Perfect service and very tasty food
It’s a unique experience, not the usual Michelin star restaurant. The service is perfect, nothing is too much. Staff are engaging and dis robe the food very well. The open kitchen is like a show . The bread with anchovies is exceptionally good . I enjoyed my duck and rice , the wine selection is interesting. We had a very good Sancerre and some champagne to start with. It was a treat , not our usual diner. Worth every penny !!!
Be the first to ReplyBrat, you Brat
Brat has just earned its Star. The food was good but I felt like the quality of the beef was not great with allot of fat. The beef did have a good smokey flavor. Dover sole was on the dry side fro cooking on the grill. Excellent wine list and decent cocktails. Service was excellent!
Be the first to ReplyVery good, but not excellent
Good, but perhaps didn’t quote live up to the hype. Service was friendly, sommelier in particular was knowledgable and we never felt there was any intentional ‘upsell’. Great wine list, interesting and reasonably priced. We started with oysters and both had multiple large shards of shell in which made for unpleasant eating. Shame, as the flavour was great. Steak tartare was up there with the best I’ve had, I’m glad we ordered toasted bread to go with as bitter leaves didn’t have the heft to support it. The signature pillowy bread (we went for the cheese and leek version) is indeed a showstopper and a must-have if you’re here. Scallop had great flavour but was a little overcooked and, at £14 for one, pretty expensive. Mussels were a little gritty but we loved the addition of citrus to the beautiful sauce. Turbot was delicious - potatoes and peppers ordered for sides were tasty but very very oily. Overall a nice night, glad we went, but we probably would not return. Prices reflect the Michelin star rating but not, in our opinion, the cooking or experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat unique menu, a great experience too, fantastic service to match
This place is a must visit, dishes here are incredible and unique. Definitely an experience not just a meal. Huge thanks to chef here whom works very hard using seasonal foods. The service was so good, a friendly relaxed feel, and nothing is too much if you need anything. Duck rice and cheesecake were really lovely, bread and onion butter was really nice too. Thank you Brat we will be back x

Everything was exceptional. The food was delicious, the drinks were made well and the service was top notch. The restaurant is amazing.
Be the first to ReplyNeighbourhood restaurant that is no brat.
Lived up to the hype. Friendly, attentive staff. Food was incredible - bread with burnt butter, delicious wines. Courses arrived in no particular order but were absolutely wonderful - each dish a revelation. Steak, Squid and duck rice were stand outs. Some tables are close together but it has a sharing vibe and ambiance that it doesn't really matter.
Be the first to ReplyStill issues with food sequence
Cramped table with seating so close to the next table. For starters, Oyster was too sweet. Anchovy on flat bread was excellent Bread with sardine was good as was Squid with beans. Mussels was good - could have had more Mussel that was open as a number were shut and small portion for the price. The Pigeon skewer was good - small amount of meat- breast and hardly any on the leg. Beef rib - over done unfortunately with excessive amount of fat. Wood fire green was good. Service was good. Negroni was average as was martini. More thought need to be given to order of dishes as serving pigeon and then squid as not great for sequence of taste on the palate.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing dinner
Amazing dinner at a Michelin star restaurant. The turbot, dover sole, beef sirloin, aged mutton and beef rib are really great. One of the best meals.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible!
Awful service, pretentious and genuinely rude. It felt like a complete waste of time and money, with no reason to pay heavy bills for simple food and for non-exciting service. What is all this hype about?!
Be the first to Reply5 star experience
Simply amazing. Would highly recommend the sardines on toast and squash with cheese. Service was 5 star from all staff and our waiter, who we didn’t catch the name of, but was lovely and beyond attentive. The restaurant oozed sophistication and style, and the desserts were delicious also.
Be the first to ReplyA bit far from the city center, but worth the trip.
I love restaurants in London and consider this city to be one of the culinary capitals of the world. This restaurant is one of the gems of London. Don't let its interior scare you off. Bare tables without tablecloths, a bit worn floor, no curtains, open fireplace for cooking with sooty pans and so on. Despite all that, BRAT- is one of the best restaurants I've been to in the past year. Everything on the menu is delicious, but I especially recommend getting the large turbo for 3-4 people. I assure you, you've never had anything like it before.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic restaurant in Shoreditch
The best restaurant we've visited in London. Was treated to a birthday meal here - fantastic service, great vibe, good menu and brilliant wine selection. My girlfriend is a vegetarian - the chef made up a bowl of fresh vegetables that was utterly delicious! Will absolutely return (although have to book far in advance!)
Be the first to ReplyExpectations maybe a bit too high?
Service was good overall inspite of being jammed seating right next to each other since the place is understandably small. Started with bread with anchovies, which was quite tasty. Langoustine is also tasty but quite tiny and the scallops with seaweeds may need more enhancement. As for the mains, we ordered the velvet crab, lemon sole and the pork dish. Other than the pork dish, nothing really stood out. We’re quite disappointed with their famous turbot, which we’re told had run out for the night and purposely why we booked Brat?
Be the first to ReplyQuite a disappointing experience
It did not start well, upon arrival we were standing a good 10 minutes in the entrance before one of the many busy but quite ineffective servers (which we will find out later) deigns to keep an eye on us. Once sited on the laps of four neighbors (2 on the right, 2 on the left): probably the so-called coziness of Tables d'hotes ? Starter was ok, tiny Langoustine (note to the Chef, as far as Langoustines are concerned Big is beautiful) , well cooked though, good Crab salad (hand made as we could see....), an then the nightmare started: one hour and twenty minutes waiting for a grilled Turbot. In some restaurant , it might have been acceptable, but keep in mind that in this eatery, your neighbors are on your lap . When we enquired, one of the very busy server told us that it was a "big fish", really?. I think that I ate close to 12 Turbots last year and cooking them did not (should not) take more than 40 minutes. so in any decent Michelin star restaurant once the starter was served, the Turbot should be grilling already. We were hopping for some Magic after such a long wait, honestly very disappointing: a (good quality) grilled Turbot which does not have the "grilled" taste. I recommend the team to watch the Hof Van Cleve recipe, very inspiring. The most ridiculous was when one of the very busy waiter told me that I could put some lemon on my fish (and what about salt and pepper? can I?) , an optional home made beanaise might have been more appropriate for a ... 150£ fish
Be the first to ReplyNot Worth the Star !!
Working in the hospitality in London I heard great stuff about this place and so booked 2 month ahead. Our visit was incredibly disappointing. Can’t understand where the Michelin star comes from !! No reception Tables all next to each other (had to complaint on arrival to get a slightly more private table). Service incredibly slow. For the first time in my life had to find myself removing service charge as it was not justified. Paper napkins on the table. Really ? No explanation of menu or food when served Starters were small and pretty much tasteless. Not to mention how expensive they were. £ 15.50 for a langoustine with 10 grams meat inside is a joke. Don’t bother visiting this place at all.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome
This concept is a very interesting and includes seasonal products in inspirational cuisine. Fresh fish, vegetables … a brilliant wine list! Hurray!
Be the first to ReplyPerfectly cooked meats and fish
Was a little surprised at just how close the tables were but we just shrugged and got on with ordering. The restaurant was packed on a Monday evening and we ended up chatting occasionally with the tables on either side. Not a bad dish was ordered. A few I would say exceptional. Definitely order the cheesecake. Staff very good. I left the wine choice (by the glass) up to them and was pleasantly surprised. Not cheap but why are you going here now if you want a budget meal? All in all a really enjoyable evening.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful solo experience
Wonderful restaurant to visit on your own, especially for a destination meal. I sat at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed watching the whirl of the restaurant work around me.it won’t be for everyone, but for me it was heaven. My waiter was amazing, helping me maximise my experience by showing where I could take half portions and try more dishes. The wine pairings were exceptional. Service is not fast, it is relaxed, and I was ready for relaxed. Don’t go for a pre-theatre lunch. Go to fully absorb and enjoy the lunch experience. Sit, drink, digest and watch. You won’t regret it. The finest two hours of dining I have had in an age.
Be the first to ReplyA great experience but not for everyone
I’d read the TA reviews beforehand so had a feel for the setting / style / ambiance etc. There’s only about 40-50 covers in a small area hence why the tables are ‘canteen’ style. The restaurant is on the first floor. We had a really enjoyable evening. Service was good, food amazing, wines by the bottle or glass and were varied (a hefty markup though!) We arrived at 5.30 and didn’t leave until 9pm. We ordered a variety of dishes and shared them (tapas style). Waiting for the turbot (absolutely delicious) and veal took awhile with apologies from the staff. It was a great experience. I’d strongly suggest reading reviews before you book, so you go prepared for a wait between dishes, expense, closeness of tables and it’s noisy but fun!

Unexpectedly one of the best dining experiences in London. Simple, but extremely tasty Scandinavian cooking plus comprehensive and quite reasonably priced wine list. Great and friendly service. Cosy atmosphere, maybe a bit noisy, but bearable. Highly recommended!!
Be the first to ReplyBasque tapas - lovely
I was recommended to go to Brat from an old fried who is also a chef and had a lovely meal there. The restaurant is on the 1st floor over a pub and the room still has the old wooden wall panels from its previous life as a pub, Next to the first floor entrance on the right is the cooking area - not so much a kitchen more a BBQ. The dining area is large with wooden tables and benches all quite close together. The menu has a range of appetizers, starters & main course which are all designed to be shared which is a bit of a pain if you are eating as i was on my own. However following my servers recommendations I started with the spider crab toast & the langoustines, The spider crab toast came as 2 pieces of crispy bread covered with a thin layer of crab & then topped with a mound of lettuce & cabbage. It was lovely but I could have done with a bit more of the crab. The langoustine were 2 langoustine cut in half & lightly BBQed - again lovely. For my main course I chose the duck with a side salad & smoked potatoes. This is a restaurant that likes serving smoked or burnt dishes as the menu also included burnt cheesecake & burnt onion butter. The duck was lovely - 4 slightly pink slices of duck breast with a separate piece of thigh. The potato portion was far too much for one person as was the salad so there was quite a lot left over. I decided on a dessert & chose the olive oil ice cream which was amazing . The service was excellent despite the restaurant being very busy & all the servers who served me were friendly & professional - they were no longer pauses between the courses and overall it was a lovely meal but next time I will make sure I take someone with me.
Be the first to ReplyPossibly a case of all hype and little substance.
We were show to the middle of a long table, with groups at both ends. Since I was not able to hear my partner talk to me and cannot lipread yet, we asked to be moved to the bar, and the waitress duly complied. I wonder why they cram people on these long tables when half the restaurant is empty? It might have been cool for some people before the pandemic but rubbing shoulders with total strangers is no longer my idea of fun, especially when this is more a stylistic choice rather than a necessity.
The menu is quite short, and we did not see the alleged Basque influence. I understand that the menu changes frequently though, so maybe it is the case on some days.
The cocktails are served in very small glasses, out of a doll house, so we decided to skip them altogether. We ordered wine instead, but while we were discussing options with the sommelière, the first appetiser arrived. The waitress, rather than go back to the kitchen and keep it warm, decided to squeeze herself in between us and drop the load. This was an unfortunate decision, and even more so since the appetiser arrived rather cold (a crab soup with mussels). The lambchop was cooked well but rather bland, and the crab toast even blander. The sirloin steak was very good but eye wateringly expensive.
The pub-like décor is alright but nothing to write home about. No tablecloths. Service can be attentive or aloof, depending on the person, and although there are lots of them, there seems to be little organisation.
We won’t hurry back, since one can reasonably expect more from a Michelin starred restaurant.
Wife's celabratory 60th birthday
Recommended by our very good friend, who joined us, we came to this restaurant with open minds, as ever.
The first floor restaurant is well planned and tables and bar area positioned well.
The menu is Basque Tapas based in idea. Wine list enormous, a tad overpriced.
Attention to detail lacking, cheap cutlery, crockery, glassware. No linen, though in keeping with the style of restaurant, reasonably comfortable seating.
Sharing style menu is something we enjoy.
Whole Turbot for main was truly memorable and simply but perfectly cooked.
Anchovy flat bread sensational. Langoustine a tad skinny but well cooked.
There is a smoked and burnt butter flavour that emanates through alot of the dishes which may not be to everyone's taste. In fact it overpowered our spider crab starter where I couldn't taste the crab at all.
Ambience was fantastic on a Saturday afternoon.
Staff hard working, helpful and friendly.
Uniform a little untidy. Black pinny would have complimented.
Altogether I would highly recommend heading over to Shoreditch.
Well done BRAT!!!
Eat out in Shoreditch
Lovely ambience - lively, energised. You sit close together but that’s not intrusive.
Fantastic flavoursome starters; and a hunk of bread with burnt onion butter. Delicious.
Wine by the glass; perfect to experiment with lesser known countries.
The beef was well cooked. The sides a little disappointing. Not sure why. The baked cheesecake was lovely.
sizzling
Fantastic English chargrilled tapas. Tucking in as a group to oysters, lamb chops, dover sole et al with some fantastic side salads. The wine list is a joy with it's unsung heroes options.
