50 for a regular glazed donut, I can not in good conscience support your business. It may sound ridiculous but it's deeper than that just being outraged at the price of something that should, in principle, always be cheap.I don't care about inflation, overhead, or whatever litany of reasons restaurants so often give, if you are charging damn near $5 for a glazed donut, you are ripping people off, particularly in a historically working class neighborhood. If you want to charge $15, $16 for sandwiches with specialty meats, by all means go right ahead, but my problem with so many of these "hipster", asthetically driven foodie spots popping up in gentrified neighborhoods across America is that I know they view themselves as being thoroughly of the left. Progressive. Of the artist. In truth, these places are as capitalist driven as the yuppies they view as their opposites and are a huge part of the problem with America. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the food is delicious and expertly made. Go buy their food if you feel so inclined. But if you're charging $4.50 for a glazed donut, you can take a hike.
