FANTASTIC
Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was excellent and the staff are just fabulous. Our 4th time and it wonโt be the last
Be the first to ReplyOtherwise excellent anniversary lunch spoiled by smell of cooking fish.
Beautiful surroundings with excellent service and furnishings. The menu was varied although the dessert menu was very limited. The ambience was spoiled by the strong smell of cooking fish during our meal even though we were not too near the open kitchen.

Dined here a couple of evenings while resident in the hotel. Service outstanding. Although the menu is limited we thoroughly enjoyed our choice and 3 course meals each evening. Particularly liked how as a couple you are not seated too close to other diners.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as it used to be, in our view
Small number of choices on the menu. Compared to when we were last here about a year ago. This can be a good sign but wasnโt this time. My guess is that the current chefs donโt have a full set of capabilities for short notice choice. Good sized portions but not the same quality of taste - in our view.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Birthday dinner
No ambiance, paper napkins. Not 5* Dessert was cold, forgot to give bread with cheese platter. Kitchen was open plan, but no enthusiasm from chefs. Felt like a cafe. Restaurant does not match hotel.. Wouldnโt return.
Be the first to ReplySmall portions large price
As always the is exceptional and the service excellent.Prices are getting a bit steep on average ยฃ35 for a main course and ยฃ15 for starters and desserts.
Be the first to ReplyFive Star Food, Service and Atmosphere
We have always experienced top quality service, atmosphere and food at Cromlix House whenever we have visited. Over the past five years, we had visited Cromlix for lunch, afternoon tea and an overnight stay. It was because of our positive prior experiences, and it being a perfect location for a small wedding, coupled by what we deemed to be competitive prices for a five star venue, that we held our wedding at Cromlix in May 2022. The organisation of the day, with the aid of the in-house events coordinator and their team, was efficient and effortless. The day ran smoothly and any queries were addressed quickly. Nothing appeared to be an issue for the Cromlix team. We ate an evening meal in the Garden Room the day before the wedding, which was from the a la carte menu, and the food and wine was exceptional. The food that we had chosen for our set wedding menu was also exquisite in flavour and presentation. Using a frozen hollowed blood orange half as a bowl for our lychee sorbet (palate cleanser) was innovative - it was a great talking point. We received numerous compliments from our guests on the food. Cromlix catered for dietary requirements with ease and the food that these guests received looked equally incredible. I could not recommend Cromlix enough for any occasion. My one very small gripe would be the lack of built-in sound system. Nevertheless, they have a portable bluetooth speaker. I would recommend using this if you're having a private meal in the Garden Room for enjoying background music.
Be the first to ReplyFive stars for food
We ate here for the first time at lunchtime today and the meal itself lived up to all expectations. It was our 40th anniversary and we were excited to be going for a special meal. The service, though, spoiled the experience: arriving at 1.30, we were told to sit in the bar where nobody acknowledged or came near us for around 15 minutes to take a drinks order (even although there were plenty of staff milling around) and our drinks took another 10 mins to arrive. Then we were given the menu and eventually we were invited to sit at our table 45 minutes after arriving. In short, the food was great but the experience was let down by the service and the feeling that we weren't that important as customers.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable family lunch
Visited as a group of 4 adults and 2 children. Nice venue (preferred the lounge area to the actual dining room though) and child friendly. Starters and mains were good, desserts not so strong. Overall though, we enjoyed our visit.
Be the first to ReplyQuality in beautiful relaxed surroundings
Visited for Sunday lunch. Staff were outstanding- knowledgeable and friendly. Well presented and excellently prepared lunch befitting of the standard of the surroundings. Really relaxed ( not stuffy) .
Be the first to ReplyFabulous!
Excellent food, superbly cooked and beautifully presented! Crispy parcel of spiced stone bass, ham hock terrine with home made piccalilli, roast loin of roe deer (no knife needed!), pan seared fillet of halibut. Top quality ingredients with wonderfully matched vegetables, herbs and spices to let the stars of the show really shine. Bonus of a tiny chocolate muffin on a "happy birthday" decorated plate for Mum's 80th Culinary HEAVEN!
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed is being as positive as we can be!
Strong smell of chip shop fat smell on arrival which we got used to! Cafeteria feeling with lots of afternoon tea guests while we had lunch, paper napkins, tables not cleared when guests left, our glasses not cleared when empty but surprisingly they tried to clear our table with one guest still eating!, staff uniforms from a jumble sale (when I told the Ayrshire waiter that he was missing a button on his waistcoat he said yes! I guess he canโt sew!). Sparkling water from Wales when Scotlandโs Highland Spring is along the road! Apparently Mr Roux chooses the water and only Welsh is good enough! - strange that Scottish water isnโt good enough when he claims he tries to use local ingredients when he can. But the staff said he only visits every two years! We asked who the maitre dโ is and the waiter didnโt know the term so had no idea who it is! Coffee cups put down as they were no effort to set them with the handle correctly positionedโฆ..When we asked for the bill, we had to wait ages and then a further 15 minutes for the card machine. On the bright side - the staff were friendly and so I can only put it down to a serious lack of training. The food was fine but not wow - the ham hock terrine was lacking in taste and the fish in pastry starter with rice was nice but large. We all had the roe deer which was nice but by that time we were in cafe experience mode and so it was difficult to wow us. Puddings were fine but I struggled to taste the Baileys in the Baileyโs ice cream. ยฃ320 for 4 of us in a chippy smelling cafe environment with pleasant but poorly trained staff - no thank you - we wonโt be back and donโt recommend you waste your money - continue along the road to Gleneagles. Disappointing - as we only went because weโre Andy fans and assumed that the Roux brand would be quality. Apparently the staff are from a separate management company - ICMI - so I think Murray and Roux really need to ask if theyโre good enough for their names!
Be the first to ReplyNice experience
We went as a family recently and enjoyed the experience. The food was very tasty and the extensive drinks menu was very interesting. We have to say however that we were disappointed to only have a choice of three starters and three main courses on the menu, we thought that the menu would have been slightly more extensive.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, fantastic service
Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, attentive without being obtrusive staff, excellent food, what more needs to be said? Loved the fact that we could choose from either menu and have dishes from both if we wished. Just delicious.

The food here was fantastic, also the team at Chez Roux are extremely helpful and attentive. I would definitely go back if in the area.
Be the first to ReplyOUTSTANDING
From the moment we arrived for lunch and until we left everything was outstanding. All the staff were very welcoming, professional and engaging. Originally booked for Christmas Day but due to a booking system error our booking was changed to Christmas Eve, but on arrival the complimentary glasses of Champagne arranged by Lauren more than made up for it. We really enjoyed our meal each course was First Class and cannot praise the chefs enough, one of the best meals we have ever had. Well done to all the staff at Cromlix a truly amazing Christmas Eve experience, we are really looking forward to staying at Cromlix in March 2022 and to another superb meal.
Be the first to ReplyEat somewhere else
Booked our table in September, at which time the website stated a Festive Menu, as well as the a la carte would be served, but discovered when we arrived that this was not the case. A festive menu will only be served from Christmas Eve onwards. To be offered a lounge menu, which includes a selection of sandwiches or a la carte menu that comprised of 3 choices per course in a โ5โ star restaurant, is unbelievable.
We complained about the meal choice & were told there had been staff shortages.
We wonโt be back & in future will be going to Gleneagles if we want a special night out.
Worth it!
Small menu, perfectly formed. Staff were excellent.
The Cromlix Hotel has been renovated, new modern restaurant facilities added but old world feel of previous hotel retained. Total joy.
It was so good I forgot to take pictures!
I came here to treat my Mum for lunch and what a treat it was. From start to finish we were made to feel so welcome by the staff. The food was ace! So weโll cooked and the wine we had with it was perfect. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and will definitely be returning.

Having dined in the Chez Roux restaurant a number of years ago we were looking forward to returning but noticed a change in the menu. More limited choice than before. However the food was excellent. The only disappointing aspect was the service. We were shown to our table and then waited 45 minutes! Starters didnโt appear but our main course did! There was profuse apologies and an additional dessert offered. Would recommend as the food is excellent but a more limited choice than in other restaurants
Be the first to ReplyDidnโt quite smash it
Was so looking forward to our visit as part of quarterly catch-up with our โfoodieโ friends.
Champagne cocktails were warmโฆ. Menu choice limited โฆ.in comparison with the extremely extensive wine list . Food tasty had to be eaten quickly as not that warm.
Cheese overpriced for what was served . Expresso martinis were delish and were highlight !
Will def be back to sample the afternoon tea as I hear that is a much better experience
Thankfully, flexibility in augmenting the limited choice-looking menu
The bar area has a pleasant contemporary look that is carried through to the restaurant.
The menu options appeared to be very limited but the chef came to the rescue and after good appetisers we were served with smoked grouse and lamb rack (respectively) - again both excellent.
Service until then had been very good but unaccountably it slowed to such an extent that we had to leave before the ordered dessert arrived.
Fabulous food
Had dinner twice here. Food was fantastic, great ingredients, presentation and taste. The braised beef cheek was especially tasty.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing meal with great service
We ate here twice during our stay at the hotel - for lunch and dinner - and both serving were faultless. The staff at the hotel and restaurant could not have been more welcoming, adjusting to our timings without any question. The food here is just of such a high standard, itโs a small menu but a real variety in the small choice. The restaurant has very high covid 19 measures which I was personally very glad about and made me feel very safe. Will hopefully be returning to both the hotel and restaurant very soon.
