Da Toscano New York Reviews from The Last Year
Such a cute restaurant I sat at the counter with my mom and
Such a cute restaurant I sat at the counter with my mom and it was really fun to see the food being created in front of us! We started with the braised artichokes (9/10 delicious and the breadcrumbs were a nice added crunch). I also got the La Violetta cocktail which was their take on an aviation (10/10 a beautiful cocktail and a perfect mix of sweet and refreshing) For entrees, I ordered the calamarata which was their take on a carbonara (10/10 it was so good! The noodles were definitely cooked Al dente. Also the onions were in big pieces which I loved). My mom ordered the tortellini and I tried one but the balsalmic wasn't for me but she liked it more than mine so it worked out! (8/10) For dessert, we shared the apple olive oil cake which came with Dulce de leche and cinnamon Chantilly (9/10 it was really good but not as apple-y as I was expecting! The Dulce de leche was really sweet but it contrasted well with the cake and Chantilly!) Not a traditional Italian meal but so worth it!
Food was okay, decent presentation and ambiance.
I got punched so hard in the head by the waiter at the end of my meal that my glasses fell off a little, even though I was not moving my head at all. We still gave a 15% tip despite literally getting assaulted, and the bartender stopped us after looking at the bill and asked us what was wrong. We tried to be polite and leave as soon as possible before any other incidents occurred. However, she then proceeded to tell us that "in New York, it's customary to give a 20% tip minimum." They're lucky we're not suing for a tort, let alone a difference of $1. It's honestly so embarrassing for them to be acting so broke, we will not be back.
Amazing experience! 10/10 recommended
We saw this place on tiktok and wanted to give it a try and we were not disappointed! We didn't have a reservation , so we walked in and we were able to sit at the bar for full service. We started with the rosemary bread with butter - perfect app! We had tortellini and garlic stuffed chicken. I can't stop thinking about the delicious tortellini. Would definitely recommend for dinner in the village!
BEST pasta I've ever had in my life!! We constantly come
BEST pasta I've ever had in my life!! We constantly come back here any time we go to the city. Service is amazing, ambiance is cozy and inviting. Try to get reservations in advance as it is usually booked. - Warm Rosemary Focaccia 10/10 - Italian Sausage Orecchiette 10/10 - Garganelli Verde 10/10 - Grandpa Lusk's Cheesecake 10/10 Cocktails: - Minetta Sour 10/10: perfect amount of sweetness. Not overpowering. - Sail Away, Sail Away 10/10: I get this drink every time! It's delicious love the lychee taste. My 10 month old son has a ton of food allergies and the manager was kind enough to come to our table and show us the different kinds of pastas they have to try to accommodate our son. We found one that worked for us and our son who usually never gets to eat at restaurants was able to finally have a plate of pasta with red sauce. He enjoyed every last bit of it. We are so thankful and happy our son will get to enjoy dinner with us every time we go. They also accommodate our 2 y/o daughter with pasta with red sauce and I swear it has to be the BEST red sauce we ever had. Definitely worth a try!
Mixed food experience. Horrible general manager.
I live in NYC and dine out 3 times a week. This is my first Trip Advisor review. The good- Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I think it was his first night of work. All the service was very good. Wine glasses promptly filled, plates cleared, pacing good. Our first courses were delicious. Highly recommend the Little Gem Salad (it was heavenly) and I tasted my companion's Agnolotti with Lamb Neck, which was also delicious and filled with soft braised meat. My companion was satisfied with his Duck breast entrée, which I did not taste. The not so good - My entrée was the "Pappardelle with Venetian Duck Ragu and Shaved Foie Gras" which was $33. There was almost no meat at all in the ragu - less than one small fork full total in the entire dish, and not enough to add any flavor or texture to the dish. The foie gras was not shaved. It was grated into snow on top of the dish, which left no texture at all, and added no flavor to the dish. The dish was essentially a plate of noodles covered in a bland red sauce with no meat. Very disappointing for $33. I ate less than half. After our meal was cleared and the waiter returned to offer dessert, I mentioned my disappointment, but did not ask for anything in return. I was just offering feedback. His reaction was appropriately apologetic. The horrible - The next thing we know there is a person at our table who does not introduce herself. She launches into a lecture about what "braised ragu" means. Apparently she came to our table to educate me about how I didn't understand what I ordered and explain that it was my fault that I didn't enjoy it. I told her that I am quite familiar with the term ragu, and that while there may have been braised meat in the pot, it wasn't on my plate. She continued to argue with me. I told her I wasn't going to argue with her. She stormed away and next the chef came out. By that point, I was no longer interested in talking about the dish, and only interested in telling him that his "general manager" (we had to ask who she was) doesn't understand customer service. If she came to our table and offered a simple and sincere apology for a disappointing dinner we would have come back to this restaurant and ordered something else the next time. In fact, that was the conversation we were having before the general manager ruined our evening. I didn't need a refund or even an offer for dessert (which we would have declined). In the end, they did remove most of the pasta from the bill (but only $30 - which was strange). We tipped the waiter on the full cost of the bill including the removed pasta (unlike the general manager, we understand how to behave in restaurants). We won't be back.
Absolutely the very best homemade pasta I have ever had!
Absolutely the very best homemade pasta I have ever had! The flavors were delicious the pasta noodles light and tender and beautifully presented. I was fortunate enough to stumble across this hidden gem while waiting for a friend to join me at the theater next door. The manager Michelle was incredibly accommodating she managed to squeeze me in for a drink before the show and my friend and I returned to dine when the show is over. Will the bartender was a pleasure to chat with. The food, the ambiance, the personalized attention, will leave a lasting impression and remain part of a special celebration between my friend and I. Definitely a place to return to and that I highly recommend.

Da was simply amazing! I can't believe I didn't take a picture of the pasta because it was out of this world. You have to get the orecchiette. The oysters were so flavorful and the bread and was incredibly soft and wonderful. Must try NY Italian.
I don't take the time to post reviews usually.
However, in this case, I want to leave a review! First, the food was absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was delicious. There were also some exotic / interesting dishes that my friends and I had not had before - and it was amaaazing (we felt daring), it ended up being tasty and as really really good. Ambiance: the place is small and cozy - sometimes gets a little louder when very busy - either way - it's a feel-good time. Great lighting, great staff from the min you walk into the store. It's just a great spot with yumm Michelin star food. Service: Above and Beyond. Great. After the restaurant, I got home and realized I had lost my diamond bracelet. I called Uber, my friends, and then finally thought to call the restaurant. I have never had an experience this great and so kind. The manager (I think her name was Michelle) was empathetic and said, "Omg, I'm so happy you called. It's right here! She said she'd put it in the safe for me. It was in the safe for 3 days before I was able to get there to pick it up. The place was hopping when i finally was back there , but I was treated with patience and kindness (and no frustration or annoyance after a few ph calls ..). I'm wowed by the whole place and the guy that went downstairs to the safe, so professional and sweet. The place smelled sooo good, and the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked scrumptious. It would have been absolutely great if I could just sit down and eat, but it was completely full. I can't wait to go back with my friends and with my family! (Many fancier spaces with major hype do not have food tast like this). Looking forward to delicious food very soon!
Very good.
We sat at the chefs table where we were able to see them preparing the apps. The food was very tasty, not the best but quite good. The wine we had was funky (but that's on us for ordering it - it wasn't bad just different). It took far too long to be helped when we sat down. Took about 20 minutes to be helped. But we weren't in a rush, and after that it was all good.
Delightful carpaccio! My favorite restaurant in the city.
Service was thoughtful, ambiance was cute, and food was flavorful. I really enjoyed my experience and will come back the next time I'm in town
Managed to snag a reservation for the chef's counter seats
Managed to snag a reservation for the chef's counter seats on a Friday night. Wish I had come with a bigger group because there were so many things that I had wanted to try on the menu. After much consideration, we decided on the Octopus Carpaccio, Pappardelle, and Agnolotti. Everything was absolutely delish! You can taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients used for each dish. The pappardelle was my favorite. The pasta had the perfect al dente texture and the sauce was very flavorful. The lamb in the agnolotti was soft and tender. The gravy was good at first but got a little salty after a few bites. Our server Marina was very helpful and attentive. She provided her recommendations and came around to ensure we were enjoying our meal. This would be a great place for a date night, but I would try to get seats at the tables as it was a bit tight at the chef's counter.
Made a last minute reservation for the Chefs Counter right
Made a last minute reservation for the Chefs Counter right when they opened on a Friday night. It was pretty empty when I arrived and when I got seated at the Chefs Counter, realized it was really hot with the open kitchen to the left and some mini toaster oven right next to my seat. I don't think the whole area is that hot but the seats directly next to the mini oven definitely were. I then asked the hostess if I could sit at the bar instead and they were very accomodating. Got a couple glasses of red and started off with the Rosemary Focaccia (5/5- I love all bread and this one was a must. My bf doesn't particularly like bread and he even ate 2 pieces) and Braised Artichoke (3.5/5- this was also delicious but too rich for our liking. After a few bites I felt a bit iffy but it was definitely tasty). Then for our entrees, we got the Pappardelle (5/5- star of the night. Perfectly cooked noodles, sauce portion was just enough and decent portion) and the Tortellini (3/5- the balsamic was too sweet for what I prefer on a pasta dish. Compared to the Pappardelle, it just wasn't giving me the wow factor. I would not re-order this if I came back). Summary: order the Pappardelle!
Amazing
This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants I’ve been to. The service, atmosphere, and food were all outstanding. I think Da Toscano is extremely underrated and gets lost within the other Italian restaurants in NYC- why?? I think it competes with the best of the best. I highly recommend trying it out. One of the best dishes I have had in my life was the lamb neck agnolotti. Other highlight dishes were the grilled oysters, octopus carpaccio, and focaccia. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything you order here.
A Wonderful Surprise!
Finding an exceptional restaurant can sometimes be difficult, even in New York City. How fortunate we were that we chose da Toscano on Minetta Lane, the former home of La Boheme. Starting with the friendly greeting by our well informed waitress Jenna, the talented chef Will, and the ever pleasant general manager Michelle, we enjoyed a meal that pleased everyone's palate. Each dish served was not only beautifully presented, but delicious in taste, served in timely fashion, and quite plentiful. I personally started with the prosciutto di Parma which was exceptionally fresh with a hint of Asian pear; my entree was the scialatelli in a light sauce with freshly shucked clams. Both were quite satisfying. The homemade desserts are also not to be missed. A few other dishes ordered are also pictured here. This is a truly affordable restaurant that you will enjoy and look forward to a return visit amongst a very friendly atmosphere.
