mehMy friend and i were craving french food so we came here.
the ambiance and decor are nice, but the food is nothing special, and especially not worth the high ticket price. I ordered the tarte flambée, and let me tell you, you might as well buy the one they sell at trader joe's, which tastes better and is way cheaper. My friend got the steak frites and said it was just okay as well. I guess I'm not surprised they're closing down. Here's hoping the next restaurant is better than taking advantage of its newbury street location.

This review & photos are for the new "Little Whale" (former Grand Tour). Promising. Nice outdoor seating & service & dishes (enjoyed the presentation & use of ingredients for halibut - just a bit salty).

Hearing that Grand Tour is closing to be reimagined into another concept, I felt compelled to give this place a try before they're gone. Especially since it has good ratings and I don't think there are many French restraints around Boston. Overall 5 stars. The food was great and service was nice. Since the 4 of us dined on a Tuesday night, it was not busy at all so we got seated right away. Atmosphere looks classy yet casual, and the music was good. Was pricey but worth it because the food was delicious, came out hot and fresh. My favorite side/app was the mushrooms, and favorite main was the fish!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and friendly service.
We had the charcuterie, spring pea ragout, Maine mussels, and lamb shank. The mussels in particular were a standout - super fresh, perfect broth, just enough tasty bread. The inside was nice too - cozy vibe downstairs with the open kitchen and bar.

One of the best meals we've had since moving back to Boston! Outstanding food, wine and service. A++!

My kids are a headache to feed when they don't enjoy what they're eating. During our dinner at Grand Tour, they practically inhaled their food so that was a treat on top of already great dishes. We had the steak tartare, hamachi crudo, duck, lamb, and prime ribeye. I would've much preferred potato chips with the steak tartare instead of bread; however, that's a personal preference. Hamachi crudo was surprisingly very good. My daughter has a lot of food allergies. Our server and the kitchen were great. They made the duck for her and she safely enjoyed it and even asked for seconds. My son and I shared the prime ribeye. Fantastic quality of meat for a reasonable price. My son is a typical 4 year old that'd rather go on a hunger strike than be forced to eat anything he didn't like. He must've eaten half of the ribeye. Most of it was cooked medium rare with a nice, discernible crispy crust. There was some bits that were more medium. Suited us just fine though because my son devoured it anyway. Husband enjoyed his lamb immensely. I loved how there were some proper greens with every main dish.No cocktails served, just wine and beer. We don't know the area at all. Grand Tour appears to be situated within a residential neighborhood with some shops scattered around. We chose to eat outside and found the umbrella handy when there was a slight sprinkle. Gratuity was already set at 20%. Didn't bother us but thought it noteworthy.---Came back and ate again the following night for dinner because we couldn't find another place nearby that would accommodate my daughter's allergies. This time we ate inside. You have to go down several steps to eat inside. A tighter fit inside. We folded the strollers. You also have to climb up a flight of stairs to use the restrooms. Food and service great again.
Be the first to ReplyA classic French bistro in the heart of Newbury Street.
The grand tour does a fairly decent job at serving a space that is limited when it comes to options for diverse European fare. The food is nothing exceptional. It does just enough to give you some of the classic French flavors. The duck breast was juicy but nothing extraordinary. I wouldn't get the charcuterie board again. overall, if you're looking for French fare, but not willing to go to Rochambeau, then this is a spot for you to check out.
Be the first to ReplyThis is such a good spot! Very cute vibes.
We sat at the bar / counter for dinner. My only complaint is that it was pretty warm in there, otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Our server was great - knowledgeable, friendly, attentive without hovering, etc. We decided to start with the fava and chevre tartine. It was great! Creamy goat cheese, lots of crunchy veggies, and crisp but chewy toast. From there I had the confit chicken and my husband had the steak frites. Both were excellent, but the steak frites were a smidge better than the chicken. I think if I went again I'd stick with the steak. And I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in Boston!

Grand Tour continues to impress! When they first opened, I enjoyed a meal there, and today, I had another superb experience. After a bad lunch experience at a restaurant in Newton Center, I decided to properly re-do lunch by going to Grand Tour on Newbury Street. I ordered the Hamachi Crudo, and it was perfect. Super fresh, perfectly chilled, perfectly tender hamachi, each slice just the right thickness, and paired so well with sweet, juicy mango pieces (diced just the right size). The dish was a burst of flavor and so refreshing. Deserving of more than five stars for flavor, texture, and presentation. I also ordered the Tuna Salad Nicoise, which was also delicious. Each component of the salad was very fresh ~ generous portion of seared tuna, fresh frisee leaves, tender French green beans, perfectly hard-boiled egg, and just the right amount of flavorful, tangy dressing that complemented the fresh ingredients. Mmm!Service was kind and attentive from start to finish ~ a whole different league compared to the "service" I received at the earlier restaurant in Newton Center. Grand Tour does the Back Bay proud. Gold standard food and service! This is why people want to live in the Back Bay. Thank you for creating an all-around superb dining experience.

...super disappointed. Service was not good. Took 30 mins to get glass of sparkling ... clear server forgot, no apologies. 1hr 5mins for food which was part of a prix fixe so I imagine it was pretty standard. My dish was missing its side. 20% tacked on. Didn't want to deal, just wanted to go. Love me a good bistro and was excited about the chef. Meh and bummed.
