An arm and a leg cost wise......
The welcome was warm, and bread was generously offered repeatedly. But the waiter was patronising, complacent and not at all empathetic. The subsequent pasta was unremarkable and forgettable. The prices were, however, absolutely memorable. $200+ for three bowls of pasta and one cheapest bottle of white wine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat gluten-friendly options.
Cosy and elegant dining rooms. Excellent service. Spectacular Italian-inspired food. Fantastic pear and pecorino ravioli -- gluten-free, homemade. A beautiful gluten-free bread/loaf or gigantic fresh roll placed in front of me when I expected nothing.
Tuna, grilled on one side with spots of sweet and sour sauce and grilled endive -- melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Refreshing sorbets and delicious small dessert cookies. This is a special restaurant, worth the expense.
Disappointing, mediocre food
We looked forward to visiting Felidia and expected wonderful Italian food. We were surprised by the limited menu, but found enough 2nd and 3rd courses that we’d like. Starting with drinks, the cosmopolitan was a cloudy pink drink with overtones of powdered sugar that I’ve only seen in bad Chinese restaurants. The “lobster broth” with seafood turned out to be a tomato soup with pretty tasteless seafood and occasional pieces of pasta of various shapes. It was poorly seasoned, and as I dislike seafood in a tomato broth, I didn’t eat much of it. The beef entree was overly salted but otherwise not seasoned at all. The beef was served medium rare as requested, but along with the vegetables, were average at best. My husband’s tagliatelle appetizer with duck was slimy and overcooked. His venison chop was so rare it had to be sent back. The Apple crostata dessert was good but the deconstructed cannoli was meh. The wines (a Verdicchio and a Sangiovese) were excellent. Overall, an expensive dinner that was very average.
Be the first to ReplyValentines Day Tale of Woe, with a happy ending
Do you want to experience a restaurant with the rudest manager imaginable ? Meaning world class even other worldly (intergalactic) rude. If so get here as quickly as you can. So here it is , my Valentines Day tale of woe but with a happy ending at another restaurant. Do you object to overpriced prix fixe dinners with limited menus on “holidays”? . I do which is why I searched through numerous restaurants on Open Table and Resy before choosing Felidia which did not note that they would have a prix fixe dinner. At least until my wife and I arrived and we were presented with the dreaded hideously overpriced limited menu. When I pointed out that in contrast to every other restaurant Felidia did not provide notice of this. the manager became argumentative and told me the menu was posted. I then pulled up the Open Table entry and showed him that this information was not posted. Rather than expressing regret or even acknowledging the situation, the manager walked me through a several step process that would have led me to the details of the prix fixe meal if I had scrolled to the very bottom of the screen to the menu tab , clicked for a new screen then scrolled six boxes to the right to find a Valentines Day tab which when clicked now revealed the menu. The manager was so dismissive and rude that we decided to leave. I asked him to refund the money we pre-paid and he agreed. When I suggested he might want to keep a look out for my on line review he then refused to refund the prepaid amount saying that he would not do so because I told him to look for my review (I am disputing the charge) . I later learned that he also notified Open Table that we had not appeared for our reservation. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the food on this occasion but previously found it to be good, but not great or even very good . There is however no meal so epic that one should have to experience conduct this inappropriate. Oh by the way, it wasn’t a total loss , we got a table at Scalinatella , subject of another review, and it was fabulous. So skip Felidia and walk three blocks to a restaurant with great food , wonderful service and a pleasant convivial atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful Service, Ambiance and Cuisine
Relaxing evening with excellent menu selections and wine. Staff wine recommendations were right on. Service was friendly and professional, attentive but not Intrusive. Intimate feel, elegant, yet delightful neighborhood find. Pasta well-prepared as was the salmon and served at requested temperature. Very welcoming and worthy of a repeat experience.
Be the first to ReplyHas decreased in quality from exceptional to good.
This was one of my favorite Italian restaurants in manhattan. Have been there twice in the past 3 months and I have noticed a definitive deccrease in the quality of the cuisine. It’s still a good restaurant, but it used to be exceptional. The menu I find is somewhat more limited. The service is formal but very good. The bread served with a spread of beans and oils is exceptional. The pasta I ordered was served cold and very dry. The vitelo tomato I have had better. The merengue with sorbet also delicious.
Hope they can return to their exceptional quality.
Average and overpriced pseudo Italian food
Italian food is vital and robust and dynamic. This was not. It is a fancy facade and a lot of tables in a small space. Too noisy, absolutely zero acoustic treatment so the space is hard to hear anything. (The waiter had to keep leaning in and asking us to repeat what we said.) There is this trend in food where cuisine is called a certain style or ethnicity because the ingredients resemble some of the basics of that particular cuisine. That does not mean it is authentic or good. Italian food is a reflection of a great and dynamic culture. This restaurant is an americanized version of weird combinations of flavors and textures in the shell of italian food. The options are all overpriced and lacking character. I had the Tuna Cruddo which is a lot of different raw fishes in a bland sauce that obscured the flavors of the different fish. It was OK. Then I had a Ravioli with a pear filling, bland and tasteless. The staff all seemed depressed and disengaged not inviting or excited about the food. In the end it left no impression on me. (I should caveat this by saying we had just spent the last 5 days on holiday eating at some of the best restaurants in NYC.) I prefer Italian food with character and flavor. I would have rather have had a good calzone and salad. I will probably not go back.

being from the hinterlands of arizona, i am not used to the combinations and presentation of food such as at felidia. nonetheless, it was good and an experience. starting with scallops wrapped in bacon, and some grilled veggies. absent the cauliflower very good. next, a carpaccio with fish eggs atop. while the eggs added a needed spice, the meat was virtually tasteless. last, the panna cotta was excellent as was the tiramisu, according to my wife. while the service has been criticized elsewhere, from the receptionist to the wait staff it was well done and accomodating. while not cheap, if you are looking for an elegant dining experience in new york, felidia may be for you.
Be the first to ReplyLike the minor notes on a piano
Been here before and had a great experience. Food is a bit eclectic for my tastes but my wife loves it and they had executed well so we went back. We were the first to enter the restaurant at 5:30 PM immediately when it opened and sat at the bar for a drink. The bartender seemed to not have a care in the world as he sauntered over to ask us for our drink order. Then after he took it, he still felt like he could continue his chatting with the other staff members before he could motivate himself to make our $20 dollar martini's. Finally drinks arrived and we turned out to begin having a nice chat with the two people who sat next to us. After about 15 minutes they requested that we take our table but we had to wait for the bartender again to make one more drink. Finally the drink came and they took us to be seated.... and we ended up being led up stairs to essentially the "Siberia" of Felidia's. It would have been fine but there was a pulsating heater somewhere behind us, like the sound of one window being partly opened in a car. We requested different seating and initially was told "none available"! We had just decided to get up and leave to go across the street when they seated us downstairs. We both ordered the special Veal dish and that came out luke warm at best so we had to send back for reheat and again it came out luke warm +. In the middle of the meal, I realized there was something else bothering me.... and it struck me that not one person working that night had a smile on their face or was in the least bit in an accommodating mood. The atmosphere that was set was like playing all the minor notes on a piano. It just appears that the employees in Felida are not happy campers and that is reflected in the service and the food. I can only believe that management is setting that tone and this is one of those restaurants that though once great, has had it's day.....

Was expecting so much more , from my favorite celebrity chef restaurant. Very expensive and not very good.Polenta the cereal bowl size with wild mushrooms that were dry as a bone, awful. The best was the prosciutto appetizer with fresh mozzarella. Our bill was $538 for 4 with a $98.00 bottle of wine, couple of drinks,2 desserts we shared. The parking was validated and it still cost us $65.00 for 2 hour parking. We are not new to NYC but this was outrageous.Never again, sorry Lidia
