After some years of abstinence from going to restaurants, we decided for L’Ecu having had a good experience in the past (beginning of 2017). Not much change on the decoration; still Brown. The ownership changed and so did the Menu, less “sweets” with the Main course and that is a welcomed change. I titled the review “Mixed feelings” for a reason: my wife chose the Bucatini with gambas, ail de l’ours (a seasonal aromatic herb similar in taste to garlic) and asparagus. The combination of all the ingredients made for a well balanced and very pleasant Main dish. I chose the Tartare de boeuf coupé au couteau and was disappointed. The meat was chopped too much, had no consistency which is what makes the “coupé au couteau” technique so special, far better tasting meat than ground. It was as if it had been ground for too long. On top of it, it was pinkish in color, same as when you “cook” the food in using too much lemon juice and for too long and, most of all, it was sweet tasting. No addition of salt could correct the overly sweet taste. Pity again. The service has remained as we remembered: attentive, courteous and professional; the wine list offers good choices including wine on tap. Prices remain on the high side given the level of the Restaurant and thanks to the world inflation.
