Chama Mama
If you have never tried Georgian food, you need to lace your hoka's up and SPRINT to Chama Mama. My introduction to the cuisine was in 2019 on a 10-day trip to Russia. After having only bland Russian food for 4-5 days in a row, we were recommended a Georgian restaurant. The soul can only take so many flavorless rabbit dumplings before being worn down. Georgian food is quite the contrary, as it has a robust variety of dishes and flavors. I was blown away by a cuisine that I had no idea existed. After trying to impress a cute Russian Hinge girl I matched with last summer by telling her how much I love Georgian food, she mentioned that I NEED to go to Chama Mama. What better rec can you get? I finally made it here, and it exceeded any and all expectations. The Adjaruli Khachapuri is an absolute must, as I'm fully convinced this will become an extremely popular dish in the US at some point. Just wait until tiktok gets ahold of it. It is a perfectly cooked soft bread with the center hollowed out with cheese and an egg in the middle. They mix it up right there in front of you for some great content, and you eat it with the good ol' rip and dip strategy. We also got the lamb stuffed grape leaves, beef and pork dumplings, and the mixed grill. The mixed grill was sensational. Since you read this far, I know you're curious. I ended up going on one date with the Russian girl, but the language barrier and cultural differences proved to be insurmountable. Nothing in my life will ever be for lack of effort though. We went to this restaurant at a lunch break during a visit to the the Rubin Museum of Art in Chelsea New York. We were very pleased with quality of the Georgian food prepared here. Vivian our waitress was super kind walked us through the options to help us make good choice. Super nice and fair price.

Top notch experience. Wonderful food, attentive and friendly staff, comfortable outdoor space with cover and fans to keep temperature in check. Loved the breads and dumplings. Lots of options for vegetarians. Terrific cocktails. A happy place we look forward to visiting again.

I was intrigued to visit a Georgian restaurant (my first time) and was blown away. It was a superb experience. The food was amazing; I particularly recommend the Taste of Georgia appetizer. The Georgian bread is also mouth-watering. The staff was phenomenal - even after I spilled my drink, they were very kind & offered a free replacement. I would love to go back again as there were many entree choices, although one can make a full meal between the appetizers and hot/cold plates..

Excellent service and excellent food. Wonderful presentation of cuisine. Will go there again to explore the menu.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific, bustling Georgian restaurant.
Busy, bustling restaurant with great food and a lively atmosphere. Staff handled the crowds with ease and style. The food - a cuisine I’d never had before - was terrific, and Georgian red wine is an absolute delight. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and I’d definitely go back.

Very pleased with quality of food. We dropped in between lunch and dinner, but staff was nice enough to accommodate us and the kitchen produced very fresh bread, excellent khachapuri and true Georgian Kharcho with thick walnut sauce. The best was the modern take on pelamushi, really very creative while preserving all the unmistakable flavors of the original. The place is lovely too and the waiters are friendly. Overall recommend to anyone who already likes or wants to experience Georgian food.

it pains me to only rate this place a 3 but it's the opinion of both me and the person I went with. the place itself is fine and the servers are friendly and competent. the menu has interesting items but we mostly relied on the suggestions of our server. of course we had the cheese bread "boat". the spectacle of mixing in the egg and butter at the table was fun but it really didn't taste like anything special. imagine a run of the mill decent calzone minus the ricotta. we also had an appetizer which consisted of two very dry biscuits (they called it 'cornbread'), one was topped with a spinach mixture, and the other topped with a

We have eaten at Chama Mama (14th St) a few times, most recently last month for dinner. The vibe at dinner in the front of the restaurant is dark with a background beat of EDM music. The dishes are setup for sharing and some are very filling, particularly the breads like khachapuri and lobiani (our favorite). The 'Taste of Georgia' menu item is great for sharing and trying a few different things. Many dishes highlight Georgian spices - there is a potato dish which seems so simple but is so delicious. They have a number of interesting cocktails and many Georgian wines. The meal overall can get a bit pricey, similar to what happens at good tapas restaurants but the quality is definitely there. Highly recommended and definitely get reservations in advance (although if I recall they do take a credit card on a reservation and will charge if you cancel with short notice).

Man, what to say about Chama Mama. Firstly, it was my first experience of Georgian food, and it was incredible. We had a party of 4 and got the meat platter, the taste of Georgia, and a few other plates to share, and they were all great. Our server was super friendly and made a new experience feel really comfortable, and even brought someone over to explain the incredible art in the restaurant. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyTruly the best Georgian place in NYC
Damn! Why haven't I tried this place before?! I've seen it coming up with good reviews for some time but never got to try with so many other choices. This is truly the best Georgian place in NYC. Take if from a hard to please foodie. And the staff! If you know Georgians, you know how great they are.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and Very Filling
I don’t know how Georgians make it past 50 if they eat like this. Just about everything loaded with fat. Delicious mind you. But you will get very full very quickly.

Delicious food with very interesting flavors. Two of us had Georgian flat bread, Khinkall with a beef & pork blend, and the Three salad sampler with chicken. Highly recommend it. Great value. It's 0.4 miles from the American Museum of Natural History, a 9 minute walk.

Excellent food, nice waiters, good atmosphere. I was glad we had booked in their covered backyard because it was less noisy than inside.
Be the first to ReplyMust do!!
First time I ever saw or heard of Georgian restaurant. Would give it nothing but the best ratings- food was amazing!!! My daughter first came the week before and raved and couldn’t wait to go back so I was visiting and we went. Cheese bread to die for, veggie appetizer sampler was supposed to be my meal but had to share:(. Wine sampler pours could have been more generous- should have got a glass or nothing. But the food was amazing!

Be the first to ReplyLocal Georgian eatery.
The restaurant itself is very clean and feels renovated recently. I have tasted Georgian food many times around New York both at restaurants and at Georgian / Eastern European grocery stores.
The food here is fresh but not sensational. Just a good local restaurant with clean kitchen and OK food. Worth a visit.
Dining Around the World
Of course in NYC you can find international dining from just about anywhere. But Chama gives one an upscale Georgian dining experience. The roasted chicken was excellent as were the meat filled dumplings. This is a beautifully designed restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyReally great Georgian - Upper West Side location
I love Georgian food and this place was not a dissapointment. Everything was really tasty and the service was very good too. I would definitely recommend and I will return when the mood for Georgian food strikes again.
Be the first to ReplyGood Georgian food.
I went to the Upper West Side Chama Mama for pickup and am writing here because the UWS version does not yet appear to have a page here on TripAdvisor. I have been to Georgia 4 times and love Georgian food. We ordered a pumpkin soup, a country salad, some mushroom dumplings, a hot vegetarian dish, pickled vegetables and 2 Georgian deserts, as well as unsweetened iced tea. They also gave us some bread and a free khachapuri.
The soup and salad were the particular standouts. The deserts were so-so. The iced tea was strong and very good.
HIghly recommended, will be ordering again!
Bad service
I have been here numerous times over the past two years with groups of friends and have always enjoyed the food and service. I organized a birthday celebration last week for a party of 10. This was to our detriment because if you are over 9 a charge of $120, PER PERSON (before tax and tip) is applied. This is absolutely ridiculous, unless your party is a group of big drinkers. I had to organize two tables and was told that they would "try" to place them near one another, unfortunately, they were on opposite sides of the patio-manager said he had to do this to be fair to the waitstaff, but the strange thing is, the other table had the same server. Hmmm. The white wine arrives at room temp., we asked why it was not chilled, and he claims it is supposed to be served in this manner- not according to the label on the bottle . We ask for a bucket, and he brings two glasses filled with ice-my friend joked that he forgot the straws. Just what we want, watered down wine. We have to ask again for a bucket filled with ice. Also, after the bottle was opened the server did not allow the initial tasting, he simply poured for everyone at the table. The chicken dish was served cold. The server also forgot to serve the lobiani and asked the table if we had received the dish, which we were not certain of, then realized that we had not- not only had the dish not come out with the others, he gave the table attitude for not remembering. My friend asked for the plates to be changed out, as they had gotten a bit messy, and he only changed out one plate. UGH! Several of us also commented that the dishes had gotten smaller. Lastly, if it is time for the bill to be settled, do it in a nice manner, not be so abrupt. We understand your policy and are happy to make the table available for the next party. The service was unbelievably bad, the only reason I didn't give it one star, was due to the food. We are all done with this place!
Be the first to ReplyNot really hospitality.
Upon making our reservation for dinner for 4, we were advised that we had exactly 2 hours, from 6pm - 8pm. With hindsight we now know to find another spot for dinner when this is the prevailing attitude.
The service was slow in taking our order so when it was time for dessert, our time was up and the bill was dropped on the table. Time to get out.
The service staff was not exactly simpatico to begin with, the food was ok, nothing special in Georgian fare.
