Campagnola is an iconic Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side of New York City. It has been serving fabulous Italian cuisine for over 30 years, perhaps longer, but I've been going for at least thirty. Campagnola is a vibrant spot. You'll likely see a celebrity or two, both from Hollywood and most certainly the New York sports teams and some visiting while playing here. The restaurant is headed by the fabulous Frankie D', whose held fort for as long as I've been going. It's an amazing place and always a fun and wonderful culinary experience.
Be the first to ReplyWent here last night for a belated birthday dinner.
Food was excellent, service great. But very very crowded and they were trying to rush us-why? Because twice they took things from the table that were not done yet. A pasta dish that was 2/3 finished-but there was still enough there, and my friends drink that was 2/3 done. It was so fast we did not even see the server do this! Love this place, food delicious, festive, piano player lovely-but please WAIT for us to finish our meals before taking them from the table! My pet peeve!!

There are rats going in and out of this place like a rat freeway. Last time I was there (last week) I was using the restroom and a rat basically sat next to me and had a conversation.

Stopped in here for a date night, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. From the moment we walked in, we felt out of place and unwelcome, as if we didn't fit the expected crowd. This uncomfortable atmosphere persisted throughout our meal. To add to our disappointment, the service felt rushed, leaving us with little time to truly enjoy our evening. It's a shame, as the potential for a pleasant dining experience was there, but sadly, it fell short. If you don't look like you have money, I wouldn't bother.

Amazing food, ambience and staff!!! Definitely want to go back again. Loved their sizzling T-Bone steak!
Be the first to ReplyA legend but probably time to pack it in.
The service was great and the ambiance was the same as always but the food was overwhelmingly bland. Got the $75 Osso Bucco special and could barely taste it even after dousing it with salt and adding crispy the garlic from my side of spinach. The baked clams were mostly just burnt oily breadcrumbs. It looked like Italian food but tasted like... nothing. I took half of my meal to go to avoid explaining I didn't like it and left it on a garbage can on 75th street so hopefully a homeless person can get some free calories. Grabbed pizza on the way home just to prove to myself I didn't have covid and still had a sense of taste.

What a great little spot, some of the best parm I've had in my life. Don't skip out on dessert I recommend the cheesecake. Prices are expensive, but worth it!

1. Do not take a table outside. Took 20 min for anyone to come to table. 30 min to be served a salad and over an hour for 2 pasta dishes 2. food rating at best 6.5/10 Many many many more choices in NYC and therefore this one should be passed. Visiting from SF and previous lived in NY. Definitely not the calabre I'm used to. Paul
Be the first to ReplyThe first time I came to Campagnola was in 2019.
It was terrific. The food was excellent, the service was amazing, they offered us some free snacks and drinks to taste. Overall, a wonderful family-style and cozy vibe. The second time was this year during Valentine's Day and the food was fine, but not worth the extremely high price, and the service was absolutely terrible. They were pushy, had no patience for my questions about the wine, basically told me that two wines taste "exactly the same" so it doesn't matter which one I get and they were pressuring us to order more food. It also kind of felt like they were hovering to see when we were finished. Wouldn't come back.

Amazing restaurant, if you like quality service and quality food this is the place. From the Salami and Bread to the mouth watering Pasta's. The veal oso buca was cooked perfectly. Whenever we are in town we will go here.

Great service and food! The live music made the atmosphere much memorable. Pesto Gnocchi was amazing!!
Be the first to ReplyVery traditional dishes.
Go for the chicken parm or chicken. Bread is fresh, pastas al dente & desserts are good! Ambiance is old-school NYC neighborhood gem.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent veal dishes.
Staff was very attentive and professional. The wonderful atmosphere included live piano music. Old world charm!!!
Be the first to ReplyExtremely disappointing food and prices.
Over $50 for a salad and a piece of chicken. Small portions. Would never eat here again. No idea how they are open in NYC.
Be the first to ReplySuch a nice dinner - even at the bar.
Fantastic food, terrific service, great atmosphere. Love it.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is a gem on the upper east side.
It's probably one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The veal Parm is amazing. Can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyI am giving this a 2 star rating as the food was delicious.
However, this was absolutely the worst dinning experience. From the minute we arrived at 5pm on a Friday evening the stress began. We were told this is a busy season so we need to order as soon as possible. We were a party of 5 and two of our party members were stuck in traffic, seriously this is Manhattan! Immediately I felt my anxiety kick in. Waiters hovering asking us what we want to drink (I didn't even have my coat off). Menus were given after 10 minutes with our drinks arriving. Our full party arrived at 5:15 and one was met at the door asking what she wanted for a drink? I kid you not. The waiter took my appetizer plate while I was still eating. When I said I was not finished he said "Miss please your entree is here" and pulled my plate away. At this point if I had a Xanax I would have taken it!!! I have lived on the upper east side my whole life and always wanted to try this restaurant and suggested it to my friends. I was so embarrassed and honestly mortified by the way we were treated. As my friend was trying to sort out the bill (mind you we are coming up on 90 minutes there) the hovering over her shoulder caused her to say, "Can you give me a minute?" I was so proud of her!!!! So from this life time resident of the UES, your food was excellent, but my dining experience was horrible and I for sure will not be back!

Quintessential old school NYC restaurant vibe with a welcoming vibe, a pianist singing classic songs, and food which never fails to impress. Had bolognese and lamb chops which were mouthwatering and flavorful.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is not about service or food.
I could write a book about that, as I have been a waiter there for years. This is a review about the character of Campagnola, a shadow of what it once was. when, about two years ago, COVID-19 forced a shutdown, the management organized a "Gofundme support fund" in the name of the employees. Two years later, and after many attempts to comunicate with either the owner or the manager, some of us, those who have not returned, have got nothing. Gofundme.org have been informed and are carrying out an investigation. Hopefully the matter will be resolved in a just manner. If not, I hope the management of Campagnola can buy enough salami and Parmesan with the employees fund to, at least, give something back to the costumers who have kindly donated.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in NYC.
The food, the service, and the atmosphere. A real old-school red-sauce Italian restaurant. They have remained consistent through the pandemic. Thankful they are still around and continue to be superior .

I went to Campagnola last night with my boyfriend to celebrate our 8 year anniversary. When we arrived we were asked if we would like to check in our coats, we declined. Then the waiter proceeded to take us to our table. The table was by the stairs to the bathroom & the space was pretty tight. My boyfriend is 6ft and I could tell he felt squished. The space is not enough for two people to sit comfortably, that should be revised. Looking back I should've definitely said something because we deserved better especially since we were celebrating our anniversary. We were started with a free charcuterie plate that had amazing salami & cheese. I really enjoyed it! We also asked for a bottle of Prosecco that was also yummy. The only downfall with that was that it was placed far from us so we couldn't serve ourselves as we pleased & the waiters were hard to flag down. For our appetizer we had the fried calamari, it came with the best fresh tasting marinara. Then for our entrees I had the chicken parmigiana & my boyfriend had the spaghetti bolognese. The chicken parmigiana is not on the menu but they were happy to make it, it did not come with a side I should've asked for some pasta to accompany it. My boyfriend shared his spaghetti bolognese with me, it was tasty & perfectly al dente. For dessert we opted for the chocolate cake. It was more of like a hard mousse, but it was very rich & the strawberries it came with were a great addition. Overall we had a pretty good time but if I'm honest I'm not sure I would return. Don't get me wrong the food is good but I felt something was off. Starting with the table we were sat at, to the lack of service our table was receiving in comparison to the table that was right next to us. My boyfriend was constantly trying to get the waiters attention. We were the only POC in the establishment so that definitely made me reflect more on our experience.

I can't believe that this restaurant permits unvaccinated people to dine indoors. I have eaten here several times and was astounded that they allowed.Sarah Palin to dine inside without a vaccination, to sign autographs and to converse with others diners and to expose others to COVID
Be the first to ReplyOMG, visiting NYC to see ย relatives, we went here.
I got the pasta and after three bites found a long black hair. Told the waiter, he ACCUSED me of planting it. I am 60 and nearly bald. my family and friends who were with me are older, and dont have long hair. He then said we did it because of some publicity the restaurant had. Told him I was from out of town and didn't know what he was talking about. Neither did our family who lives here. He just laughed and said a few words I won't repeat and told us to leave. ย I googled the place later and I see what he meant but I don't care about politics, I care about a good meal at a good price! This is not a place I will return to
