Flew from California to visit friends just to get horrible service from Mackenzie (however you spell it) her attitude was disrespectful and she was rude. They way the other reviews sounded so good don't let her ruin your name
Be the first to ReplyThe food was phenomenal and we had fantastic service.
Our waiter, CJ, was attentive and offered great suggestions for both food and drink. The manager Zorin stopped by the table a couple of times to make sure that our meal was going well. Would highly recommend the butternut squash ravioli. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyFood is definitely interesting and well thought out.
The service was absolutely horrendous - it took 25min to get seated and we had an 8:45pm reservation. Clearly a very hectic situation in the kitchen and waiters/waitresses.... Hemant stepped in and saved the day with us and the tables around us - what an amazing guy, Blackbarn is blessed to have him!

J. Was so fantastic in attentiveness, fun, and providing suggestions. Great place for brunch!

I celebrated my 40th birthday with a group of friends and reserved The Chef's Table. The worst decision of my life was making reservations here. First, for the price of such an exclusive table, the chef never introduced himself to me - the guest of honor and person paying the majority of fees - nor the table. Secondly, none of the dishes were announced; the waiters rushed each plate while serving us: cold rack of lamb, dry BBQ ribs and flavorless pizza. Not to mention several other dishes that were subpar at best. The waiters would mumble to us then retreat back into the kitchen. My party planner was charged an enormous erroneous fee because apparently Blackbarn thinks black, professional patrons are "loud and unruly". She was falsely charged for absolutely nothing. We were a table comprised of CFOs, SVPs of major firms and city officials - why would we conduct ourselves as "loud and unruly"?! Thankfully, after speaking with one of the managers the following week, she was reimbursed. But not before him telling us that his waitress - a black female that was the only saving grace that night - was poorly tipped. Um, why is the most expensive reservation not kicking back it's fees to the main waitress' overall final tip? And why is their poor business model for their staff the problem of the guests - who left more than 20%?? I would advise NO ONE RESERVE THE CHEF TABLE. Not worth the money, aggravation, nor grief.

It was amazing, I got the tuna salad and I asked them for a spicy salsa and some chopped jalapeños, and it was bomb

The service was extremely slow, took the server 45 minutes to take our drink order and an hour and a half to take our food order. Management didn't seem to worry about the long wait for service, mind you there wasn't a wait and half of the tavern was empty. The food was amazing! But other than that, the cocktails were average at best and bartenders didn't seem to be versed in traditional cocktails like an Irish coffee. Would get food to go as it was awesome but would not return in hopes of a good dining experience.

The food here is amazing! you have to get the pork rib sliders when sitting in the tavern area. The tavern is cozy and dining room is beautiful depending on what you want! definitely come here!
Be the first to ReplyThis has to be one of the best places I've been to so far
This has to be one of the best places I've been to so far in the city. The ambiance, the service was amazing. The menu is not huge but let me tell you what is on the menu is done well and very well put together . The margarita was amazing 10/10 . They brought out an assortment of bread and that was great and fresh as well. The duck dish was incredible and so tender ! The bone marrow not pictures was to die for and so we'll seasoned and Cooke to perfection! The octopus was part of the small plates and let me tell you just wow a must get... smokey and yet so fresh. The ribs were by far the biggest in portion and tender full of sauce and flavor the only comment for this dish is the fries were too thin that grabbing them was so impractical and perhaps making them a tad larger in width would tie the dish together and bring it up to a 10/10. The sides were huge so keep this in mind when ordering this.... The star of the show was the truffle gnocchi as far as sides go! The Brussels sprouts were great in taste just a tad bit soggy , personally would love them a little more crispy ! Overall this restaurant is on the nicer side with a bit higher pricing but very worth it ! A must try if you are in town !

I hadn't been back to the Black Barn in about five years and I am pleased to say it has maintained its standards. Everything was good. Service was good too. It is a nice atmosphere for a crowd. It is basically a simple menu, but well done.
Be the first to ReplyA friend from Yelp wanted to check out this spot for a few
A friend from Yelp wanted to check out this spot for a few months so I agreed to go with about two weeks ago. I've heard of BlackBarn before and I think it was from a taste of tennis event but I'm not entirely sure what I ate that they represented. My guess is a slider of some variety. I do remember them being one of the better restaurants. Going to preface this with its a bit pricey but the ambiance in part you're paying for. It's a beautiful restaurant. Open and airy as if you're in a barn, yet modern and adjacent to Madison Square Park. They had live jazz music playing on a Saturday afternoon. I think they were temporarily not doing brunch on Sundays so we had to coordinate that. Cocktails are somewhat steep but you could squeeze my arm to splurge on a ten dollar beer. I went with just a Blue Point winter lager. It paired nicely with the burger. They do have a pretty decent happy hour that includes Saturdays. Shame it wasn't happy hour time when I went! lol. But 4:30-6:30pm all draft beers are $8, house wine $12, Mule cocktails $14, and discounts on a few appetizers. Back to the burger. It's an angus beef burger with pork belly, fried egg, jalapeno, gruyere, bbq sauce, and a side of parmesan fries. Is it the best burger I've ever had? I've had numerous close to being best burgers. But the answer sadly is no. But it's definitely up there as being a superior burger to many. The meat tasted of pretty good quality. It was cooked almost to my liking but could have been a smidge rarer. I feel these days chefs are nervous to cook and serve bloody meat but please, do so. Gruyere is the optimal of cheeses usually for burgers and pasta. That was nice as well as the runny egg and the sauces and the barest hint of jalapeno. A well thought-out myriad of flavors and spices that hit the right notes. The brioche bun was just the perfect vehicle for this beast. The fries of typical medium-thin cut were done crispy and had an interesting exterior of crunch. My friend got the exact same thing minus the beer. I think she enjoyed it but had a similar response in that it was a great burger but probably not the best ever.I'm glad with what I ordered because I can't justify spending a ton of money on a breakfast sandwich and the chicken and waffles while appealing looked tiny. It was a nice experience. Delicious. I'm just not a fan of spending $10-15 extra on something that I can find elsewhere for close to the same quality if not better. I did enjoy everything though and highly recommend coming in for happy hour. Heck, I'm definitely tempted to come back. Worth checking out and keeping on your radar for sure!
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place! It has been on my list of places to try
Loved this place! It has been on my list of places to try before COVID happened so I was happy to see that they re-opened afterwards. The restaurant itself is split into two rooms. The front portion is called the Tavern; this is where the bar and about half of the dining tables are. There is also a fancier back room which I believe is closer to the open kitchen. I'd recommend making a reservation; definitely a great place for a nice date night or business dinner.I sat at the bar and ordered the house red wine $12 (which was a smoky cab sav) since it was happy hour. Happy hour, according to the sign on the wall, is 4:30-6:30pm. They have a few food options for happy hour as well; all $14. Diego was the bartender and was super friendly. He recommended the truffle gnocchi and the brussel sprouts which I ordered and enjoyed! The gnocchi was super rich and filling; a great dish to share. The restaurant didn't really get busy until 8pm on a Friday, but there were still plenty of tables available. They also have private rooms available for parties and larger dinners/gatherings.I am eager to come back for dinner and hopefully sit in the back room near the kitchen! Check this place out!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and fabulous wine list.
Had my team dinner here and everyone loved!Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyCame here specifically for the restaurant week deal.
$60 for app entre and dessert and was very satisfied! The place is very cute, reminds me of a Vermont restaurant and VERY spacious. My girlfriend and I basically had our own section. The service and food were great.

My friend and I decided to go to Blackbarn for brunch on a chilly day in December. They had outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant but since it was a bit windy we opted to sit inside. I'll start by saying that the restaurant is extremely spacious. When you walk inside the first thing you notice is the long bar on the right hand side followed by two open dining spaces (one in the front and one towards the back). We asked to be seated in the front section since they had live jazz playing within that area. our servers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Since it was still early I decided to order their version of chicken and waffles. A more modern take to the classic brunch dish, it's presentation was on point. Nevertheless, it was one of the best chicken and waffle dishes I've had to date! I'd recommend coming here for brunch, but it also looks like a good option for both lunch and dinner. I'll definitely be coming back here again sometime in the near future.
Be the first to ReplyI'm disappointed about my experience at Blackbarn.
The ambiance was lacking. My girlfriend and I were seated in what felt like the children's section. The tables were strangely small and the lights were far too bright. I understand staying with a theme but this was a bit excessive. Since we were in a hit of a rush, we kept our order small: two "stable boys", Mac and cheese croquettes, butternut squash ravioli, and shared the cod. The most edible was the ravioli. Everything else was incredibly bland. Money is not an object when it comes to experiencing good food; however, i regretfully paid for this meal.

Ambience:Really lovely, nice lighting, and good customer serviceFood: Complimentary corn bread: very tasty, nice sweet topJohnny cakes: not as sweet as expected probably would have preferred the pancakes. Very cornmealy Chipotle bacon steak: MUST TRY, best dish we had Lamb: high quality lambAvocado toast: thumbs up, very flavorful Chimichurri steak sandwich: horrible Raviolo: very rich Overall the food was very hit or miss. Some items were great like the bacon and the avocado toast, the others we would have rather done without
Be the first to ReplyJohnny Cakes and a Stable Boy is my go to brunch option.
The staff are lovely and so accomodating of families.
Be the first to ReplyService was weak dirty dishes left on table slow service
Service was weak dirty dishes left on table slow service which can be explained by being short staffed. brunch was at best ok. farmers omelette was so salty from the sausage that we couldn't finish it. Used to be a great place.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic! I ussually never ordered hamburger and pizza
Fantastic! I ussually never ordered hamburger and pizza in a restaurant but we kept hearing people asking about it and it did not disappoint. it was so delicious and also their pork sandwich . But what impressed us the most is the food in the main dining room. The grilled NY steak is better than the other steak houses where we have eaten. The crispy skin sea bass is to die for. You can tell the Chef takes pride in what He does it shows in the taste and the way the food is presented. Went back 2 times already since they opened after the pandemic . Recommended to friends who were all happy with the food and service
