I would like to say it was similar to the California Grill prepandemic, but itโs not. Itโs mediocre at best. They have a price fixed menu and the food is just not that great quality. My granddaughter had the childrenโs steak and rice, the rice was hard. The bread doesnโt come out to the table completely cut. My steak was good but the rest of the plate was eh. The fireworks donโt let you down and I guess that is what we are paying for now. The waiter this evening was a disappointment. Iโm sure he was trying very hard, but it came off as annoying and smart a$$. My granddaughter wanted to go there for her birthday and he just left the cake on the table during fireworks. There was no candle or Mickey confetti. It was just okay for an almost $400 dinner. We will def have to rethink going back again. We need to give it a break and suggest you do as well.
Be the first to ReplySpectacular Service, Drinks, and Food! Top shelf in every way.
We had the pleasure to dine at Disneyโs California Grill for a special dinner. What a surprise as we checked in to run into a cast member (Mary) from our home town. We had a lovely table with sight lines for the evenings fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. It was spectacular! The meal and service (Holly) was even more spectacular. The apps that we shared were the Goat Cheese Raviolo and the Pomegranate and Apple Salad. Both were outstanding and packed with flavor. Our mains were the Oak Grilled Filet and upgraded to a delicious Wagyu steak that was the best steak I have ever had! Served with seasonal vegetables that all put together gave savory bites. We chose the higher level wine pairing with our meals. Every single wine was outstanding. Truly wonderful Cabernets that were expertly served. Our desserts, the Chocolate Ganache Torte and Spiced Panna Cotta put an exclamation point to our meal. Both were full of flavor and the Torte would satisfy any chocolate lover. The Panna Cotta was unlike any we have had before. The elements put together were of a savory nature but balanced by the base of the Panna Cotta. This meal is a great value for a high end meal. Cab;t wait to go back on our next trip!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Birthday Dinner at The California Grill in Disney World
We just had an outstanding birthday dinner at the California Grill at the Comtemporary Resort at Disney World. My husband โs and my birthday are one day apart and we celebrated tonight. Our waiter, Roberto, made excellent suggestions and brought us complimentary Champagne to celebrate! I tried their new (first day on the menu) vegan entree a delicious stuffed ravioli with giant trumpet mushrooms that tasted and had the texture of scallops. My husband had the grouper. We were both delighted with our dinners. Roberto also recommended a wonderful rose. The evening ended on the roof of the Contemporary watching fireworks from the Magic Kingdom ..
Be the first to ReplyTo bad but one of our favorites has fallen victim of the covid break.
This used to be a must do but it looks like the quality has fallen to the covid break. We ate there the other day ,March 2024. And the sushi was excellent. That's what gave this review 2 stars. The steak was tough and the potatoes severed with it tasteless. The deserts were also 2 star but not standouts. Service was odd we were there at firework time we were seated near the end of the show our waiver was trying to talk with us over the music from the show being played in the restaurant and we could not hear him and he kept coming back we felt rushed. Anyway that's enough for now. Thus used to be good but at this time I would skip it and it is now off our must do list
Be the first to ReplyMagical Views and Delicious Bites
The California Grill Lounge provides a delightful and upscale experience without the formality of the main dining room. The food is delicious, the views are magical, and the atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion or a casual get-together. While it may not be a budget-friendly option, it's a worthwhile splurge for a memorable Disney dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyNot a good place to eat as the quality of food is just poor.
Itโs very hard to justify the value this restaurant offers as food is below average . We ordered red snapper and this was a disappointment the risotto was very salty and the fish was dry, looks like the person cooking the food didnโt care about what he or she is doing. 2nd main course was chicken and the chicken was not so great either with a very miss-match accompaniment and I will give these 2/10.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, good food and memorable
This was our second favorite meal of our trip! We are a family of 4 with an 8.5 and 5 year old. The food was yummy, but the desserts werenโt memorable. Itโs a 3 course meal and I started with the Pomegranate and Quince Salad and my husband the Sardinian Pizza. We both had the Florida Black Grouper as our entree and for dessert I had the Spiced Panna Cotta and my husband Peanut and Banana Torte. The grouper was cooked perfectly and was unique with white beans and bacon. Our server was attentive and we had excellent service. The kids started out with the saladโฆmy son ate the most lettuce heโs ever eaten and my daughter had the kids steak with mac n cheese and my son the grilled chicken with mac n cheese. If your kids are picky about mac n cheese this is yellow cheese and shells (like velveeta).

Be the first to ReplyBest DINING EXPERIENCE ever!
JUST AN UNFORGETTABLE DINING EXPERIENCE! How can you beat a rooftop restaurant that overlooks all four Disney Parks .. .. Their top-notch staff started me off with thei RAVIOLO that was subtle and delicious .. .. The came their PORK SKILLET which was delicious and the smoothest polenta you will ever fave and topping it off was their CALIFORNIA CHEESE TRAY with a Bleu Cheese that blew my socks off .. .. Most shocking was trying some of the families dishes and they were amazing >>> Their PIZZA appetizer was easily the best pizza I've ever had and their KIM CHI FRIED RICE was the best fried rice I've ever had too! And, as fireworks started, our server directed us to the outdoor patio to view the fireworks and had fresh coffee awaiting us when we returned to the table .. .. We were seated at 5:00PM and didn't leave the restaurant until after the fireworks at 8:30PM .. .. An unforgettable night!
Be the first to ReplyGone significantly downhill sadly
We have been coming to California Grill for the past 11 years, normally visiting twice a year. It has been one of our favourite restaurants in Walt Disney World and has always been a must do. Sadly after our most recent visit I don't think we will return Since reopening after the pandemic it is now a 3 course prix fixe menu for $89. This wasn't a massive concern for us, we would normally have 3 courses, and we were happy with the menu. This has always been a fine dining experience, with great service - things have changed. We had to order all 3 courses at the same time which made it feel more like a counter service meal. We also ordered the deluxe wine pairings for each course, as well as a cocktail whilst we waited. The appetisers arrived quickly and our wine pairings were poured. This was our first shock. Portion sizes have decreased significantly as you can see from the attached pictures of my spicy Kazan roll from 2020 and 2023! The food was delicious as always and the wines paired beautifully. This was when the 2nd issue cropped up. Before our appetiser plates had even been cleared, the staff attempted to bring out our mains. They had to quickly clear the plates before bringing our mains, but no sign of the wine pairings. By the time our waitress told us she was bringing the wine, we had pretty much finished our mains. We told her that we didn't want the pairings and asked to have them removed from the bill. We also told her that it really didn't feel like a fine dining experience after she told us it was good that the food was brought out quickly! I don't think she understood at all The final straw was the cheese plate for dessert - again a massive decrease in portion sizes - see attached pictures. From 5 cheeses down to 3! I mentioned that I wanted an after dinner drink, like we would do most times to enjoy a leisurely finish to our meal, and the waitress asked several times what I wanted in what seemed like an attempt to rush us through. I would understand this if they needed the table, but it was after 9:30pm, and there were many empty tables around us if they needed to seat more guests. It just appeared that they were keen to get rid of us, again very different to any previous experience at California Grill. We have done dinner and brunch here, we have ordered speciality cakes from the chef in the past, all because of how good this restaurant was. All in all a disappointment and massively sad how far this once great restaurant appears to have fallen. We don't mind the prix fixe menu, but the portion sizes and service need to return to what they were before. If they don't, I think we will give the restaurant a miss going forward, which is a real shame.
Be the first to ReplyHat and flip flops
This is a Michelin star restaurant how Iโve been coming here for years and canโt believe what I am seeing hats and flip flops why am I getting dressed when I can come here in the clothes I wore all day working on my car they have some balls tell me this is a signature restaurant I mean the food is delicious and the service is amazing and then the view second to none but really itโs like you can be a pig and they will let u in Iโm sorry but the hole disney higher ups need to eat at there โ SIGNATUREโrestaurants maybe they should make it a fast food establishment it all going to the dogs
Be the first to ReplyPlate banging
This is the worst place to eat dinner. I got seated by the kitchen so all I heard was the dishes banging all dinner. I could not talk to my party without yelling across the table. I got a migraine from the banging of the plates. I could move my table after dinner and before dessert. At that time I wanted to leave way before that. Steak was overcooked and the red snapper was like warm. Terrible
Be the first to ReplySee the Fireworks!
Our family had a delicious dinner and, as suggested by waiter Nasser, ate our appetizers, went out on the deck to see the nearby fireworks show at Magic Kingdom, then returned to our table to resume our meal. The music and commentary from the show was broadcast at the restaurant. One of us had the grouper at this prix fixe dinner and the others ate the filet beef. The wontons and sushi trio appetizers were good and the chocolate torte, pastry bites, and peanut butter torte for dessert were amazing. Unfortunately, we were seated in a noisy, busy traffic area of the restaurant, but it was a special way to end our Disney World visit.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Disney Dinner
Fantastic food and excellent venue. The staff were really good and attentive and the quality of service was outstanding. The Tomohawk steak was particularly outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyThe magic is coming back
For the past several years I felt as if the magic is dwindling and things are just not as magical as they once were. After my most recent visit to the Disney World's California Grille my faith in Disney is starting to return. My wife and I were able to get a perfect seat at the bar on a very last minute in person reservation on Valentines Day, we were lucky to say the least. Once seated at the bar we were greeted by the bartender (Christine) who was nothing short of amazing! We started out with superb cocktails followed by appetizers, we then were asked if she could choose our dinner choices, without hesitation we agreed. Christine was so excited to do so and she called it her "little game". Here is a women that truly loves what she does and does it flawlessly. Christine in my opinion definitely deserves that coveted blue name tag.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience, mediocre food
It seems like many of the reviews are comparing this place to other Disney restaurants, which is fair but not really accurate. If you have been to an upscale steak and seafood restaurant in any city, the food at California Grill was mediocre at best. I would never pay $100 a person just for the food. The way I see it, I would value the food at $50 a person and then the other half you are paying for the view and access to the observation deck for fireworks regardless of your reservation time. So that's a great deal for a Disney experience, it's just that the food itself is nothing special. For example, the cascade roll was basically what we got the night before at a takeout sushi restaurant for $15. The oak filet of beef was steakhouse quality but some of its components were cold to the touch. The menu descriptions aren't always what is presented. What was called a peanut banana torte was a thick peanut butter pie filling with a few bananas on top. The top layer looked different but lacked any banana flavor. It should have been called a peanut torte and I wouldn't have picked it. The grouper was outstanding with great textures and flavors, and also well presented. The sauce on the pretty beef wonton appetizer was great, but I left all of the filling which was bland and tasteless like stew meat and did not pair well with the rest of the dish. I'd have easily preferred the bag of the frozen wontons I get for $5 and the $2 pint of wonton soup around the corner. The filling would have benefited from less reliance on salt, some kind of vegetable or pieces of ginger, scallion, etc inside. I would have literally preferred a bowl of the garnish and sauce. The chocolate torte also was nothing that you couldn't get for $7 at a local authentic bakery. They gave us some complimentary candies for our honeymoon which was nice. I would have been very upset if we had paid this price for the food we had.
Be the first to ReplyPlan two hours for this service with 20 to 30 minutes between plates
The server was excellent, but the expeditor in the kitchen missed our entree, and when the pork tenderloin and filet arrived they were not good, below average for a mediocre restaurant, The appetizers and dessert were excellent, But with a pre fix menu not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyCan't wait to return!
Our family of 5 had a wonderful first dining experience at California Grille. Our server, Holly, was amazing. We all had the 50th-anniversary set menu with signature wine tasting. The beef wontons were delicious, the filet was cooked to perfection, and the chocolate torte was rich but so good. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and drinks. The atmosphere is lovely and the observation deck to view the firework show from Magic Kingdom was a cool experience. It's a splurge, but completely worth it in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent but pricey restaurant
The California Grill on the top floor of Disneyโs Contemporary Resort is an excellent, top-notch, very expensive restaurant with good service. Some tables have a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. We enjoyed our two white-tablecloth dinners there. I thought the food was better than at these sit down restaurants: the Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom, La Hacienda de San Angel in Epcot and the Brown Derby Hollywood Studios. One night I had very tasty sea bass and a soup. We shared some very good (and pretty) desserts. I canโt recall what I ate the other night. Adjacent to the California Grill is a very narrow rooftop outdoor viewing platform from which restaurant guests (and perhaps hotel guests?) can view the Magic Kingdom fireworks. It might be 50 yards long and 20 feet wide. There are bannisters so it is safe for all ages.

Beautiful view of fireworks. Price Fixe when went. One of best filets ever ate. Cooked perfect temperature. Awesome dumpling appetizer. Desert good but not great. Pricey but worth splurge.
Be the first to ReplyStunning views. Delicious food.
Watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks on the viewing deck before we were seated which was brilliant. The cocktails were great. The sushi trio was fresh and tasty, and the Tomahawk steak was cooked to absolute perfection, wow! Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely Exceptional
Absolutely outstanding! The menu was a prix fix menu and it was perfect. Views, as always, are incredible. The service was exceptional. Dinner was the best meal we had on Disney property. Sushi and the beef dumplings were excellent. The steak and the fish entrees couldnโt have been better. I also had the wine pairing, and I donโt normally do that, but it was awesome. Very impressed with every level of detail.

We had been to California Grill before COVID and it was fantastic! Now the menu selection is limited and not great. So disappointed with the food taste, selection and experience. Way over priced for what you get. The waiter was wonderful, engaging and accommodating
Be the first to Reply50th anniversary menu
My wife and I ate here not too long ago and had an amazing experience. So, with my mom being in town and with the kids we were ready to try this signature restaurant again. The view is amazing, but it poured (not the restaurants fault) Most of us had the wontons to start. Much spicier this time around, but still good. Here's the 2 things I personally had an issue with. Most of us chose the filet and none of them were prepared right, but the most disappointing thing was the service for the price paid. Would have no problem with the bill if our meal tasted like the 1st time we were there. Unfortunately, I probably won't go back. Rather do steakhouse 71.
