Little star…
Sometimes I don't understand what the assignment of stars depends on. Here the food wasn't bad but from here to being starred and paying for it as such we pass through the three worlds of Tolkien and beyond. The location is small and uncomfortable, the tables close together make any idea of intimacy unthinkable. The bill is starred, but that's right!! And in fact this is precisely the problem... understanding who gave them these stars!

Like everyone I appreciated the kindness of the staff (who only speak English or Spanish), which is exceptional. We certainly left full and ate well but, nothing incredible, I'm not a food critic but, from a Michelin star I expected to be impressed. The place is aesthetically overloaded with everything but I only saw the ground floor. We won't be returning.

We went to this restaurant as friends and it was a revelation. Upon our arrival we were greeted with kindness and professionalism which, together with the delicious dishes that were served to us during dinner, perfected and contributed to the splendid evening spent there. Not to be missed

Excellent dinner, even with small children they are very kind and attentive to spend a nice evening. Excellent experience, highly recommended

A very good restaurant, located in an area adjacent to the Sliema seafront. The quality of the food is very high, the raw materials are enhanced, increasing their perception. The very small menu (perhaps too small) allows you to try various combinations that are always pleasant and delicately pleasant. Very notable wine cellar. Unmissable in Malta.

An amazing experience, surprising and exciting! Every time I go, it only makes me want to come back more. The staff is incredible and kind and pays attention to every detail! One of my favorite restaurants on the island! Bravo!

This experience was disappointing during my holidays in Malta, so I feel the need to express my sentiment and review. I've been to one star Michelin restaurants in NYC, LA, and Miami. So when I saw this restaurant in the Michelin Guide I was very excited to dine and have my first Michelin European experience. We did the a la carte menu on a Thursday evening. The canapés and the sweet potato scarpinoce was delicious, the dessert goat cheesecake was okay and the dessert cookie and doughnut had just the right amount of sweetness. The main issue, and the reason I am writing this review is for the main course. In our party, two of us ordered the quail and the other the local fish. Apart from the dish fish having a piece of hair, (it looked like a short beard hair?) which as soon as the waiter set the plate down, he had to pick it right back up because we noticed it instantaneously. The two stars for the food category are not for the hair however, because that was not my dish and I did not try it- the two stars are for the quail dish. It was seriously unappetizing. The presentation looked like a parody of what fine dining is and the taste of the quail, did not redeem the appearance of the dish. It just tasted like bland, iron-like meat. The skin wasn't crispy just chewy. Two nubs of dates and two slices of turnip accompanied the plate, and foie gras gravy was holding for dear life trying to save the taste of the dish. Literally, neither one of us who ordered the quail, could even finish it. The female server noticed and asked us if we would like to have another main, but we politely declined, because at that point we weren't hungry anymore for a main dish. The server insisted on their cheese course and we obliged, it was comped and that was kind of her. They also gave us a comped digestif to end our meal due to the strand of hair on the fish. I'll give the service 3 stars because despite the troubles the staff was still kind, however a few seemed fumbly and inexperienced (didn't wipe bread crumbs until 3 courses later, I asked a help on making choice of what to order-he literally said "it just depends if you want meat or fish..." And i'm like-ok? Obviously? Meat and fish are my only two options on the menu. To be honest, we had 3 different servers throughout the night, so it doesn't apply to the blonde female serving us. Furthermore, we noticed some tables receiving more descriptive details on their courses rather than us, we had to ask clarification for some plates. The atmosphere was nice, downstairs is more aesthetically pleasing than upstairs, but I personally enjoyed their music playlist and the decor of the restaurant. I'm not sure if this is how Michelin restaurants are in Europe compared to the states, but since I now live in Italy- i'll make sure to try another place out and compare my experiences before I come to a verdict. Overall, I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend. Apparently there are 6 Michelin one star restaurants in Malta, so if fine dining is what you want to experience luckily you will have other options to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyFine dining with slick service
We had the tasting menu, and it was well crafted throughout. Service was slick, and the wine pairing was well chosen. It isn't cheap, but that reflects the effort that goes into creating a menu like this. Impressive
Be the first to ReplyGreat little restaurant in heart of Sliema
This is a great little restaurant in The heart of Sliema, Malta. It got a Michelin star in April this year and it is easy to see why. We had the taster menu which was excellent, no actual ‘stand out’ dish but every course was well presented and tasted superb. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. At €100 the taster menu is fair value and like most places in Malta there is no service charge, it’s down to you. Would recommend.

We visited this restaurant as we wanted to go somewhere special for our anniversary. We were not disappointed. From the amuse bouche through to the dessert, each plate was a culinary delight - exquisitely presented and delicious. The knowledgeable sommelier advised on matching wines, and this made for a truly memorable meal. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely visit again.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here. They have a Michelin plate, but we have already given the M. star to this fantastic set of food, service and atmosphere. Many thanks for everything to the (excellent) chef and the staff especially the sommelier lady.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food , and exceptional wine selection
The pros : very good food, great attention to the presentation, quick service, super wine list, probably the best in Malta The cons : music is a bit loud at times

The tasting menu was a true pleasure for the pallet. Such a skillful sommelier and a true piece of art in the setting of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little restaurant in Sliema
so I change my reservation multiple times where I basically got to know the manager Ana. thank goodness I found one of my Tourmates, who was also solo-traveling to join me for dinner. to be mindful, there are only two menus,a tasting menu and set menu. we chose the tasting menu which consisted of three course meal, which was excellent. A little charming restaurant in Sliema with good food, good wine, and good service!

One of the bests selections of wines on island and amazing food ! Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Never was a fun of risotto but I just loved it !
Be the first to ReplyVery enjoyable food and wine restaurant.
Great food and very friendly staff. They even figured out a meal to our 9 year old daughter, even though they didn't have a childrens menu. Also they had a massive wine list.

Expected an excellent dinner out at the Michelin star restaurant during our holiday, took my 12 y.o. kid as well to introduce her fine dining. First of all - sommelier has appeared to recommend the wine. Well, good start, asked about our preferences, no wine list was offered though, came back with just 3 bottles of French red, no budget suggestion. Ok, didn’t mind to pay for the good one. But few minutes after the choice was made he came back to let us know that the price for the bottle we’ve chosen was increased by 25%. Never happened to me in any restaurants before. Also every time the wine was being poured into the glasses the bottle was taking away from the table to the bar (?) while the bottle of wine ordered by next table was left on that table. Anyway, the wine was very good as well as food followed by. But what I noticed that we haven’t finished the bottle before our empty glasses were taking away. I thought maybe I was wrong but my friend who was with me confirmed my suspicion and she was surprised as well that the sommelier hasn’t poured the rest of the wine during his last approach as the amount left in the bottle was quite small to leave. That fact was mentioned to the staff member, the sommelier turned out very quickly to tell us in a very protective manner that our bottle is empty, we have finished it and assured that the staff don’t finish customers drinks. Very unprofessional, total disappointment, haven’t left tips for the first time in years

I had been there early in the year and had an amazing meal and was looking forward to another wonderful experience but I have to say this dinner was disappointing. The amuse bouche of carrot was insipid; the octopus starter was nothing to write home about and the main meal, which flavour wise was lovely, was ruined because it was minuscule! The fillet of fish was literally 6 x 9 cm at best and the potato, yes potato was the size of a 2 cent coin. Needless to say we left hungry and with a heft bill .

Fantastic food, these guys know flavours, the octopus was gorgeous and sweet well cooked, the lamb and puddings perfect You have to visit, service spot and n
Be the first to ReplyOne of my best dinners ever
I don't usually review restaurants buy I could not keep this experience to myself. I was introduced to Fernando's by one of my friends. He had been telling me about this Michelin star restaurant for quite some time. Every second of the evening was perfect. From the Maltese Gin and tonic we had before we sat at the table to the small bites offered by the chef, the out of this world risotto and the perfectly cooked lamb (and by the way I'm not a fan of lamb. I ordered it because my friend convinced me to). The wine list!! Oh my God!! It looks more like an encyclopedia of wines. Divided in three volumes with wines from all around the Globe, even England :) (I love everything that is British by the way) I am sure I never saw such a range of wines in one restaurant. The service was also perfect. Every dish was explained into detail. I was also impressed by the small towels in the bathrooms. The nice small bathroom also blends well with amazing experience you get at this restaurant. Highly recommended!! Well done Fernando's!!

I ate here with my two local customers on the island. The food and wine was really nice, as was the service. Really enjoyed my evening here.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but lousy service.
Great praise for the kitchen and the food but unfortunately the service was not on par with the food. Few times we feel like we were at a disadvantage or directly invisible. It was difficult to get in touch with the staff, the instructions on wines were deficient, several times we sat with empty glasses and finally we had to ask for bill 3 times. The staff were in no doubt about our dissatisfaction but seemed indifferent. That is a redo.

Hoping this was going to be a gastronomic delight. One waitress very pretentious, with an air of superiority.Scalded my husband for pouring his own wine.Which made him feel quite uncomfortable. His starter of scallops, was probably not even 1 small scallop, chopped so small he couldn't tell the difference between the scallop and chopped onion, this was all hidden by a layer of what looked and tasted like kettle crisps, all together of mediocre flavour. My prawn pasta was tasty, but the flavours didn't blow me away. The lamb I ordered was OK,not alot of flavour. The beef my husband ordered also lacked flavour, which was accompanied by 1 small potato each ,which was bland. The beetroot wrapped ricotta parcel was a tasty bite. The other 2 waiting on staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyBest Michelin Star Restaurant in Malta
The best Michelin Star Restaurant in Malta by far. We were a bit disappointed regarding high cuisine in Malta after experiencing the insipid and expensive ION menu, but Fernando gave us a new opportunity to reconciliate ourselves with local stars. Fernando menu is just excellent, powerful in creativity and balance, blending local touch with the latest international trends. Laszlo is clearly a cheff to watch
Be the first to ReplyMichelin star restaurant in Sliema
This intimate Michelin restaurant is definitely worth the trip to Sliema. It is quite cozy with two floors and the interior is decorated contemporary . When you walk in, there is a showcase of all the cheeses they offer in addition to their extensive wine list by the bottle and by the glass. I was pleasantly surprised by their book full of local and imported wines.
Wines! I ordered by the glass to get a taste of their different wines from their regions. I had the Cabernet Franc and their Cabernet/Syrah/Cabernet France blend. I very much enjoyed their glass of Cabernet Franc. All glasses come either with a 75 ml or 120 ml pour.
Fernando Gastrotheque has a simple menu but offers a la crate or their 5 or 8 course menu, 75 or 110 Euro respectively. We opted for the a la crate since we had a full lunch.
Their complimentary bread and small bites are enticing and showcases the chef’s culinary techniques. Tonight it included fresh sour dough bread and a beet dumpling along with squid ink crisp bite. These bites are really to tease the palate and to give you expectations of their appetizers and main dishes.
We ordered the charred scallop and sea snails along with Foie Gras Agnolotti for our appetizers. The portion is perfect for one person and both were uniquely presented. The charred scallop and sea snails were barely visible but tasteful with a 3 way cooked artichoke. The artichoke was fried, diced, and blended with the seafood but each element complemented each other perfectly. I especially enjoyed the crunch of the artichoke flakes on top of the seafood. The foie is beautifully presented in an agnolotti. This is the first time I had foie in an agnolotti form and it wasn’t too fatty or overpowering in taste at all, perfect in a bite and I easily ate all of them without feeling like my stomach was full of foie but realistically it was a good portion of foie. First time I had foie in a pasta form with bites, no need for a knife! However, I wish this dish could’ve been more warm.
The main dishes were almost as good as the appetizers. We had the pigeon and the pork. I prefer the pigeon because the meat was so tender and deliciously complemented with aged balsamic vinegar and berry compote. There was no gamey taste at all and I could easily eat two of these small birds. The pork had such a crispy skin that it can easily flake off and crunches in your mouth with every bite. The meat could’ve been a bit more moist but overall it was tasty dish. Also, the pork cannelloni was a bit on the salty side but made with precise technique when wrapped with celery skin.
I couldn’t resist the dessert menu and Ofcourse a part of my stomach is reserved for it. We opted for the most lactose friendly dessert which was the petite fours. We were amazed by the presentation when it came in a small jewelry box, each single bite or drawer held dried florals, coffee beans, and dried leaves. This topped the evening off with some beautiful sweetness.
In terms of service, it was impeccable! Thank you Kristina for helping me make the reservation thru Facebook and accommodating us to the changes with our tours and jetlag. Service is definitely 5 star when they called us a cab to our hotel in Valleta.
Many thanks to Fernando Gastrotheque for this surprise Michelin star experience!
