Cowford Chophouse Jacksonville Reviews from The Last Year
Great service with amazing menu.
Wine selection very decent. Staff supper attentive and polite; well engaged and friendly. Had a great time on every occasion. Don't forget to go upstairs to their rooftop to enjoy a cocktail or beer; the views are amazing
Came for a birthday celebration.
Reserved a table 4 weeks ago. The table for 4 they gave us was right next to the entrance. I asked the hostess for a better table and was told not any available. The first floor was 3/4 empty. We did have a very good meal and service was top notch. We ate ribeyes, New York Strip and a Sea Bass. All were cooked perfect and completely finished. The sides asparagus, truffle fries and baked potatoes. The baked potato stood out. The other 2 were just good. The Cesar and house salad was very good. Disappointed the Pistachio dessert was seasonal. We had a dessert that was good. The valet parking was quick and easy. Expect to spend $550 to $600 for 4.

Excellent!!! I sat at the rooftop bar and enjoyed the happy hour drinks and some fresh oysters. I ordered the bone-in Ribeye which was delicious and cooked well. Definitely a place I would return and enjoy a fantastic meal. The bartenders were great and the view was amazing. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!!

We were late for our reservations due to traffic and the line for valet so leave early and if you're late call. Tara was our server and she was wonderful. The Gancia Moscato d'Asti was so delicious and so were the scallops. The Brussel sprouts with the bourbon bacon jam is really good. I'm not a fan of pimento cheese but the Mac n cheese was surprisingly delicious. The mashed potatoes were whipped to perfection. The lamb chops were very tender, the lobster tail and salmon were good. Definitely would come back.
Good food, good service.
Elegant inside, but tables way to close. Great rooftop bar. Good date place but must whisper secrets.
Exceptional meal with incredible service.
They went out of their way to make our anniversary meal so memorable.

The server assistant Rachel was drinking on the job or already drunk and made my experience at cowford unpleasant, uncomfortable, and unwelcoming. I attended this restaurant for a cooperate dinner . The company had rented out one of their private dining rooms just for us . We were greeted so nicely by the parking attendants and the hostess. As we walk in the room looked amazing, so esthetically pleasing and sophisticated. They appointed us to our seats and me and my colleagues were so exited for the night full of great food and good service. Our server started to go around the table taking drink orders and appetizers. She was so nice and patient with us asking her about the menu and recommendations. As the food start to come to the table , the server assistant Rachel is delivering our food . As she gets closer to me she trips on a chair and almost drops the food all over me . She puts the plates down on the table and turns around to apologize to me and I get hit with the reek of alcohol coming from this girl . It was so strong even my Collegue sitting next to me could smell it and we both looked at each other in disbelief. As she was exiting the dining room she was stumbling and even bumped into one of her colleagues . As they came back to clean up the table I see her trying to grab more plates and cups than she can handle ,so close to dropping everything . At this point me and my colleague just started to keep an eye out. As the night went by our server came by to ask if we needed anything (she was super attentive with us ). She began taking our dinner orders and probably after 20 minutes the food started arriving . Once again is the same server assistant delivering our entrées. I had moved back to give her some room to put the plates down . She put the plates down so aggressively that it knocked over the glass of wine and it spilled all over our side of the table and on my colleague pants . For a moment we thought the glass broke because it made a such a loud noise but it didn't . Once she put the plates down she turn to us and apologized for her behavior. We told her it was okay and not to worry about it. It was clear what state she was in but all I can focus on was the smell of alcohol coming from this girl . Me and my colleague watched in disbelief as this girl tried to get through the night . She was all over the place, moving super slow, slurring her words trying to apologize to us and stumbling her steps . The dinner went on and we just enjoyed the delicious food while trying to ignore what just happen. Little after dinner me and my friend go to the ladies room and see her in there trying to put something in her pocket as quickly as possible but she got startle as me and friend walked in. She drops it on the floor and all I could see was a small baggie so she hurried to pick it up from the floor and leave the bathroom . I wasn't exactly sure what i had just saw because I wasn't trying to pay her much attention but my friend believed it was some kind of illegal substances . I was left even more speechless. As the night came to an end we made our server aware of everything we had experience and witnessed through out the night . She apologized for the girls behavior and reassured us that management was going to be made aware of the situation . She also recommended it us to leave a review of our experience. The restaurant ambiance was incredible and over the top . The food was delicious 10/10 . I would totally go back to this place but I would sit at the bar and if you happen to get this girl Rachel I recommend requesting another server assist because she was terrible and drunk. Management have to do better hiring qualified employees for such a high quality restaurant. This girl should be fired for that kind of behavior in my opinion . I hope they take disciplinary action against this because she did not care about how she made the facility or her Collegues look when everyone else was working super hard .

I have avoided trying this restaurant because it's downtown, but it's a special and delightful experience, and the valet parking service made it easy. We dined on the second floor, and the customer service, atmosphere, wine, entrees/sides, and comfy seats were all A+. Don't rush when you are there. Savor every delicious sip and bite; and notice every unique feature, and classy detail inside and out of this revitalized historic building, including the view from the rooftop bar.

We came back after a pretty lackluster experience last time and things were totally back on track. Our dining experience was fantastic from start to finish. The meatballs with that cheddar recipe very were heavenly. The wedge salad was back to being perfect and one of the the best we've ever had. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and tasty. The cocktails (dirty cow and Negroni) were delicious. very happy!

Good food at a classy place my first time there was for my daughter birthday and everything was excellent. My wife and I returned back for our anniversary and it was better than the first time. You cannot beat the Service that you receive from there it's top shelf.

I'm proud to say that this is one of our best local spot! The ambience is absolutely beautiful and the steak is delicious. It's a great date night spot.

This was the start of our 20th anniversary celebration, the service and ambiance was amazing. This was first time in Cowfords and they did not disappoint the food was delicious from the lobster cornbread and fish and oyster appetizers to the main course. We will definitely be back to try more things on the menu.

Our evening out started at the Cowford Chophouse, first reservations are a must for weekends. Our meals, grouper for me and short ribs for my wife were outstanding. Before dinner we had drinks on the rooftop bar while waiting for our table. Service was excellent and our waiter spent time with us reviewing the menu and the evening's specials. Large portions left little room for desert so we split a cheese cake with coffee. On a warmer day we might have chosen to eat on the rooftop and enjoy looking out over the city. But the dinning room was very nice and quiet. Yes it's a bit on the expensive side, however well worth it.

Food was incredible, second best steak I've ever had (my mom's still tops it). The staff was super friendly and very accommodating to my proposal plan. The rooftop was an excellent spot to enjoy the night after the proposal. Excellent spot for an excellent night.
Wonderful upscale dining experience!
Cowford Chophouse didn't disappoint....they actually over delivered on a wonderful dining experience! From the second we walked in the door and were greeted by the friendly hostesses and given a history on the wine locker wall to the extremely attentive, knowledgeable and personable lead server (I forget her name, but she was GREAT!). I had the salmon with a side of mushrooms, a glass of the Riesling and wasn't going to get dessert, but when our server told me about the pastry chef and the homemade honey-vanilla ice cream served with cheesecake in a raspberry sauce, how could I not?! It was worth every single calorie! Don't miss the chocolate covered butter mints on your way out - they are a unique little treat to end your dining experience with! Thank you, Cowford for a great night and compliments to the Chefs!
Nice Jax views from the roof top.
Great interactions with wait staff who took care of dying outdoor heater in timely manner. The only downside was that we had to wait for our steaks for over an hour. We were never given an explanation of why it took so long.
Doesn't live up to the prices
This is an elegant setting (a teensy bit pretentious) and the service was good, but the food was absolutely nothing special, very average and grossly overpriced. None of us had a spectacular meal, and some things were less than stellar (the appetizers and the vegetables, for example). We didn't hate it but would never return.
Wonderful experience
We visited on my wife's birthday. She loves steaks but is often disappointed by higher end establishments. Not the case at Cowford's. She loved her steak, and everything else. Service was stupendous (thanks Gem! and his assistants). We had the bacon app and the mozzarella app special. She had the filet and I had the salmon. We shared the whipped potatoes. Breakdown! The mozz app was good, baguettes were spot on. The bacon app, well for me, way too fatty. I like super crispy bacon. This was 3 large thick fatty slices, more like pork chop slices, not my vibe, but she was okay with it. Her filet was perfect with wonderful flavor. My salmon was excellent with great flavor, without any sauce needed. The whipped potatoes were good but ask for butter. It is flavored in some way and wonderfully compliments the potatoes. We skipped dessert. She loved her vodka strawberry lemonade drink. I enjoyed sanples from a very nice whisky selection. After the tip, we topped $200 for the 2 of us but felt like it was a good value for a wonderful dining experience. We left feeling truly pampered. Will definitely go back, but only for special occasions as it is generally out of our price range.
Avoid the Cowford Chophouse like the PLAGUE!!!
I will start with I will never attempt to go back. Our first visit last year was hit an miss. The food was good (mushroom risotto admittedly was wonderful), the service was good, management needs to give more attention to hostesses/reservations person. They very easily discriminate against the disabled. Hiding behind they are just too busy to fully accommodate someone in a wheelchair. They quickly offer there is ample room to sit at the rooftop bar. Problem is on the rooftop bar the only tables are bar height tables. The day we visited it was raining outside and the sidewalk flooded horribly. I am wheelchair dependent and that caused my wife an I to get soaked coming into the building and we were trapped for over an hour after dinner finished due to the flooding entryway. I Attempted to make reservations a number of times since and was always unable to based on a number of poor reasons/excuses. Regardless, reservations were never available when I tried to make them. Now on to yesterday, July 4th. Was able to make reservations for my wifes birthday... Check! I called a few days prior to verify valet services were still available.... answer was YES.. Check! Let me take a moment and explain why valet is sooo critical to someone in a wheelchair. Having someone available to help load/unload a wheelchair is a great help, side street parking does not allow for a person in a wheelchair to transfer to/from the car. In our case, valet parking is less a vanity concern and much more a needed service. Weather looked a bit iffy for rain so I called about 2 pm to verify valet was still offered and had they fixed the flooding issue at the entryway when it rains. I spoke with the roof top bar manager and she shared yes to valet service is available and no to the flooding issue has been corrected. We arrived at 655pm for a 715pm reservation. NO VALET SERVICE. I called and the hostess started to apologize they were calling all the dinner reservations and somehow the call to notify me the valet service was NOT available had been missed. In my opinion, a bold-faced LIE. The valet service was a 3rd party company and out of their control. I was told there was ample side street parking available. Well as I was getting a combo of disappointed, mad and really mad... I noticed there were 5 homeless guys hanging out about 20 feet from the entryway. Maybe the homeless had reservations... I didn’t ask. We cancelled our reservations and called our go to for a great meal Fogo de Chao at the TownCenter. Fogo made our night special. The food was amazing, the service was better. AND dinner for my wife and I was at least 150.00 less than what I was willing to spend at the Chophouse. Do yourself a favor and forget the Chophouse exists and go drive to Fogo... Ask for Marcio the GM, Kelsey or Mateo (part of his management staff) and tell them you read about them here and AL and Chrissy recommended you check them out. You will NOT be disappointed. As far as the Cowford Chophouse, I would give them a zero rating if that was offered. I cant wait to keep sharing with my peers avoid this place like the plague!
Date Night Did Not Disappoint
My wife and I have not been out to a nice restaurant in a while and we decided to go downtown Jacksonville to Cowford Chophouse. The plan was to have the seafood tower and possibly split a steak and some sides. Once we got there, and we ordered the wood fired seafood tower, we looked at each other and said, “I’m not sure if we need a steak.“ We decided to skip the steak and go directly for dessert and we both had the crème brûlée. Both were fantastic. The woodfired seafood tower was incredible. We’re already trying to figure out when we’re going to go back and spend some time on the roof.
Gracious greeting, mostly good food.
We made a reservation at Cowford Chophouse for an early dinner prior to seeing a show at the neighboring Florida Theater. The "greeters" were plentiful and gracious. We took the elevator to the rooftop bar and had drinks. All three were delicious; but one, a martini, was exceptionally expensive. When advised our table was ready, we were escorted to the second level dining area and greeted by our server. Our drink and appetizer order was fulfilled promptly. The cornbread special appetizer was not as good as anticipated. My short ribs for dinner were delicious, two in our party shared oysters that they said were good, but one of our party ordered a glass of wine that did not appear until after dinner. She was advised the bar was very busy. Cappuccino was not good and took too long to get to us. While most of the food was good, we were disappointed, and it is a very expensive place.
Good steak with great service.
Excellent for a nice steak dinner. Table setting was well laid out. Cocktail was well made with the ingredients that I liked for a rye manhattan. Steak tartar appetizer was a treat not often seen. Smaller filet was cooked rare as I like it. Simple spinach side was nicely cooked. Decaf coffee was good to let me sleep after a long days of convention meetings. The waiter, Jason, made me feel at home by chatting about the book I had it tow. I ate early, so we chatted quite a bit as it was not busy yet. The hosts at the door on the way in and out were also very friendly and attentive to my wish for a table for one in a multi patron environment. I would go back in a minute, but make a reservation for a busy night, if one wants to eat at a later time.
