The food was some of the best I've ever had! So delicious and fresh. The reason I'm not getting five stars is because of our service :( Our waitress (whose name started with a K) was very rude and was annoyed with us for seemingly no reason. She had two other tables she was taking care of so I don't understand why she was so upset with us. I'm a server myself which is why I'm confused. I wouldn't come back if she was our server. The kitchen though, is phenomenal!! Thank you etta for the food!
Be the first to ReplyEtta was recommended by a friend, but it did not live up to
Etta was recommended by a friend, but it did not live up to my expectations. The space and service were both good, but the food was very overpriced for what it was. We got the oysters, charred broccoli, diavola pizza, and radiatori bolognese. For example, the bolognese was $24: it had a highly mediocre flavor and the portion size was a small bowl. There are higher end places in the city with similar prices that do both portion size and flavors much better. The oysters were probably the best out of all that we got. Overall I was very underwhelmed with the food. Additionally, it's also always strange and slightly irritating to me when an entire restaurant is pretty much empty and a group is still sat RIGHT next to your table instead of being spaced out better.
Be the first to ReplyFood was excellent.
But the server really wanted us to buy the steak dinner. Almost was pushy but overall he was a great waiter. The focaccia was the best part!! Excited to go back!
Be the first to ReplyReally cute rooftop spot to eat at, but not a place to get
Really cute rooftop spot to eat at, but not a place to get full unless you have money to spend. It makes sense that there are small bites as most folks seem to come here for drinks. Compared to the location in Scottsdale, AZ, I was a bit disappointed in portion size. Ordered the cacio e pepe and grilled beef. The pasta was great, not too salty as some places do it. Unfortunately, the grilled beef was so little food for $47. It was also under the "For the Table" category so I thought the portions would be larger - if not put it in the "Starters" section! We were still quite hungry after but decided to go somewhere else instead of order more. Overall not a bad place, we just had the wrong expectations going in.
Be the first to ReplySeriously the best pasta I have ever had.
Etta is a beautiful two-story restaurant with an outdoor balcony to dine at. To me, the perfect place for date night. We had set reservations prior to our dinner, but I believe you will be fine if not. We ordered the focaccia appetizer to start, and when I tell you that I have thought about this appetizer nonstop since I have left Chicago... It is so crazy good! It's warm and crispy focaccia bread that is served with the most delicious and smooth honey and truffle whipped ricotta. For my entree, I ordered the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, and it was one of the most beautiful plates of food I have ever seen. So simple yet so glossy and elegant. It was incredibly rich and creamy, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Cannot wait until I get to come back.
Be the first to ReplySure, the Food and Ambience were nice.
However, those elements were overlooked by the poor service that my friend and I received. Our waiter appeared to be uncomfortable on waiting on us. My only guess is that he expected us as black women to not tip him appropriately for his service, and subsequently ignored and neglected our table throughout our dinner. it is safe to say I won't be returning to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAfter a couple of years, some friends wanted to try this
After a couple of years, some friends wanted to try this spot back in December and I was in the mood for pasta so we came back for lunch and I was much more impressed this time. It was a weekday lunch so a little more quiet and our server was still attentive and friendly. Booth seating and decor is very nice. Gin drink - would skip, could only taste the gin and even then it was slightly watered down. Ricotta Pillows - delicious, ricotta was soft and the sauce was sooo good. I liked the spiced black walnuts on top and fresh rosemary. Farm Greens Salad - refreshing salad, the apples were really crisp and vinegrette was light Chitarra Cacio e pepe - perfect creaminess and the shaved parmesan on top was. shaved so light so it melted in which was really nice. Pappardelle alla bolognese - was decent but I wouldn't feel inclined to order again DIavola Pizza - absolutely delicious. The pizza is thin, the meat has a kick and the calabrian chile honey was perfect. What I loved even more was the sauce and spice pairings! The giardiniera pepper was amazing - could buy a jar of that home and spread it over everything. Personally, I'd skip the brunch and go to lunch!
Be the first to ReplyEtta is one of the few places where the Yelp reviews were
Etta is one of the few places where the Yelp reviews were not representative of what our experience would be. My friends and I had high expectations given the wonderful reviews, but left greatly disappointed. We made a dinner reservation for 6pm and were seated without a wait. The restaurant is beautiful. Walking in, you can see their food preparation area with the cute pizza oven and tiles. They have a variety of seating options - booths, tables, and bar seating. We started with drinks. I ordered and loved the avec hibiscus & pomegranate spritz with vodka. This drink has a nonalcoholic option and if you would like it alcoholic, you get to choose the alcohol (vodka, gin, tequila, etc). My friends got the baddest boy and that's fetch, which they really enjoyed. For starters we ordered the house baked focaccia and bubbling shrimp. The focaccia was absolutely delicious. The bread was flavorful and airy, but the ricotta and honey whip was what elevated the dish. All of the reviews had recommended the bubbling shrimp. I'm not sure if it was a bad night, but our bubbling shrimp dish was flavorless and watery. Our table agreed that it could have tasted better if the dish was cooked longer for the sauce to simmer to flavor the shrimp. I would not recommend the bubbling shrimp. For entrees, we ordered the Wild Mushroom pizza, Radiatori Bolognese, and Squash Ravioli. The presentations were beautiful and the food looked appetizing, but everyone was disturbed by how all of the entrees lacked flavor. The small serving sizes or prices were of no concern when compared to the shocking absence of flavor in each dish. We didn't want to risk ordering other menu items and left to finish dinner elsewhere. I trust Yelp reviews and I truly can't help but to think that we came on a bad day. Etta has the nice atmosphere, creative menu items, and amazing plating. However, given my experience with the bland food, I cannot bring myself to return. If you're headed to Etta, the only thing I can recommend is cocktails and focaccia.
Be the first to ReplyVery cute atmosphere in a great neighborhood.
Ordered a bunch of items to share and there wasn't one bad dish!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good, went during brunch.
Had a reservation and was sat upstairs near the rooftop. It was cold up there so look away from really enjoying the time. But the service was great.
Be the first to ReplyMy son had his wedding brunch here with his family.
It is unacceptable to serve 7 folks and bring the 8th dish 10 minutes later. the brunch food was mediocre - everyone thought way too salty. Even on the way out - it was "oh yeah, you might want to take the rest of your wedding cake home". I do not recommend for Saturday brunch and they seem not to have sensitivity for a special event.
Be the first to ReplyHas something changed recently? Maybe a new chef? I've been
Has something changed recently? Maybe a new chef? I've been here dozens of times and have loved every single time. I brought friends from out of town recently and everything was, off. The shrimp is different. The bread is different. The salads are different. The pasta is different. And not in a good way. I hope this was just an off night for them. It's literally my favorite restaurant in bucktown.

Service 10 Ambiance 10 Food 10!!!Etta was such a remarkable dining restaurant. The food taste so good it met my expectations. The Cooks were such a blessing to create such savory taste. I discovered this gem from driving through Bucktown. As we set down the Staff was great and our waiter had a full understanding of their menu. After we were given a menu I gave it a glance and then Bam!!! Not much to offer considering what was posted on the Yelp page. But hey that's cool maybe the Chef was scaling back? Ok so we ordered a Pizza and a Potato Oxtail dish off the menu. Now after this great tasting meal was brought out and sat directly in front of me? I thought who ordered from the Kids Menu. My issue was the Portion of food. Boy did we feel cheated. Maybe Etta is facing hard times and every string of spaghetti must be counted- ok no one had spaghetti but for the prices listed on the Menu.....wow such small Portions. Now I'm not saying that my plate should have looked like an "All you can Eat" meal but cheap is cheap. I expected differently coming from Bucktown. Well the portions are adult size in Hyde Park from my experience. Well that's the only issue I have. Now after dining and leaving maybe one should be prepared to grab a few White Castle Sliders to take home....But that's Me...

.. All the food I've tried is excellent. The mushroom pizza is amazing. The bartender Santiago is great and personable. He mixes great and unique drinks!

We came here on March 4th for dinner with family and friends. My parents and I left with great satisfaction. We ordered the focaccia, bubbling shrimp, and burrata to start. We loved the focaccia and were about to get a second order!! We then had the pastas: gnocchi, Tagliatelle bolognese and chimaera cacao e pepe. They did a great job of seasoning the pasta. The pasta was a bit over al dente, and the gnocchi was soft and chewy. I would like to have more on the portion. We ordered the grilled branzino and roast pork feet for the main course. Grilled branzino tasted delicious; it had enough seasoning, and the tartness of tomato confit complemented the dish. The pork feed was giant! Enough to feed four people! It had many condiments: lemon crema, lettuce wrap, herbs, chilis, and pickled cucumber! The spices made the supposed-to-be-heavy dish very refreshing and an extra layer of flavor.
Be the first to ReplyHave not eaten here since before Covid.
Had brunch with friends this past Sunday. The restaurant looks great with an open kitchen and great light. Had a Bloody Mary that turned out to cost as much as a brunch entree and was in a super skinny glass! One had the smashed burger that was good, came with their new crispy potatoes, about the size of a 1/4 cup, lol; another had the huevos rancheros which were tasty; another had a poached egg dish that looked great! I had the wood fired oven wild mushroom frittata in it's own staub cast iron pan. The presentation look great and the server said it's her favorite, if you like mushrooms! the frittata was tasty, but it only had ONE mushroom piece, no more.

The food here was absolutely incredible! I also sincerely enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant- Really cute decor, and amazing vibes! Upon getting there the service was slow and that's why I'm giving it a 4. It was AWFUL but it could've been quicker. We ordered the Focaccia bread with ricotta and honey and I sincerely do not have words for how delicious the spread of ricotta was with the warm bread. I was skeptical because the price was a little hefty for this ($12 for the loaf of bread) but do not skip out on it! So worth it.From there my boyfriend and I both got the breakfast sandwich - Me with sausage, him with bacon. FANTASTIC. I am really picky about how my eggs are cooked and this sandwich was perfect. I don't like a runny egg typically but it paired really well with the sandwich. Do not get me started on the potatoes - I literally almost asked how they made them because the flavor was immaculate. So good. Didn't end up getting any brunch drinks this morning but for sure this is a place to go for early drinks with friends.

What a great place for a rooftop moment! Loved being able to enjoy the outdoors on their second level patio and be above the chaos of the street below. Excellent appetizers and pretty good food overall. It is a bit pricey but the service makes the experience worth it especially when you can enjoy some great weather.

Came in during dinner time at 6:30pm and was seated right away. So nice!I landed on a mushroom appetizer and focaccia. The mushrooms were great just a little acidic but great sauce for dipping the bread into. The focaccia smelled amazing! Buttery and good! It was more charred than I would like but inside was very fluffy. It was so warm. The honey butter paired nicely with it, too! Only two cons was that the menu was very limiting and the place they seated us felt kinda awkward and in the way. They took away a chair and I wish they kept it so I could put my coat out of the way because I was by the aisle and EVERYONE was walking on my coat. The chairs aren't that great for plus size people, too.For the limited menu, few choices sounded good but also some I didn't want and it would only leave one choice. I like to try a bunch of dishes when I go to a restaurant. This might be a super niche thing but I stared at the menu for a while thinking what should I get that will satisfy and fill me. I didn't want to break the bank either. I settled on two apps because I didn't want to have them wait on me too long.Overall, I can see how Etta is popular. They put care into their food and what i got looked good and tasted good. It's def worth trying!! I just wouldn't come back all the time because of the small menu but if it's on your list. Go for it!
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant, cool atmosphere.
5 of us celebrating a birthday! we order the shareables. The waitress said that it was plenty of food. She lied lol. You may end up a little hungry later. The shareable plates is really enough for 1 person. Food was delicious and the wait staff were friendly. Parking is horrid, so i'd uber if you can.

Had such a nice night here! I've been to Etta many times but tonight's visit was made especially great by Santiago!! He was such an exceptional server, very attentive and had such great recommendations. Etta is never a miss, truly just always reliable, but it was nice to have the surprise of such an amazing server. I hope this review gets seen by Santiago and whoever his manager is! He truly made the night - thank you!!

Used to come here almost weekly for the oysters, bubbling shrimp & lumache pomodoro. They have changed their menu/ingredients for all those items or took them off the menu. The bubbling shrimp is not the same, they changed it completely. Really sad I won't get to have it that way again! They also took the lumache pomodoro off which was amazing. Don't think I'll be coming back anymore since those were my go to. Tried the Cacio e Pepe - wasn't very good. Hopefully they bring the old items back, our whole group was very disappointed.
