Inconsistent food and terrible service
I went to have a late Sunday lunch with my family at Cafe Isan as it was voted best Thai food by timeout. Even though many of the reviews spoke negatively about the space I was ok with it since it showed how passionate and authentic they tried to keep the place. Our server was a young gentleman with a very sweet smile. He was nice and friendly and gave us excellent service but EVERY OTHER STAFF there was surprisingly rude and unprofessional. As soon as we arrived at 2:30 we asked for a table outside and we were denied as they said it is only open from 4pm. Around 3:45 when our main course was arriving we asked once again if there is any possibility of sitting outside and our lovely server took us outside. To my surprise there was already a group of Britishers sitting there and finishing their meal. When I asked why we were denied a table earlier, as it was very obvious that they were serving the group that was finishing their meal, the staff said that it was because it was full inside. This group seated outside was already finishing their meal when our main course was only arriving so it was very clear that they arrived before us. It's always sad to face such realities that white people are given a privilege, or at least that's the way I felt being an Indian. What's the point of commenting on the food when the experience was destroyed by your staff. To top it all off, we ordered 2 portions of mango sticky rice and one had salt while the other had sugar. I mentioned it to one of the staff (a lady) and she outright laughed at my face. Being from the hospitality industry myself, I know how far good service can go. I hope the owner understands the importance of this.
Be the first to ReplyLovely homely Thai restaurant!
What a lovely Thai restaurant. Unpretentious and homely feel. Great range of dishes and very friendly service. All the expected Thai favourites and some new ones. Especially loved the mussels omelette, bamboo salad, pad Thai and curry balls.
Be the first to ReplyGo if you love rude service, rude British owner and to feel uncomfortable whilst eating subpar food.
Owner made us feel so uncomfortable. Awful hospitality. Only go if you want subpar Thai food and to be treated like trash. In summary- ourselves and another family visited with young babies. Owner came over to us both stating they don’t accept children after 7pm (which isn’t stated on any reviews or google maps, and not on their Instagram either), but that she’d allow us as we were there. At the time there was 2 people in the entire restaurant. Location is awful- literally in an apartment tower. No one around and yet came over to tell us we’re not welcome. We order and think ok, food must be good right? Wrong…the starters were burnt to a crisp and tasted like sand. No flavour whatsoever. The drinks also tasted like tap water (quite impressive when they’re fluorescent pink). All mains tasted overwhelmingly of soy sauce. No depth or flavour which is an amazing feat for Thai food. Whilst trying be greatful we are eating, the owner then comes yet again (she was sat on one end of the restaurant, and us at the other end). We were playing a video which was teaching our baby sign language. She comes and asks us to turn it down…. Safe to say it was clear we wernt welcome and it felt like she would continue to harass us if we stayed any longer. Question to the British owner who thinks it’s ok to harass customers - why allow a child into your establishment if it’s clear you detest families? No clue how they got a time out mention but if any of you with families are thinking of visiting (or anyone who appreciates good service) AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Be the first to ReplyNot a friendly place to eat at all
Not friendly at all. We came at 7pm and the owner said they don’t allow kids but will allow us in given we made the journey. We had a 10 month old. There was no one else at the restaurant. So we came in and ordered. Our baby was getting restless so we put on ms Rachel on YouTube and she came up to us and told us to turn it down. It wasn’t even loud and there was no one else in the restaurant. Why ‘allow’ us in the place and then make us feel uncomfortable. We left straight after and even 2 waitresses came up to us and apologised. The food was also very very spicy so even if you do decide to go, be cautious.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Thai food restaurant ever - worst customer service & unprofessional manager
The restaurant, the food and the staff were substandard. Upon giving feedback on a certain food she started to make uncouth remarks and eat at our table to taste the food / spilling the food all over. It was very shocking to see such uncivilized behavior, haven’t seen any hospitality staff behave in such a way in my 20 years in the country. The manager / owner was extremely rude, impolite and literally yelling at the top of her voice. She had a condescending and racist tone. Should I just say that she was extremely unprofessional and anything but hospitable. After all the drama she took the plate away but still charged us for the food. Poor customer service and zero concern for customer satisfaction. I would never visit this restaurant again or recommend anyone.

Fantastic Thai food in a casual setting. Set on a terrace Cafe Isan serves great Thai food. Very friendly staff, a chef who is happy to add extra spice and a liquor license. Highly recommend

Had an incredible experience at cafe isan at their JLT branch . . Their food was absolutely fingerlicking . @cafe Isan is a certified Thai select resturant for using authentic Thai products!! And they are time out winner of best Thai 2021,2022 too 😍 Small but cute restaurant giving you proper Thailand vibes . I tried their best sellers ❤️Spring rolls ❤️vegan Khao soi Noodle curry ❤️Papaya salad ❤️Grilled Satay Chicken ❤️The hustler ❤️Mango sticky rice ❤️Thai iced Milk tea ❤️Thai Lemon Tea I just bowled over their flavors .. each end the Dish was finger licking. food tasted super fresh and very flavorful. Got a chance to meet the owners Ms New and Ms Lisa and they were so humble and very amazing personalities Definitely must visit place for authentic Thai food
Be the first to ReplyWish I had my dinner sewhere else. Wouldn't recommend at all!
This is the first ever bad review I leave for a restuant. I would leave zero stars if I could. Sleepy service, poor food quality, not worth the money, cash only and they got our vegan friend eaten egg! We ordered vegan pad Thai and told them no egg, the dish still came with eggs! He instantly felt sick! Yet the restaurant was hot, you almost feel like you're sitting outdoor. No to mention it's cash only, the closest ATM is 30mins away.
Be the first to ReplyGood Thai Food
We were looking for a fine Thai restaurant and reviews bring us here. We ordered Tom Yum, green curry, som tam, vegetables spring roll and chicken satay; all are tasty and we even asked for more rice. The only thing as room to improve is the plastic utensils, it was a bit hard to cut the chicken satay.
Be the first to ReplyGreat auhtentic Thai lunch
A perfect little place for lunch, inside or outside. Very delicious thai courses and great service. Nice homemade teas also, and affordable prices compared to where we are. “Mild” is quite spicy enough for European taste, remember that :)
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, Authentic Thai Food
Very nice little restaurant tucked away on the ground floor of Cluster B. I really liked the food here, and the cosy atmosphere of the place.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Thai food
Delicious authentic Thai food with a brilliant varied menu and excellent portions. Helpful and friendly staff top off this recommendation for anyone who wants good Thai food.
Be the first to ReplyDescent!!
We were at Cafe Isan last weekend for dinner.
Tried their Tom Yum soup,Chicken Satay,Thai green chicken curry & Pad Thai. Tom Yum soup was lovely. It was perfect for the weather, Hot spicy & full of flavors.Highly recommend it.Chicken Satay was just average.Thai Chicken Curry & Pad Thai was good.
Such an unredeemable meal/place. Avoid!
Wish I could give it ZERO stars.
Worst thai food ever (special mention to the ‘pad thai’: worst one I have ever tasted in my life, absolutely inedible). Actually, make it worst food ever, full stop.
Horrible service (complained about the inedible pad thai and they had the audacity of charging us for it).
Horrible place (tatty, tacky, dingy, no AC but a very annoying fan, plastic cuttlery and a radio blasting the most obnoxious music at full volume).
One of the worst meals of my life. Honestly, can’t think of a single redeemable feature about this place.
Do yourself a favour and avoid it like the plague.
Tastey & Fresh Thai Food
Definitely recommend this hidden spot. Food is fresh and tastey, staff are outgoing and fun. You will feel your back in Thailand for the Thai lovers!
Be the first to ReplyCosy place with Pattaya vibes
Lovely place in Armada Hotel JLT. Everything we ordered was delicious. Service is prompt and the decor was simple with serious Pattaya vibes. This is a licensed restaurant and gets really busy. Best to go early if dining as a family, as we did. Look forward to returning and sampling other things on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Thai Isan food
Great Thai Isan food with traditional Thai food but also dishes you won't find in other Thai restaurants.
Service is super friendly and prices very reasonable.
