Best Tacos Outside Mexico!
I stopped in for lunch with my sister, at her suggestion as I am from out of town and wanted good Mexican fare. The server said they were known for their margaritas and tacos so I took him at his word and, boy, was I not disappointed! I ordered a traditional margarita and the beef tacos. The tacos were beyond good - the meat was tender, the taco had a light crisp and I couldn't stop from devouring them. The margarita was perfect - fresh and cold with just the right balance of lime and tequila. The atmosphere here is playful and warm. This is the perfect lunch spot in the Distillery District for anyone wanting killer Mexican food!
Disappointed
Nice ambiance but the food is bland, small portions and expensive. Not worth it. You’re better off going to other restaurants located in the Distillery.
A perfect day
Food was great and Carol is a great server. We look forward to our next visit. After a horrible experience at nearby Irene, we were very happy here.
Amazing dining experience
Absolutely amazing food that was served quickly. Staff were also lovely. The atmosphere in the outside area patio is great too.

What a fun atmosphere outside on the patio with the mariachi band playing. The house made guacamole is a must and a couple cold margaritas and beers are perfect on a hot day in the city . Service by Andy was very good. Thank you.
Great patio and amazing decor inside! Huge tequila
Great patio and amazing decor inside! Huge tequila selection at the giant bar. The original margarita was really good, perfect lime & salt mix. We had the Tacos Al Pastor and the Birrias. Small but tasty.
I came here with my wife while on vacation in Toronto.
We decided to eat here based on the very lively ambiance of the restaurant. The staff was very friendly. All the food was made quickly and was delicious. The prices were a little on the pricier side but definitely worth trying!

I came here during a weekday afternoon where the restaurant was only half full. I mention this because I came with a large group (14 people) and they refused to split the bills individually, a common practice at many other establishments. Part of the problem seemed to be that the server was inexperienced and came off a bit annoyed at times. I have been here a few times in the past so it really soured my view of the restaurant. Another point I should mention is that one of the bartenders was doing some unhygienic things. He had prepared some cocktails in anticipation of happy hour and to taste his creations, he was taking the straws out of the glass and licking the bottoms. One of my companions spotted him doing this twice. Anyways, the food as usually was solid. I ordered their pulpo and chorizo and it was cooked well with a tasty sauce. Our table shared a few chips and guacamole bowls and there were no issues there. Props to the kitchen for a solid service. Overall, the experience made us regret coming here, especially considering that there are other restaurants in the vicinity and great Mexican restaurants in Toronto.

This place is gorgeous and such a good option if you want to have a great Mexican dinner at a restaurant with a fantastic aesthetic. Huge patio, tableside guacamole, and so many food options

We called in and were able to be seated which was amazing as it was a busy holiday Monday. We shared tacos and they were very tasty. The decor is stunning and it has a great ambiance. The churros were a treat from the restaurant and were superb.

The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic and is in a great location--definitely a nice spot for a night out. The hosts were welcoming and efficient, which set a positive tone right away. While the servers were attentive and offered feedback on the menu, the service felt a bit rushed. The food satisfied my hunger, but unfortunately, it lacked flavor and felt pretty mediocre overall. With such a stunning setting, I was hoping the food would match the vibe.
It was good but WAY too expensive.
I'm not sure how this happened but I spent $50 for three chicken flautas (plus one free because it was Tuesday) and a Mexican soda. Waitresses were great and the restaurant was clean, but noisy though I guess that's the vibe they're going for. Would not come back simply because the price is ridiculous.

So you are touring the distillery and want a nice ambiance, great outdoor seating. Inside was nice too but just seemed a bit cramped. Waiter seemed nice and tried to be attentive, but really didnt go out of his way to accommodate. Ordered the guacamole which to way too long to get delivered: not sure why all the person did was mash the ingredients already in the bowl. No chips or anything offered while waiting. Had the fish, shrimp and beef tacos. Fish were definitely the best, though battered. Beef nice portion but bland. Shrimp were bland and skimpy compared to others. None had flavorful sauces inside or on the side(!?) So maybe nice place to hang and have some drinks, basic Mex "theme" food...
Horrifying Experience at El Catrin
I had one of the most disturbing and humiliating dining experiences of my life at El Catrin in the Distillery District. What was meant to be a simple evening out turned into an absolute nightmare, thanks to the completely unprofessional and aggressive behavior of the staff. Midway through our meal, we were abruptly asked to leave by the host and several staff members — no warning, no explanation, just hostility and pressure. It felt aggressive and humiliating, like we were being physically and verbally pushed out without cause. I was absolutely shocked and shaken. When I tried to speak with the general manager, Doug, he gave a vague excuse that did nothing to justify how we were treated. Meanwhile, Earl, the manager, stood by and watched passively, offering no support or accountability. The complete lack of professionalism was staggering. This doesn’t seem like a Canadian welcome — it was cold, disrespectful, and deeply embarrassing. This wasn’t just bad service — this was public mistreatment and humiliation. If you value respect, dignity, or even just a basic level of hospitality, I strongly urge you to avoid El Catrin. What happened to us was unacceptable, and I hope no one else has to go through the same.
Well worth a visit
Very casual, welcoming and with a great vibe, we really enjoyed this restaurant. We started with the house made guacamole prepared at the table and Helen had a cracking salad while I thoroughly enjoyed a quesadilla. Fantastic server, great cocktails!
Gord and I had supper last evening at El Caltrin.
It was really hot and humid on the patio and the constant mist helped. We started with a Sangria de la Casa (red wine, guerra vermouth, pressed juice, fresh fruit). Gord had Atún Ceviche (ahi tuna, watermelon, guajillo, lime, cilantro, radishes). I had Pollo Quesadillas (adobo chicken, quesillo, pico de gallo). Both were tasty. It was weird, though, because his came out about 15 minutes ahead of mine. So he was finished when I just got started. Josie was our server and she was friendly and helpful.
Mexican Lunch (4/5)
Friends hosted us and we enjoyed our Mexican lunch. The restaurant is located at The Distillery in the Historic District. The restaurant looked deserted on the exterior but upon entering, et voila, it was packed, busy and buzzy. Service was friendly and fairly prompt, and the food was decent.
nice atmosphere and appetizers
nice cocktails and nice appetizers for a snack! waiters were attentive and friendly, great atmosphere! gluten free options were plentiful but it wasn’t clear what was in a shared fryer/grill or not.
Authentic
Wonderful outdoor patio with authentic food and great service. Didn't have a reservation but slid our party of 5 in without issue even though packed. Octopus was cooked perfectly and try the black hot sauce.
Great place, food and service. Fire pit on patio turned on on a warm, sunny day.
Visited June 12th for lunch. Food, drinks and service were great. I have been there several times. One odd thing this time - we were on the patio, close to the fire pit. It was a very warm, sunny day. Misted water was coming down, which was good. About an hour into lunch, the fire pit was lit. It became extremely warm next to it. It seemed odd that it would need to be turned on then. Several tables - including ours asked the server why it was turned on and could it be turned off. She said she checked with the manager and was told once it was turned on it couldn't be turned off. That makes no sense. It wasn't necessary and took away from an otherwise excellent experience.
amazing margaritas!!! we got the flight and all four
amazing margaritas!!! we got the flight and all four flavors were outstanding! Salsa was delicious as well!
Had chicken tinga flautas & Baja fish tacos.
The tacos were unbalanced with too much sourness but the flautas were pretty tasty. At these prices I expected more though. Also we sat outside & there was a huge fire going for a long time, though it was 27 degrees & sunny, so that wasn't pleasant.
"Managers" ganging up on customers to protect their hyper sensitive staff
I gave 2 stars - that is for the food since it close to authentic Mexican dishes served in local restaurants in Mexico. The poor rating is for the staff. Dont get me wrong, the servers are good. It is the receptionist and "Managers' Im referring to. Was complaining a bit about the table given to us for a reservation I booked more than 2 weeks ago and wanted her to give me another option but she kept on talking saying she cant do anything, blah blah while not listening to me and providing other options. Music was loud so I thought I needed to raise my voice a bit with the question " can you accommodate our request, yes or no?" And all of a sudden, her tone is "you cannot speak to me that way, im calling my manager". Was surprised so I didnt say anything and waited until 2 "Managers" came over to talk to me, the lady was nice but a little condescending, but at least she gave me an option to wait for an hour to be seated and everything settled. But the other "Manager" all of a sudden said "You cannot scream at my staff like that" in a condescending tone - I was just surprised to encounter a hyper sensitive receptionist in a highly busy restaurant who complains to her Manager about every little disagreement with customers coming in to dine at this restaurant and comes up with a story of a customer "screaming" at her. Maybe she doesnt know the meaning of the word scream. She will know if I actually scream which I didnt. That's all Im saying. Beware of the hyper sensitive receptionist and Managers ganging up on you after the fact.
They should be ashamed of themselves.. Tourist trap crap!
I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that when you ask for salsa, the waitress has no idea what you're talking about. It goes downhill from there..Prices are insane for tiny portions. Ceviche is served in a very small ramican its not very tasty and has barely any fish in it..corn chips taste stale. THE main lamb is served all chopped up and over cooked. Again, minimal flavor, no sides, not a veggie in site served with warm tortillas, no salsa hot sauce, nothing dry, disgusting meat. Flautas are filled with ground up chicken same consistency as cat food with and odd flavour we ate one of 3 and the waitress didn't even ask us if there was a problem..in photos I've seen here this is supposed to have cheese and lettuce and tomatoes on top well that was barely there.. prices are insane for absolute crap.. guacamole looks good. That is it..Don't waste your money ..Go for the drinks and atmosphere.. but there are much better places to be in Toronto. Over $200 for 2 people.

They have a beautiful restaurant seating both inside and outside. It took us about an hour to get a table when we tried to walk in on Victoria's day holiday on Monday. The food was alright i'd say. We got the chicken flautas as well as chips + salsa to share. Needed more flavoring. The Margarita flight was delicious but costed about 50 bucks. Overall I enjoyed the ambiance and vibe of the place. The servers are also very kind and friendly.

They have a special vegetarian menu which I really appreciate! The food was excellent and patio vibes were amazing! Our server was super friendly too! Highly recommend
One of the favorite places in Toronto
Pleasant, exceeded expectations, good atmosphere, good music, it is a place that transports me to the beach area of my country
Hip Place for Comida Mexicana
Pleasant place to eat and drink. Nice rustic venue. Great tacos. Striploin and pork chops delicious. Their Guacamole is outrageous. Good service staff always reaching out to refill. Just entertainment dining.
We stopped in to El Catrin on a walk past.
The patio looked interesting so we tried it. Menu looked interesting as well, but the fools was terrible - and WAY overpriced. Had a pitcher of red sangria as drinks. No entrees seem to come with anything. Shrimp Adobo is just shrimp. No guacamole, no pico, no salsa, no Mexican rice - nothing. Everything can be added at extra cost. My wife had Tlayuda Oaxaca. I had the Baja Tortillas. There is no hint of flavour in either of these dishes. Perhaps salt. The Tlayuda had a hint of refried beans but they were burnt to the crust. Flour crust couldn't be cut with a knife. The Baja tacos were breaded deep-fried halibut. Replace the rock hard tortillas with chips and you'd have greasy Fish-N-chips. Did I mention, there wasn't a hint of Mexican flavour, zing or anything. Also, the portions are tiny, tiny, tiny. In fact, the server outright asked if I wanted to order an extra taco (at extra cost of course) because the portions are so small. Honestly, I can't see how they get repeat business. My best guess is they're banking on the Distillery district and ambiance. That IS what drew us in anyway. For real Mexican food though, go elsewhere. We tried it, didn't like it. Won't be back. This place is terrible.
Great!!!!!!!!! I got the gorditas and they were good and
Great!!!!!!!!! I got the gorditas and they were good and pretty authentic (loved the masa) !! Not usually a tinga fan but I thought it was great too. Guacamole was good too! Also the hibiscus. Service was really nice too :) Only minor complaint was that the sauces weren't spicy but what else can u expect around here
We were walking through the Distillery District and
We were walking through the Distillery District and stumbled upon a super cool alley with funky lights, and as we stopped to look, salsa music allured us down the alley into the coolest restaurant I've been into. The music was 10/10 and the margaritas were 10/10. We didn't have any food, but the atmosphere and the drinks alone were enough to make us want to come back.
always good food and drinks
we stopped here on a warm winter day during the winter market for outdoor drinks and apps. the photo is of the table made guac and nice drinks that we got. the people ordering food were also receiving amuse buche which is always a nice treat. they had what looks like amazing margarita flights, as every table had one, i'm too much of a light weight to manage one. very friendly service and a beautiful seating area inside and out.
Ambiance: (5 stars) Large ceilings, lots of wood.
There is music playing in the background. They got tequilas that are 250$ an ounce. Overall I would come here for a drink, and skip on the food. Service: (5 stars) Very fast, a few minutes after ordering it was already ready. Food: All the meals are around 23. For steak it is closer to 40. Corn is ok. Expensive for what you get Baja tacos (2.5/5 stars)- not a lot of flavour, just deep fried. Enchiladas Verde (2/5 stars) - brunch item. Little flavour, the taste of the tortilla is the only thing that you really have taste. Birria tacos - (2/5 stars) - the tacos come with a liquid gravy on the side, otherwise they would be very dry. Limited flavor. Quesadillas gringa - (4/5 stars). The only thing which has any taste.
Delicious time had by all!
Had a brilliant time thanks to Francesca, our brave hostess who de escalated a very irate and rude customer. Her quick thinking and patience was truly appreciated! Our server, Christi, was just as fabulous, making sure to check in with us! The food was delicious as always! Really impressed with the Tacos al Pastor! A must try! One of our favourite places to dine!
Excellent Mexican food!!
Amazing food! We love Mexican and agreed this is now our favorite Mexican place in the GTA. The guac was made table side and was fresh and tasty. The fish tacos, the steak and the tacos de papa were all excellent. As well as the churros! Portions were large and our server was average. We will go back for the excellent food!
I love El Catrin, for any special occasions.
Great food and drinks, beautiful patio with heatings. Indoor is so romantic. The drinks are delicious and unique. My favourite is Mayan, it's lightly sweet, balanced with tamarind sour and mexican spices! Loved it. The esquites are out of the world !!! Warm and smooth yummmm... mouth melting. The love guacamole steals the show plus it is delicous and so authentically chunky. Being vegetarian I am pretty happy with the options available to me. Totally worth it.

Well this place is very pretty with different kinds of seating and a very pretty atmosphere. That's kind of the only nice thing I can say about this place. The service just wasn't there we sat down and was forgotten took forever to get our food and drinks. Our waitress I feel ignored us we got better service from the busboys our waitress forgot to give us our drinks or completely forgot some food items. Same with the table next to us. While we saw her constantly going to other tables with her undivided attention. Prices were high considering how small everything was.Good thing I don't live there lol.
Good and tasty
A very nice restaurant in the Distillery district of Toronto. A lot to chose from on the menu, spicy and tasty. That goes for the drinks as well, their Margaritas are really good. Service was good, very spontaneous and fun. Not too expensive as well.
Great Restaurant
I had a great time. The food is excellent!
