Underwhelming
Great looking restaurant in a great location. Food, drinks, service, were all good. Just good. Really had high hopes after hearing about their bib gourmand award, but it fell well short of that standard in my opinion. Nothing was bad, but nothing was better than average either. Just disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Indian Food / Lovely Setting
My friends and I were staying in Tarrytown, NY, and looked up Indian restaurants. Chutney Masala was located just a short drive from our hotel. The exterior "curb appeal" is nice - with an outdoor seating area available on a quaint street. It was a hot day so we chose to dine inside. The decor was classy and the tables nicely spaced - I hate when a restaurant crams the tables very close to each other. Our server was attentive and quickly took our drink and appetizer orders. We each ordered our own entrees, but could have shared a meal because the portions were plentiful and absolutely delicious! I couldn't finish my meal and kept thinking about how tasty it would be re-heated as leftovers, but since my hotel room didn't have a microwave, I sadly had to leave my leftovers behind. I'd highly recommend Chutney Masala if you're in the Irvington area.

Did take out for the first time and the food was fresh and delicious. The chicken was moist perfectly cooked and the sauce was so good. We will be back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyPleasant Atmosphere, Pleasant Waitstaff.
Stopped in for a quick bite (more of a hurried bite to eat) and they were very accommodating. Outside seating is pleasant and a plus during Covid.

Nice stop over when walking the Old Croton Aqueduct. The Indian food is well prepared and interesting.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food service not so much
Wonderful menu with lots of vegetarian choices. Was surprised we didn't get papadum when we got there. Prices seem very high and the tandoori chicken came with no vegetables. That said, all the food was delicious. We ordered a special Naan that the waiter either forgot to enter or just brought it as we were almost done.

July 2021, 4 STARS for Service, 3 STARS for food this time. We sat outside and I will say I will say the service was good, however, this time we were disappointed with our meal. We ordered the Shakahari Thales for 2, a special vegetarian appetizer sampler dish that my friend said everything on the sampler dish tasted the same, however, I thought it tasted just fine. But, if you are not a fan of fried food then stay away from this dish because most of the appetizers are fried. Then we shared the Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani, and in our opinion the chicken cubes were dry, not moist at all when you cut into the chicken. We ended up asking for an extra yogurt dip just to soak the chicken In because it was so dry. All and all, we may give this restaurant another try in the future, but it looks like we going back to Little Mumbai Market in Pleasantville, NY to eat Indian food.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for lunch
Make sure you look at the special menu. There is the $17.95 combination lunch and the slightly lower priced luncheon platter with paneer, nan, sauce and your choice of a cup of something. I chose chicken tikka masala and my friend lamb vindaloo. It was enough to feel full.
Be the first to ReplyToo Spicy!
We found the spice in both the Vindaloo and a curry dish to be overpowering.
Having travelled to India several times, I do understand both the spice and the heat that individual chefs and restaurants may use. However, when we both ate only half of our entrees, you know that something must be off. Very good service, good food--just a bit too spicy.
A restaurant worth leaving the city for.
We left NYC for the day for a short journey north to Irvington for some fresh air and we stopped at this restaurant for a late afternoon bite. I usually steer away from Indian food as i find it over spiced (not over spicy, just too many flavors all muddled together), but Chutney Masala gets it right. The good ingredients and good flavors were not masked by an overabundance of Ghee and oils and the results was some of the best Indian food i have ever had. We will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Indian restaurants I have ever tried
So impressed with this restaurant. Fantastic selection of very fresh and well made Indian food. The service was great and seemed like everyone working there was participating in giving good service. Pretty darn good cocktails too! Bonus!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
First let me state the positive— the lamb chunks in my vindaloo were excellent, very lean and and tender, able to shred them with a fork. I wish I could be as enthusiastic about the other factors of my meal. The vindaloo sauce although tangy and spiced did not taste like any other vindaloo I have had before. Tasted more like a traditional stew then an Indian dish. Also rather watery in my opinion. The Chana masala was extremely watery and lacked any flavor whatsoever. Tasted like boiled chick peas. The nan was good but a little pricy at five bucks. Over all the dishes were priced on the high side and not worth the cost. Probably won’t return.
Be the first to ReplyQuality Ingredients but Thoroughly Average Overall
You can absolutely tell that they use quality ingredients. However, the food overall is thoroughly average. Flavors are bland and portions are small.
The remainder of the restaurant is also average - friendly service and nice atmosphere but nothing stand out or memorable. Average food at above average prices - would not recommend.
