Worst service and Italian food I have had in NY.
Would sooner buy a pizza off the street than waste time and money at this place. Stay away! !

Food was quite good (lasagna bolognese, linguine with clams) but def not life-changing and these prices are catastrophic. $46 for two desserts, decaf coffee and tea. $25 for a glass of Montepulciano. $8 FOR A CAN OF CLUB SODA. I am sorry but that is not ok. The worst is I feel tricked bc the waiter said they don't have a list of wines by the glass but he could tell me what they had. I ordered the Montepulciano not thinking they would charge DOUBLE the going rate for a glass of this red wine in NYC. Very disappointed and soured what should have been a happy birthday meal.

Just the most delicious chicken parm ever - and such wonderful service. Is it expensive? Yes. But it never disappoints. Ever.

The only reason I could imagine that Elio's gets a lower rating here is the bill, but let me tell you something, a good meal at a fine wonderful establishment, with great service is well worth it. I was let down that their Scarpariello isn't made with seemingly any ingredients, but I'm glad I asked.... I almost ordered completely wrong. It actually really really bothers me that most places make Scarpariello.... Incorrectly in my opinion. I digress; the stuffed veal was absolutely fantastic. The homemade guitar string pasta (I forget what it was in Italian) was also quite fantastic. The sourdough they served should have been warm, but again, so delicious! The drinks were okay and overpriced so just skip that part and save on the bill. Very nice night

Amazing food! We had the butternut squash pasta and the clams - both dishes were beautiful. Possibly the best clams I've ever had. However, we felt rushed by the waiter.
Be the first to ReplyEntering the restaurant there isn't a host stand.
Immediately one of the bartenders stated " go to the manager. " The Food was mediocre, my mate ordered Chicken parmesan it was very dry, served with a side of green beans. The atmosphere was uncomfortable should've been a sign on the door that read " whites only ".
Be the first to ReplyOld school New York Italian.
Packed every night from what I hear, this is a go-to for upper east siders. Extensive pasta menu and interesting appetizers. Yet, I chose the chicken parm bc that's what I always do. No regrets, it was delicious.

After the manager gave me a hug I have nothing bad to say about this astonishing establishment! Gem
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good.
Solid pastas, soups, chicken parm. Simple but effective Italian. There are also dozens of other Italian restaurants in NY with similar or better food. On this Sunday night, the restaurant was packed. (Good for them?) But I don't just mean busy. I mean dangerously packed. I mean this place was a terrifying fire hazard. Getting up and having to go anywhere was like pushing through the pit at a concert. The chairs were basically on top of each other. And the service? At the table it was fine. A little brusque, but the food came out fast. But when trying to go to the bathroom or exit (what a concept!) the staff would come barreling through with hot plates and no concern for anyone else. They'd basically side tackled the guests to get to wherever they needed to go. No apology. No graciousness. It was not only rude but painful. A waiter hit my head with a plate and when I spoke up he said quiet, I'm trying to work. And then walked away. I wasn't thrilled. Whatever they have going on is working - the place was packed, as I said. But you couldn't pay me to come back - and the FDNY might want to check this place out. There's no way their seating arrangements and the amount of bodies they shoved into a small space was legal.
Be the first to ReplyI ordered a bow tie pasta with ricotta cheese.
There was less than a small spoon of pasta in the center and the pasta was over cooked for $33! Salad was very mediocre that cost $25 I would never go back. Very very expensive for nothing.

Came here for an early dinner with some friends by snagging a last minute early reservation after seeing this restaurant recommended on TikTok of all places. We were told as long as we were in and out on 90-100 minutes we would be set. We were seated at a table in the very back and this place is small but loaded with tables so def check your coat at the front of available. The table only ordered specials except for one: gnocchi Pomodoro, Brussels sprout salad, lasagne, and our one "on menu" order of tortellini. The food came out in 20 minutes and was remarkable. The meat sauce in the lasagne was paired with a bit of bechamel and was creamy as all get out. The gnocchi was definitely made in house and the tortellini in Alfredo sauce was super comforting on a cold day. Also ordered for dessert espressos, cappuccinos, tiramisu, cheesecake, and an off menu pear and blueberry cobbler. It definitely is a more upscale place so each head all-in was about $50 each with what we ordered but would definitely come again in a heartbeat.

I dine and wine on a daily basis and know a thing or two on what to expect at a certain price point. This place is pretentious and extremely over priced. The food was decent, but not somewhere I would go back to. They are much nicer, elegant places in better locations you can go without feeling price gouged.

I went here for a meal alone at the bar, per a recommendation from a friend I trust. It's one of his favorite places, and he said the old school vibe would be right up my alley. He was right; the atmosphere was what I was hoping for. The bartender was extremely nice and attentive. The servers were sharply dressed and the place was full of regulars. My food was average. Minestrone (bland) and chicken Scarpariello (ok, nothing special). The latter came with a tiny plate of green beans so I asked for a little half order of spaghetti on the side. (I've had better marinara out of a jar.) I started with a martini and then had a glass of wine (I asked for a list but they did not have one by the glass. I ordered Nebbiolo. Fine, typically dry and not much else.) Now, I must unfortunately echo what so many of these reviews say. I almost never complain about pricing in NYC. It's NYC and eating out is expensive; restaurants need to turn a profit, especially after Covid. The martini was $22. The half side of bad spaghetti was $16 (I've never heard of a chicken dish at an Italian restaurant not being served with the option of pasta). The glass of wine was $24. Again, no list. So not only could I not see the price, I could not see the producer, year, etc. I responded to a verbal list of "Nebbiolo, Super Tuscan", etc. To me, this was the biggest insult of all. They know what they are doing. That price is on par with a curated wine bar, where they provide sommeliers and pairing options. For one of the only times in my life, I left a restaurant feeling taken advantage of.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous spot.
Food, service, ambiance are all A+. Celebrity sightings galore. Love this spot!

I have dined at this establishment a number of times, not by my own initiative, but because i was invited and had to go. Elios reminds me of a sadomasochistic club that existed in ny in the 70s 80s called hellsfire club . the staff at hellfire were as rude as rude could be and if you didnt like it, they would beat you, or worse yet; pee on you. The clients at Hellfire were pretty much masochistic and couldnt wait to be treated like shit. Elios is the same, an arrogant staff, holier than thou managers, food that sucks and a whole lot of people that love to be treated like shit. Maybe if there was some sexual aspect to the restaurant as there was in Hellfire club it could be worth visiting.....but nah going to Elio will make you not want to have sex for years. Its the most overrated, overpriced, shit hole that exists in Manhattan. But if you are a masochistic slave type upper east sider, its definitely the place for you
Be the first to Replyliterally a hole in the wall.
the best & most authentic italian food i've ever had! the service is amazing as well. no matter what you get, you cannot go wrong here. top tier

Never before have i ordered a chicken parm that didn't come with some pasta. You literally pay 30 some odd bucks for just a piece of chicken, sauce, and cheese. On top of that i then ordered a side of marinara spaghetti. $15 for a small plate of spaghetti and plain ol tomato sauce. Ridiculous. Save your money, go somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant!! Staff is top notch.
Food is excellent. Atmosphere is just right.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is hard to review.
I have never had a bad meal here but the prices rival a Michelin star restaurant, which this place certainly is not. The alcohol prices are extremely high vs the quality. The atmosphere is that if a neighborhood restaurant, so the pricing does not match. They also really pack you in so it feels very crowed X too loud at times. If the food prices were 20% lower x the alcohol prices were not ridiculous, this could have been at least a 4 star review, if not 5.
Be the first to ReplyIt's not a place for the top 10 list.
...It's not a place that all the "food experts" will write About and will kiss the chef a**.....But it's a very good food neighborhood's restaurant with low key atmosphere, excellent service and care for the customers which mostly seems regulars .If you around ,it's a very safe bet.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give zero stars I would give it none.
The host was so snotty. He pretended that they were booked and finally seated us outside. Even though there were mostly empty tables inside and outside. Obviously he does not own the place or he would have smiled and seated is right away. For 400 dollar dinner I expect better service and better food. The salad had wilted lettuce and the fish was dry and overcooked. I am only sorry that we sat down and ate here. They should take a serious look at the staff and check their attitude. i have eaten there a few times before with my friend who dines there all of the time. They treated me so differently and didn't recognize me. I guess they decide who to be nice to and who to give good service to. Bad idea when your food is mediocre and your restaurant is 3/4 empty.

Sorry but what is the big deal about this place other than to people watch? The food was crappy and totally overpriced. The guy who runs the place has an attitude. Broccoli rabe tasted like it was cooked in chemicals. Waiter said he'd comp our dessert because they messed up my friends...which he did not. Worst Italian dinner I've ever eaten in NYC. Just don't do it.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a mixed review.
The food was tasty and delicious. The staff was decent. However the pricing was on par with a Michelin star restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWe were seated outside on the street.
ย I guess I liked this restaurant better before COVID. ย It was most fun to sit inside and observe the scene of occasional celebrities and mostly privileged upper east siders by "regular , down to earth middle class people like my ย women friends and me. I understand the waiter had no patience for 4 women in their seventies asking a million questions and some wanting to order minimally and just get a drink and feast on the crusty bread. The waiter rushed us and became annoyed when asked to repeat what was in the special salad. What was justifiably wrong was not giving us a wine list. When I order a glass of wine, I want to know the price in a place like this as a glass can be 50 dollars. The grilled shrimp was delicious but my friends chicken paillard ย was like leather. I thought the waiter was rude and was obvious about his having to wait on 4 older women(although we look pretty damn good for our age). We're thin, in shape, wear hair extensions and fix up our face now and then. Back to the food, ย the bread was delicious. However, the restaurant thinks it's all that and a bag of chips. way over priced. ย I spent 90 dollars and walked out hungry. . I went home and heated up my low calorie homemade chicken Milanese. My other friend went home and ate oatmeal cookies, pretzels and ice cream. ย I'll never go there again. ย Back to the wine. I realized we were so intimidated by the waiter. We were afraid to ask for the price of a glass of wine or ask to see the wine menu. And another thing, my friends love the bread but only eat the crust. When they asked for more bread, they came with more bread and told us this was the last of the bread in the whole place. We were four women and were given 4 slices of bread. Is it too much to ask for a few more slices?

This place is as Upper East Side as it gets - in every respect. If you're considering going here, you already know what that means. You'll find all the standard Italian-American fare. Food is exceptionally tight, and that's hard to manage over a menu this deep. The specials are also often quite good. I hate to say it, because I want to like this place; but I ding two stars for the price point. For what it is, the $$$ premium just isn't worth it.
