I was a little nervous this restaurant would be stuffy and pretentious, being a Michelin Starred establishment , I need’nt have been. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Relaxed but with everything under precise control and staff waiting on your every need. On seating we were asked of any allergies or dietary requirements. I advised that I don’t eat meat but do eat fish and was correctly identified as a pescatarian. We had booked for lunch, for starters I had the asparagus and my wife the celeriac with foie gras. I was concerned with the size of the portions (Will we need a visit to a fast food establishment on the way home? We didn’t). Every morsel was a delight. The flavour, the combination, the presentation all worked in harmony. For mains I had the John Dory and my wife the squab. Both were works of art and gastronomic delights. The whole meal was a symphony of oos and aahs! The food deliver on every level. No I didn’t have to loosen my belt, no the plate wasn’t heaving with food but it left us thrilled and satisfied. I was recommended a white wine and was delighted I took the advice, a Czech wine both crisp and full of flavour. We began our food journey with melt in the mouth savoury meringues as an amuse bouche and a pair of onion and cheddar ultra light and delicate tartlets and bookended our meal with a cheese course. The cheese selection was wonderful with melt in the mouth made in house crackers. (I hate restaurants that serve made in-house agricultural biscuits that are too course and lacking in flavour to enhance the cheese - these weren’t those). The cheese was at room temperature and perfectly ripe and those wonderful crackers along with relish and honey made it a great conclusion to our meal, but wait….. the great coffee that followed was served with petit fours to expire for. Two nougat and two chocolate that were made by angels. I am a fussy fecker but I couldn’t find fault with a single course, surroundings or service, it was a pure delight. Yes, but it cost a fortune I hear you say - well no. We have had substantially inferior meals for close on the cost of our meal in Glovers Alley. It was a special treat, yes, but as a treat it was well priced and value for money.
