A nice Christmas Day meal - without the festivities!!
We went here on Christmas Day for dinner - the food was great as was the service but not very Christmassy! I would have thought more effort would be made for a Christmas Day meal especially as we were with our children! The food was fab - great flavours and very well cooked! Very large portions as well!

Fabulous breakfast! We had the Omelettes, Scrambled egg with buttermilk pancakes and Eggs Benedict. Absolutely delicious, fantastic quality cooked to order.

Nice cool atmosphere in a leafy covered annex in front of the restaurant. Good quality food - we had brunch and the sausages and pancakes were first rate. Service was surly and offhand. This was the luck of the draw as other serving staff were pretty engaging. Would come again and hope we won the server lottery.
Be the first to ReplyEggs Benedict on House Made Cheddar Biscuits - SO GOOD!
This restaurant was an absolute delight! It is on a lovely street, classy outdoor seating is available, and the interior of the restaurant transports you out of the city and into a country home. There are beautiful fireplaces and many striking and interesting decor to look at. French jazz was playing, but not so loud that you couldn’t have a conversation comfortably. The restaurant was spotless, service was quick (lunch on a summer Monday – no reservations needed) and attentive. The best part… the food was delicious!!! I had the eggs benedict on house made cheddar biscuits and enjoyed every bite. I immediately texted friends and family about how much I enjoyed my Friend of a Farmer experience and I hope to visit again soon.

We were looking for a brunch place, and came upon this restaurant, which had a line waiting to go in. They featured indoor seating and outside seating, in a heated covered shed. We opted to be seated outside as there was availability with no waiting. The shed was warm and decorated. The server was friendly and attentive and patiently answered our questions. I ordered pumpkin pancakes with walnuts and my friend ordered apple pancakes. Both were exceptional and came with homemade butter/maple syrup combination. Prices were comparable to restaurants in the area. Highly recommend!

Unfortunately, I visited on a holiday, which required a prix fixe menu with a set price and a required tip add-on. The place was bustling, crowded, and the staff, especially the hostess, was brusque, dismissive, colder to the guests than the weather. The waitstaff didn't seem to have much time to spend at the table with guests, and why should they when their tip was secure. The menu included a list of gins available in the bar, all at the same cost. Ordering a gin martini, I expected to pay the price on the menu for one of the house gins. However, I was charged a higher fee, as the bartender, or waiter, chose Hendricks, with an uncharge. I have nothing but compliments for the food itself, Perhaps, the experience would be better with a hostess and waitstaff less stressed and overworked than on a holiday.
Be the first to ReplyPoor, Freezing Cold Cabin and unsatisfactory overall
Despite having booked in September for our Christmas dinner here, we were allocated to the “cabin”which was a nicely decorated by cold and cramp outbuilding on the Main Street. This should have been made clear to us on booking as would have chosen to eat elsewhere. Food was ok but service was poorer than expected and that cabin was freezing cold, the weather can be blamed but I strongly suggest you eat in the main restaurant of don’t eat there at all. Really disappointing despite looking forward to this meal with my family.

Though I live a block away, I hadn't been to Friend of A Farmer in for 15 years. Since then it has increased in popularity and has improved their menu. The breakfast here recently was very good. We order the corn waffles, the apple pancakes, the eggs Benedict -- all very good and well prepared. The cappuccino was not of the standard of the next door Irving Farm, but the pressed coffee was good. Service was excellent. The restaurant is in a nice old NY setting. Reservations are suggested.

Sat outside on beautiful spring day. Great people watching. Waitress seemed a little preoccupied. Brought drinks right over after taking order. Entrees took quite awhile, while totally forgetting soup. "Oh yeah...sorry". The omelets are basically a disk of scrambled eggs folded over with the fixings inside. Not cooked into the egg. Ingredients were fresh but just not how we like an omelet. White fish and lox platter was a major let down. Tomato was not really ripe, bagel wasn't really a bagel, just a round flat piece of bread with a hole and hard. The brown stuff wasn't cleaned off the edges of the lox, which kinda grossed me out. The 2 tablespoons of cream cheese was not enough for one side of bagel let alone two. I guess I expected more from a place with so many good reviews or maybe I'm just spoiled by awesome Long Island bagels places. Most likely will not return.

The restaurant was a perfect spot for brunch. Charming and unassuming with great food, servers, and background music :). We loved it.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service
We came here for Christmas dinner and we were all very disappointed, the service was very slow and our waiter was very rude. We really struggled to get any service from him, food took ages to arrive and was very disappointed and over priced, my wife found a black hair in her meal, which put us off eating the rest of our meals. Due to these issues we only left a 20 dollar tip. The waiter became very aggressive and threatening towards us to the point the lady behind the desk had to tell him to calm down, he then stood in front of the door and blocked our exit shouting these people aren’t tipping, this really upset my young children, I wasn’t going to be bullied into leaving more of a tip. They also breached the Covid rules by allowing us to eat inside with unvaccinated children, we didn’t realise we weren’t allowed inside at this point. I would suggest that the management look at training their staff properly

Perfect choice for a girlfriends’ reunion brunch in NYC. My friend arrived early to briefly wait in line to be seated. The pandemic has most NYC eateries building little dining cabins on the street outside, and this one was delightfully decorated with farmhouse baskets. Server took care of us and never rushed us even though we gabbed at the table for a couple of hours. My Healthy Farmer egg white omelet came with pommes frites, but you could order fruit. My friend’s pumpkin pancakes looked awesome. Only drawback is the coffee served in a press, which tends to produce a lot of coffee grounds and I ended up with a mouthful. $18 seems like a lot for an omelet but normal for New York. Easy walk from the Union Square metro.
