Lacklustre despite shiny reviews
We came with high expectations on the heels of strong recommendations. The space is quaint yet the service and food were lacklustre. Sadly our server was inattentive and rarely checked in with us. And while there were some interesting flavours, especially the roasted cauliflower dish, the mains tasted effectively unseasoned, and meats were incorrectly cooked.

Outstanding experience for our party of 12! Restaurant was highly recommended for our group from Al across the country. Food was excellent and the private space where we dined was wonderful. Fun bar on the lower level to gather before dinner

My wife and I dropped in the restaurant with no reservation on a very busy night . Luckily we were able to get seats at the bar . The restaurant and bar area were packed but the service was prompt and friendly. The menu was very good as was the wine list and bourbon selection. We both had steak , which was delicious, along with cauliflower and octopus. Our meal was perfect! We liked the atmosphere and energy of the restaurant. Every interaction we had with staff was pleasant and friendly. We were visiting Napa from out of state. On our next visit we will definitely stop in at Goose and Gander again .

I loved the layout of the restaurant. The design was charming. Our waitress of charming, didn't rush us, and it felt like home. The food was delicious as well. They also were happy to accommodate my requested change to my entree. Very satisfied customers.

My husband and I, along with our travel companions, had dinner here on the evening of August 20, 2023. We liked it so much that we returned for drinks the following night. Dinner was unbelievably delicious. The atmosphere, and the server were delightful. Of special note was the cocktail menu, which was full of special takes on traditional favorites.

We had an amazing dining experience at Goose and Gander! The service was truly incredible, from the moment we walked in to the restaurant to the moment we left. The hostess knew who we were when we arrived due to our reservations. She wished the birthday girl a happy birthday. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. The food was outstanding - each dish was a masterpiece of flavors and presentation. And let's not forget the cocktails, which were crafted with precision and creativity. The milk punch was a table favorite. This is my second time visiting Goose and Gander and it exceeded my expectations in every way, making it a must-visit restaurant for anyone looking for a memorable and delightful dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyAll a bit bland
Lively restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is a bit quirky covering staples such as burger and grilled chicken but also a selection of eclectic bar bites such as sticky pigs ears, bone marrow, etc. Everything we tried was a bit bland to be honest, lacking any real enjoyment.

We had a fabulous dinner. We shared lots of small plates and sides, which were all delicious, especially the wood-fired cauliflower and the fried olives.
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant meal and casual atmosphere.
An impromptu dinner reservation recommended by a friend acquainted with the Executive Chef (Tim Humphrey). There is a cozy 'speak-easy' in the basement of the building. Outstanding craft cocktails and a pub-like atmosphere entertained us while awaiting our table. This restaurant menu was not intimidating, but the quality of the dishes were top rate. We had a pork chop, a steak, gnocchi with gulf shrimp, and chicken. Lovely dishes and a personal greeting from Chef Tim made this experience one of a kind. We had dinner the previous evening at Press, and I will tell you that although Press has a Michelin star, the experience at Goose and Gander was FAR superior.

What a great find this place is even for us locals. We have heard about the goose for years but thought it might be a super casual not so special type of place. Boy were we surprised. Starting with our waiter, HUGO, who was a true professional server. He explained the menu and suggested some special things and cocktails that we did try. All were home runs. We were trying to find the best burger in the Napa Valley as we go out often and don't always enjoy rich foods. they grind their own meat and serve it with gruyere cheese and bacon with a special bun. The insides are super cozy with a fireplace and a cool bar downstairs.

Our group of 6 ladies visited for dinner on a Monday night. We were quickly seated in a booth. It took some time for our server to take drink orders. We ordered 3 different bottles of wine. 2 bottles arrived quickly while the 3rd took quite some time.We had to flag down our server to take our food orders. Several in our party ordered the mushroom soup as an appetizer and ti was excellent. Our group ordered a variety of foods - burger, scallops, duck, gnocchi, duck fat fries. The only food that disappointed was the gnocchi special. The ingredients did not seem to go together well and it was bland. Despite this we all enjoyed our dinner and the classic Craftsman atmosphere of Goose and Gander.

Don't miss eating at Goose and Gander. Amazing service, cocktails and the best rib eye steak I've had in some time. Pricey but well worth it. Excellent ambiance, super cozy and warm dining room and cool bar downstairs.

My husband and I came here with our daughter, who works in the restaurant industry here and Napa and we all enjoyed our dinner and experience so much. The atmosphere is perfect for a cozy night and every dish and appetizer we order was delicious. We had phenomenal service and great drinks as well. I highly recommend for couples and families alike.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food and Service!
The atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff is very attentive. Mark declared his steak was one of the best he has ever had- he applauded the chef on our way out. Highly recommend!! Reservations are likely required; however, we were able to get in as it was a weeknight.

I have wanted to try this place for a few years and finally made it. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating when we walked in right as the opened at 4:30 and asked if they had any reservations available. They were able to seat us at 5:15 so we came back and had a wonderful meal. The service was great, food was expertly cooked and ambiance was really quite lovely in their dining room. So why take a point off? The bathroom smelled funky. Really funky. Looked clean, smelled musty and liked sewer gas. I am assuming there is a malfunction of some kind and it is not always like this. It did not ruin the meal but it was certainly not pleasant and something to sort out in such a lovely establishment. Will be back but will try to avoid the rest room.
Be the first to ReplyA Rare Choice for Best On The Planet
Four of us stopped to have dinner at Goose & Gander in mid-October 2022. Our limousine driver, Maria, highly recommend it. Maria earned a bigger tip after this recommendation. The service was great. The food was great. The establishment was super clean. Becky, my wife, and I have had the privilege to travel the world and we are foodies. Therefore, we have eaten in many different places for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All different kinds of establishments. I have a list that I call BEST ON THE PLANET. These are dishes that have stood out as the best I ever had ... BAR NONE. I am very strict with this list. The standards are incredibly high. There are only 11 items on the list. Until now. Allow me to introduce to you Item #12 on the BEST ON THE PLANET food list: The Kurobuta Pork Chop at Goose & Gander, St. Helena, California. Eat this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyGood but inconsistent
Great vibe and ambiance on the patio, foods had some high points and one low point, toooo much salt so we had to return the dish.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious starters!
We had a very enjoyable dinner of just starters on the patio. The sticky pig ears was our favorite- sweet, salty and crunchy. Roast cauliflower was also very good. The octopus was very tender but slightly too salty. The only disappointment was the duck fat fries. We expected it to be very crispy, as that's what you usually get when fried in duck fat. The server was very friendly and attentive.

Came here for dinner while in the area. We had a reservation and sat down within 5 minutes. Ordered drinks and fried Olives and Pistachios. Finally ordered dinner. We shared a chopped salad and Cheeseburger as many people were getting them. Salad was very good as was the burger and the fries were also hot and fresh. Prices were consistent with being in the St. Helena area.

One of the best places in Napa valley! We Sat on the patio and throughly enjoyed the evening. The steak was perfect as were the mushrooms! Well done

We selected this restaurant for it’s home grown produce. The outdoor seating area feels like your own garden. We shared the octopus, the wings and the marrow as a starter. All nicely presented and tasty. For mains we had the burger and the daily special which was a seafood pasta. The burger comes with this crusty bun, very yummy. The key lime pie was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Meal and Great Service
We were in town visiting our son and daughter-in-law, and we left the dining choices up to them. One of their favorites is the Goose & Gander, and it quickly became one of our favorites, too. We were greeted warmly and taken to a lovely table in what I believe is the main room (this restaurant is huge, with both indoor and outdoor seating). Our server is attentive and a delight. Now the food: our starters included the bone marrow, corn croquetttes, and fried olives & pistacios. This was the second time we'd had fried olives (the first was at Il Posto in Napa). Where have they been all our lives? So tasty! Entrees were: the G&G burger (my husband said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had), pan-seared halibut, buttermilk chopped salad, and a shared mac and cheese. Well...everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We were too stuffed for dessert, but that menu looked great, too. The dining room we were in was so charming and comfortable. We're looking to return again some day.
Be the first to ReplyDecadent burger!
A really great meal with very quiet and pleasant outdoor patio dining. Our food was excellent. Prepared perfectly, plated with pride and served quickly. My burger was very decadent and the first time I’ve ever upgraded to the bone marrow burger. Everything about the burger was great! The bun was spectacular, crispy outside, fresh soft interior. Burger was so flavorful and juicy! Before I added the bone marrow. Duck fat fries were out of this world! Hot and perfect level of crispness, (not soft/limp or overly cooked hardness like some fries) and well seasoned. Olives and pistachios appetizer was outrageously good! Order it! Our waiter was friendly, served with a constant smile and made our dinner out a great meal. We’ll definitely return. Cool bar downstairs in the house too!

Found this restaurant on youtube before our trip and it looked like a fun, unique place and all the food looked really good. You can sit outside in their lush gardens, inside with a pub like atmosphere or in the basement bar. We chose the basement bar, which had a cozy pub atmosphere with dark warm wood and a stone fireplace. We sat in a cushy corner booth and ordered lots of bar bites and wine. The atmosphere was perfect and the food so good: duck fries, pig ears, fried olives with pistachios, corn croquettes and mushroom soup. We also ordered a bottle of our favorite wine, Venge (the only bar/restaurant that serves Venge). We reminisced about this experience for some time after, would love to go back.

This is another of our must haves when we hit Napa. We sat inside for the first time - so much charm inside! We celebrated our daughter’s 21st and it was a party. Gluten free was accommodated perfectly. Fish and steak, GF desserts, great cocktails. Outstanding every time.
