Disappointing
I wanted to love the experience, but found it lacking. It was hard to get excited about a baby carrot and vegetable bulb with sprigs of greens. This was followed by minuscule pieces of lamb and lukewarm vegetables. The service is stellar, but the food was disappointing and pricey.

The tour if youโre doing it is lots of walking so donโt wear heels or hard shoes. This is a great escape from city but if youโre driving that means not too much drinking. Itโs also a drag to drive after a full meal when I just want to go to bed. There needs to be more and bigger signs within the property because driving there and leaving were chores. Everyone very friendly and courteous. I didnโt really understand the veggies inside a case because the server unlocked it but didnโt open the case and so I wasnโt sure if Iโm supposed to eat since some restaurants do this as a display for add ons. Some ppl may enjoy visiting kitchen later in the night but I thought it was a bit weird eating in the kitchen while everyone else working hard. I also didnโt want to move away from my comfy, quiet seat to a noisy kitchen. They also give you a pouch of utensils which I had to open and take out which seems a bit tedious for me. Other than some cured meats and freshly baked bread, menu is mostly veggies AND raw veggies. While chomping on raw veggies, I was thinking the chefs here must be so happy. Hardly any cooking here. If youโre vegan or vegetarian then youโll love it here because these are some of the best veggies I ever eaten and veggies at raw state is like eating rare steak, simply the best way to eat it. I felt some dishes like dessert was much too big. Letโs not have large dishes for tasting menu since that means Iโll be too full to continue eating. It was very difficult to get a reservation here but this trouble and steep price tag was not worth the effort or price. We are talking about veggies and breads which are poor ppl food. They preach sustainable food but itโs not sustainable for my walket.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience
We went with two other couples for a late November dinner/tasting menu experience. We began with a tour of the farm, and what followed was an over twenty course meal including two courses in the kitchen watching the chefs at work. Each course was amazing, thoughtful, and explained thoroughly. We left feeling stuffed. Every staff member was very nice, helpful, and all seemed to enjoy their work. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough. The price is what I would expect to pay for what was a 6 hour total experience of a lifetime. Thank you Blue Hill!
Be the first to ReplyOverrated Cuisine, Extremely Small Portions
Attended a wedding. Had heard so many great things about the food and was expecting a great experience. Couldn't have been farther from the truth. 3 courses, one with a single ravioli. Main course was beef, no other option. Four from my table asked for a non-beef alternative.....we were given a half of zucchini with drizzled soy sauce! The total amount of our supposed dinner didn't equal a good appetizer passing at other functions.....Very similar experience I had once at an over hyped restaurant in the city that charged a fortune for mostly no food. The people at my table that were served the beef entree, received extremely rare meat, something that few people really order.

This place was a trailblazer in the farm-to-table movement back in the day. It is a stunning property, meticulously maintained. Stopped in on a Sunday (after paying an access fee online) on the way back from a nearby hike. Lovely, hilly grounds to roam around on, tasty treats for purchase at the cafe for breakfast. I believe even casual lunch is only available prix fixe pre order, and dinner is a whole separate experience, reservations for sure.. There is a farm market next to the cafe, very pricey but excellent quality. An interesting experience IF you are in the area. The crowd tends toward local hedge funders on holiday. Ample parking, restrooms avail, covid precautions in place by staff in Aug. ADA access.
Be the first to ReplyPretentious and a waste of money.
Recently gave Blue Hill at Stone Barns another chance and was completely underwhelmed. On the plus side, the venue and service is extraordinary but the price, cuisine and experience were all underwhelming. Iโve eaten at amazing restaurants all over the World and never have flinched at a price but this plate is simply absurd. First, they charge your card nearly $500 a person just to reserve a table. Then, you are subjected to a ridiculously long 5 or 6 hour meal with small underwhelming courses of home grown vegetables (with great explanations) and a few very small and average entree courses with a meal that goes on forever. When you leave youโre presented with a bill that is so large that you feel like a sucker. If I want to spend that much for an average meal, albeit an otherwise enjoyable experience, Iโll fly to Paris. I wouldnโt step foot in the place again if they paid me the $3000 I spent for dinner. Feel like a sucker. Stay away unless you want a five hour average meal and feel like pouring money down the drain. Utterly ridiculous.
Be the first to Replyexpensive and pretentious
I was there on what must have been an off day, but found it very expensive and not incredible for the price. It was also a long drive to get there, as I live in lower Westchester. I try to eat natural foods without chemicals, so was hopeful that this would be amazing, so my disappointment is the reason for the poor rating. I wish it could have been better, but will stick to my local small family owned restaurants from now on.
Be the first to ReplyCommunity Table Experience was a Wonder
If you can't get into the main restaurant try booking at the wonderful community table experience. Nothing but farm-fresh ingredients and matched wine pairings at an all-inclusive price and casual setting
Be the first to ReplyAn experience in totality but food underwhelming
My husband and I recently visited with a tour and dining package. The tour was very interesting and I would recommend it to others. Both the farm and restaurant guides were very engaging. Overall I would say that the patron interaction from all we met was exceptional. The service was a good as any place I have been. The dining room in the barn was lovely and the bar area very welcoming. A nice touch to the dining is the trip to the kitchen although since we had taken the tour it was duplicative. Recommend you trach who took the tour and what information was shared and what vegetables tasted.
The dinner itself was not memorable. I rarely do not finish a dish but there were several that I found too bitter especially the side with the pheasant main course. The breast of the pheasant was delicious but the thigh pieces too fatty. The fish course, scallops prepared two different ways was very good. However, the rest of the plates were primarily raw vegetables and bread. Our daughter had dined also in the winter but pre-covid. She documented her menu with pictures. She enjoyed more cooked vegetables and more inventive presentations. Desserts were tasty but very minimalist at our visit and hers. They left me wanting something more substantive than a baked apple with a dollop of ice cream.
At the time I thought I would revisit in a different season but upon further reflection that is unlikely. In addition to this I was surprised and disappointed they did not ask to see our Covid vaccine cards.
Wedding plans that fell through
We were excited to have our wedding at Blue Hill after hearing wonderful reviews since great food was a top priority for us. After two months of me chasing down the event manager there, I still did not have a finalized contract. Weeks would go by with no response from them. I had to repeatedly call and email in order to check what the status was. They would miss calls they scheduled with me and there would be no updates on next steps. I eventually gave up. I'm sure if you end up having your wedding there, it will be magical. But I couldn't get past the frustrations of the working relationship.

We scored a last minute reservation for dinner. Food and service were first rate. Dinner was imaginative and full of flavors. Wine pairings and cocktails were excellent. Not a meal for the budget conscious.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best dining experiences we have ever had.
It was definitely one of the best fine dining experiences we have ever had in the world. We watched the episode of Chef Table about Dan Barber, the chef of Blue Hill At Stone Barns, and were impressed by his vision.
The farm was magnificent with historical buildings. Only outdoor dining was available and the decor is elegant & classic. The staff was super polite & friendly; the speech before we were seated was motivational and touching.
During the pandemic, they brainstormed to bring back their passion after a short close down. What we experienced was a temporary, kind of like a pop-up version but still with all the hard work and effort from the team.
The food was currently served in a special picnic style, bread, appetizers, salad and dessert were prepared in advance by tables and limited dishes served in person with social distancing.
- In the picnic basket: Salad, bread and spread on the top level; appetizer, dessert and fruit on the bottom level.
- Entree: Grilled pork and signature butter squash
- Dessert: Jelly milk and chocolate cookies
All the ingredients were fresh with the best quality, especially the veggies. Their food was overall delicious and what really surprised us were the miso spray for the bread & the jelly milk.
We had a really great time and definitely recommended others to visit for the once in a life time experience. However, itโs quite difficult to do the reservation and make sure to check every Wednesday morning at 9:00am for the following week available time slots.
Eating out in covid times
I would really like to justify the price of $$$ but I cannot, I could honestly have produced a more exciting menu, I realize these are awful times, and I do want these places to survive, but a few different salad items with no dressing, slices of ham, cous cous salad so sour that itโs hard to eat, Dutch cheese out of Wisconsin, the two things on the menu we did like were the been bundle and tuna tartare, but that wasnโt $$$$$ worth.... service was a bit weird, I do realize that itโs corona times but spent summer in Europe and there are ways to do this without making it so awkward. The result was that dessert, a goats cheese and berry something was really not that much fun after a few hours in picnic basket in the relative warmth. Iโm sorry, the setting is fantastic, but the quality of food is not worth it!
Be the first to ReplyA True Farm-to-Table Experience
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is a true farm-to-table experience in a beautiful Rockefeller farm estate. The rolling hills and stone barns are impressive.
The food basket was excellent. Signature cocktails, delicious. Salads and appetizers fresh. Main course was small but well prepared.
Tables were well distanced and staff had masks and gloves at all times.
The cost is outrageous. I cannot see going back anytime soon.
Greatly disappointing food with a side of miserable service.
My wife and another couple went with us to Blue Hill at Stone Barns for their "Picnic" offering. We were all excited to go as the 4 of us regularly go out to try new restaurants. The ambiance was pleasant, with a fine-dining-rustic feel. We could tell that some thought was put into the idea of the presentation which was interesting. However when it came to the food and service, that was another story.
The service was near non-existent. We wanted to look at the wine list, and yet there was no one to ask. We never had a waiter check in on us without us being the one to flag them down, often after a 20-30+ minute waits. After flagging on down the waiter only pointed out that there were 3 wines at different prices. Mind you there were no names, or description of what the wines were asides from Red, White, Rose, and only the prices. No sommelier to explain in depth, or even a name or region or grape. They never cleared our plates, or gave us new plates as we cleared our own and put into the basket next our table. This led to our only plates having many dishes worth of flavors and residues combining in unpleasant ways. When the basket was overflowing that we had emptied our own dishes into it was never emptied. We were never visited with inquires as to how we were enjoying things from the very elusive waitstaff. I think I now understand why the tip was included before we even sat down.
One could overlook all of this if the food was good.. although the food itself just was either mediocre and or straight-up not palatable. As we were two couples the two husbands helped finish their respective wives meals. We could tell that the cuisant/doneness of the fish and steak were inconsistent, to the point that they tasted like different dishes. The food itself hard a very weak theme, although lacked cohesiveness between the 3 courses and within courses as well.
In short for the 4 of us, despite coming in with excitement and an open mind left with disappointment and a bitter-taste. I can only presume the chefs that created the gastronomic experience that many have lauded has either left and been replaced by lesser cooks (not chefs) or they've had their will to prepare good meals leave them.
I believe I've now spent more effort writing this review than both the servers and the chefs put into the dinner.
I especially liked presentation
Artists, lots of them, all talented. Keen eyes and appreciation for all the senses. As a vendor I was a guest and treated to the widest range of looks. An incredible, memorable experience. The stone barns themselves display in full force the geological profile of the northeastern landscape.
