratuity and a BOH service charge is pretty much near $2k (more than half of our bill when sitting separately) just to have tables pushed together to eat overcooked pasta and be treated like a nuisance is complete utter insanity!
Be the first to ReplyI went back to Grandmaster Recorders with Matt B.
last month, and we had an excellent date night. We were able to book a last-minute table on a Saturday, and were generally pleased with the balance of buzzy ambiance and lack of headache. Service was great, and we had a lovely time. We enjoyed a round of cocktails to start, and both were delicious. What Fools These Mortals was a nice milk punch made with Stranahan's whiskey, verjus, black sesame syrup, and aromatic bitters. Midnight Vultures was a sweet and spicy drink with 400 Conejos mezcal, Ancho Reyes Verde, Campari, prickly pear, and cilantro, with a lime/salt/Tajin rim. We shared a bottle of Sangiovese to go with the rest of our meal. The food was fantastic. We started with a fresh loaf of focaccia and the buffalo burrata. The focaccia was soft and warm, served with an addictive whipped balsamic butter drizzled with aged balsamic. The buffalo burrata came in a lush, milky ball with a fragrant, flavorful combination of burnt honey, crunchy chili, and rosemary. We shared two pastas and an entrée, and this was a large but totally correct order for two hungry people. I loved the mortadella agnolotti, neat meaty packets in a parmigiano reggiano cream sauce with aged balsamic and Santa Barbara pistachios. The lamb ragu chitarra was good too, with smoked tomatoes, garlic, saffron, pecorino romano, and oregano. Finally, we feasted on the Peads & Barnett pork chop, perfectly pink and tender, with a simple side of puntarella alla romana, or Italian chicory salad, and a pistachio miso paste. We went easy on dessert and got the affogato al caffé, a pretty ideal way to end a heavy meal. This was a small scoop of ricotta gelato served with shots of espresso and Amaretto. I've been to Grandmaster Recorders twice now and it's a restaurant with definite repeat value, fun and hassle-free with top notch food and drink. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a lively place to get dinner.
Be the first to ReplyI'll start off with the good part of my experience.
The ambiance when we first got there was nice. The vibe at the rooftop bar was great. We were offered a table for our group of 4. We sat after we had ordered a few drinks at the bar. After a good 45 minutes, each one of us closed out at the bar. This was our first time checking this place out, so we all wanted to go to the downstairs bar. We had a drink and made our way into the dance floor where the dj was playing all the 90s jams. While we were dancing, we were approached and accused by "James," one of the managers there that we had skipped out on our bill upstairs. He kept claiming, "He saw us skip out on the bill and thought we had left without paying." We all pulled up out paid receipts and showed him. He then was bothered and stormed off saying "he would figure it out." At this point, we were all annoyed, embarrassed, to say the least. We then spoke to the manager "Eric" who apologized for the way "James" accused us. He left to go talk to "James," who then apologized, but continued to argue about how he comped our bill. This was the worst customer service I've ever received. While we were waiting for our car since we valet, the head of their security and the host both apologized. I will not be giving this place a second chance. It's a shame that things ended the way they did.
Be the first to ReplyFun location and tasty cocktails.
Eric provides great service and ensures it's a great experience for the guests. Will definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyI always have fun when my nights end up here.
Eric the manager is such an amazing bartender and guy, he always makes me and my friends feel right at home :)
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food, drinks and service.
Great ambience. Also after dinner I like you can go to rooftop or 1st floor for drinks and music. Great night for dinner and dancing all in one place.

My Friends and I were publicly berated and borderline harassed by this staff member "James" for "not paying", even though we all had receipts. In addition, my group of 4 never received any table service whatsoever ever, so we ordered and closed out at the bar. We spent a lot of time/ money here to be wrongfully accused of running out on the bill. At the end of the day, "James" wasn't even showing us the tab/ orders for my group. He was irrational and very rude to people who otherwise would've had a wonderful night. He ruined our night and shouldve be more organized and have better problem solving abilities because it is clear he has none and has no regard for service. He needs a different job, some sensitivity training and to reevaluate his career in the service industry. There are warranted reasons to come correct and this was not one of them James ( also not his real name apparently).
Be the first to ReplySO DISAPPOINTED.
First floor = Seventy One Bar + dance area w/ DJ; down the hall = restaurant. Second floor = bathrooms only. Third floor = rooftop bar. Came in with a group of 4 - rooftop bar doesn't take reservations. Went to rooftop & were offered a table by hostess "V". Ordered appetizers, drinks & shots from the **BARTENDER AT THE BAR** no server service was provided other than delivering the food to the table.**After drinks + appetizers, we each (4) went to bar to close out our tabs that covered said drinks and appetizers.** Went downstairs to restaurant & had ANOTHER round of drinks. Closed out tab. On our way out, went to the THIRD stop at their venue,Seventy One Bar. After dancing for 20 or so minutes we were RUDELY approached by "James" "a manager" claiming server "Kennedy" on the rooftop TOLD him that they SAW my group skipping out on the check upstairs. James verbatim said, "I saw you at the table and you didn't pay." My group spent over $600 combined after ordering multiple rounds of drinks, shots and food at the BAR from the bartender. James stormed off saying he'd "figure it out" and that he'd "be back." Understandably, at this point, we were no longer having fun.James did not come back so we approached "manager Eric" to discuss what had happened and to make sure it was cleared up. Eric claimed he was sorry and that he'd speak to James. Neither of them got back to us so we decided to make our way out. On the way out we see James and he says he "COMPED" the bill for us and not to "worry" about it ... as if he did us a favor ... saying he "took care of it." No one was worried about paying for the bill James ... but we WERE worried that you thought it was okay to insult and embarrass patrons like that. The gall to disrespect and embarrass us that way and think we'd hang around to DANCE after.James ruined our night by accusing us of stealing and then acting like he did us a FAVOR by "comping" the bill. After James stormed off in the middle of us explaining that we had paid, Hostess "V" walked up and told us we should "just forget it" since the bill was "comped" and nothing else would be happening. Manager "Eric" eventually made James apologize but ultimately the experience was ruined. It's kind of hard to get back into having a fun time after you've been accused of stealing. WHY would we stick around and go to TWO OTHER places within your establishment and spend MORE MONEY, if we were trying to skip out on the bill?? We were having so much fun. It's so disappointing it had to end this way. We were disrespected and embarrassed by James, Eric, and V. We were lied on by "Kennedy" who we never even saw. Why would we ever go back to a place where we were accused and harassed of skipping out on the bill? Get serious.
Be the first to ReplySome friends and I decided to check out Grandmaster
Some friends and I decided to check out Grandmaster Recorders on Friday night; and we had quite the time. First we had a drink on the rooftop, it was a beautifully designed space, and the cocktails choices were inspired. After realizing we were a little more hungry than we initially thought (the rooftop offers apps) we asked if we could dine at the restaurant downstairs. The manager, Eric, let us know it was it was booked out, but he was such a great problem solver that he got us a table. He was warm, friendly, and we much appreciated his hospitality. The food in the restaurant is Italian with an Australian twist. We started with the focaccia (a MUST!) paired with the buffalo burrata and our tastebuds were delighted! We had to order a second helping! I got the gnocchi which was great, and I can't wait to dine there again to try more menu items! Eric was so great he even came downstairs to check on us and he invited us to check out the studio, a club on the first floor, which had a DJ playing nice throwback jams. Perfect for working off the focaccia!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely recommend this place! Great service and nice
Definitely recommend this place! Great service and nice ambiance. Upstairs has a rooftop that's trendy and overlooks Hollywood. Downstairs is a restaurant and little club playing old school hip hop. I like how you can go chill on the rooftop or go dancing on another level. Everyone is friendly and helpful.

Came here for the St Patrick's day party!First incident was when security came up to me and told me they had reports of me pushing others when I just got here, basic gaslighting Was totally fun until security came up to me p2 and said I was too drunk etc? And honestly I'm like an asian girl it's yet somehow they thought it was a good idea to send like five security guys over at me? Dudes tried to physically come at me too until I started lecturing them, literally had to push them away. Idk what management was doing yet this is not it
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and and food.
Tried a bunch of different stuff and loved it all. Highly recommend the pork chop!
Be the first to ReplyThe food, the service, the ambiance was dope.
The grilled squid was amazing as was all the food we ordered. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyWhere to start about this miserable experience? The setting
Where to start about this miserable experience? The setting is undeniably cool and they play music from all the recordings made there. Rooftop restaurant was the only venue open but the heaters and cover kept it nice. And that's where the good stuff ends. We had reservations for our group on 10 and were literally the only people there when we arrived. Our waitress - who was great considering the lousy position she was put in - was friendly and took our orders right away. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Those of us who ordered an individual item, like a sandwich, got it in about 10 minutes. Those who ordered the "bottomless pizza" had to wait 45 minutes for a single slice. Then another 15 for the next. I waited the longest because I asked for the cheese slice. Needless to say, most of us just had 2-3 small slices and gave up. All this for about $30 per person. As it happens, the slices were quite tasty... but not worth $20 and 45 minutes. I was told they were super busy - but we were the first party there - and that the chef was new, etc. our poor waitress did her best to apologize for what she knew was a bad experience. If I was going for cocktails, it would probably be ok. But I'd never go for a meal again.
Be the first to ReplyGrandmaster Recorders has to be one of the most over-hyped
Grandmaster Recorders has to be one of the most over-hyped restaurants in LA. This is a popular spot for a lot of Hollywood Executives, so I knew I had to see what all of the fuss was about. A cool aspect about this restaurant is its rich history, which they have a whole page dedicated to this on their website. After reading it, I was super excited to come here, but was disappointed to see that there's not many historical nods except for some general decor around the host stand. I wish they had more visual components that showed you all of the famous bands that have recorded here. The restaurant itself is very modern/industrial, not the most exciting interior I've seen in LA, but still a good atmosphere for a date night. But the food had me thoroughly disappointed. The server was attentive, but made us feel pressured to order from every section on the menu. Maybe provide some more appetizing options and I will spend more money!! We started with the Buffalo Burrata. Flavor profile felt boring and lackluster, and for $22? PASS. I ordered the Pappardelle which was good, would definitely order again. But my boyfriend ordered the Orecchiette w/lamb...I have never seen this man struggle to finish a plate so I had to try it myself to see how bad it really was. For you gamers out there, this meal reminds of the Dubious Food from Zelda Breath of the Wild...and I expect it tastes the same too. Lucky for you, I don't think they have it on the menu anymore. For dessert, we ordered the Tiramisu which comes with the instagram worthy GMR chocolate record on top. The only thing this dessert is worthy of is a photo, the tiramisu was very mediocre and dry and the chocolate record was too thick to enjoy in combination with the tiramisu below. I'm sure their roof top bar is better, but would definitely skip the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyCheers to amazing service, management and f&b.
Having recently moved back down to LA from Sacramento I knew I needed to check out this location and bring my favorite person with me.First impression was a bustling, energetic restaurant. There was just the right amount of servers on the floor as well as the beverage manager and GM.It was all hands on deck and I always appreciate when leadership is there with their team. The courses were timed perfectly and the drinks were to die for. My French martini was one of the best I have ever had and the table side Nitro Sgroppino left a lasting impression (thank you John for making that happen).Between the two of us, we ordered the Burrata, Brussel sprouts and duck pate as starters and main course was the gnocchi. Our server did mention that this was on the lighter side which we appreciated, but it ended up being perfect for the two of us even with the delicate portion sizes. This will not be the last time I dine here and cannot wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibes all around.
The service for drinks is amazing, very attentive bartenders. Cool rooftop bar in Hollywood.
