Still our favourite restaurant in London! Dinner by Heston takes historic recipes dating back hundreds of years and moderizies them to today's fine dining standards. The restaurant's two Michelin stars are very well deserved, as the food is creative and truly delicious. Appreciate not only the unique point of view, but also the approach, which is not overtly serious or staid. In a city where tradition and formality can still dominate fine dining, Dinner by Heston is a breath of fresh air. The wine list is serviceable, but could use some editing and additional depth in certain areas. Service has always been hospitable and friendly, certainly professional and attentive but also human. Enjoy the atmosphere, which is luxe, yet open and airy. Worth a visit!Atmosphere- Modern luxe that eschews fussy formality - there are no white table cloths. Open space with updated design and open views unto the kitchen.- Pleasant amount of activity, has a pulse without being boisterous.- Soaring ceilings and large windows with nice views unto Hyde Park.FoodThe menu concept is quite unique here, with each dish taking its cue from historic recipes. Though each, of course, is a fully modern dish without fuss or gimmickry. Execution is very strong, and dishes are presented with polish. In particular, we found the proteins on this visit to be perfectly prepared. We enjoyed:- Plum Meat Fruit (spiced red wine, chicken liver parfait - £23.50): Amazing creativity in presentation, the fruit gel surrounding the parfait always compliments well. An unctuous, satisfying dish.- Earl Grey Tea Cured Salmon (pickled lemon salad, gentleman's relish & sorrel - £22.00): This visit the dish seemed a bit different, with less prominent tea flavour. Nice, but may try something different next time.- Venison & Pickled Cherries (braised red cabbage gel, grilled red cabbage & pickled cherries - £48.00): A difficult protein to master, and here it's done exceptionally well. The meat was surprisingly moist and tender. A bold, flavourful choice for the colder months. Excellent!- Duck & Turnip (buttered black turnip, turnip cream, truffle & civet of duck - £46.00): Duck was also cooked perfectly; moist, with well rendered fat. Would have no hesitation to order again.- Tipsy Cake (spit roast pineapple - £18.50): A house specialty and MUST ORDER. A touch sweet from the warm custard at the bottom, but nicely offset by the roasted pineapple. A favourite!- Brown Bread Ice Cream (salted butter caramel, pear & malted yeast syrup - £17.50): Gooey sticky carmel dominates this dish, though it's not particularly sweet. This dessert is good, but not incredible.BeverageWe began with a glass of the 2012 Moet & Chandon Grand Vintage Brut (£18), a great choice for by the glass consumption and quite reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the full wine list is not presented online. While the list has broad coverage across regions, it could use more depth in certain regions (including in price, producer). That being said, it's not hard to find something agreeable. With our meal, the 2013 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe 'La Crau' CdP (£139) paired quite nicely though it would have been nice to get a stronger vintage. To conclude, the tea selection is not to be missed. Personally, I quite enjoy the Silver Needle Tea (£9).Service-Affable and very attentive.-More personality than some other high end London venues, felt welcomed and warm.
