Enjoyable but Pricey
Like the rest of the world, we hadnt been out for a romantic meal for 2 in a long time. My overall review of Bistro one would be very positive from all aspects of service, atmosphere, covid safety protocols and a genuinely enthusiastic and warm owner who couldnt do enough to ensure everything was to your satisfaction. My only disappointment was that the menu was very pricey for the qulaity and quantity of fare offered. A crab starter at €16 did not represent good value for money nor did a main course of Halibut at €34....? we had a voucher which helped ease the burden of paying the bill. That said, lets focus on the positives....great service, very pleasant owner (natural at hospitality as it should be) and really nice ambience and atmosphere in the premises. I do appreciate that hospitality businesses have a lot of ground to make up on lost revenues, however, once the food represents good value for money, this restaurant has all the other ingredients right to make for a very pleasant night out.....
Be the first to ReplySunday lunch at Bistro One
Myself, my wife and our son visited Bistro One for Sunday lunch recently. We had the three course lunch. I had the Black Pudding for starter which was really excellent. For mains my son had Bacon and Cabbage, I had the Roast Beef and my wife the Hake. Each of us really enjoyed our meals which were delicious. I tried the home made Christmas pudding for desert with custard. It was like my aunt used to make when I was young, a really moist and fruity Christmas pudding. The Christmas pudding can be bought separately to bring home.
The owner and the serving staff are very friendly and the owner made the point of thanking each guest for their support during these difficult times. Most of the dinners on the day I visited were locals and the owner knew many by name.
This is a really nice local restaurant with fresh produced sourced each day. A bit of a hidden gem and to be totally recommended.
Amazing

The dessert was heavenly 🍰
Fantastic Food
The food was amazing. I spotted the fillet in the board and debated whether I’d be able for a 10 ounce. So I’d no starter, no bread and ordered the fillet medium. I can honestly say it was the best steak I’ve ever tasted, just melt in the mouth. The trimmings bernaise sauce, lettuce with Parmesan shavings and the fries, that I as a coeliac could eat made it truly amazing meal. My husband and our guests were equally impressed with the beautiful food. Continued success now that business has started to open up. We look forward to eating at Bistro 1 soon again.
Be the first to ReplyPretty poor dinner
Went here for dinner with a colleague/friend. We tried for Whelehans which is always reliable but it was shut. Ditto the Gables and Kerb. I ate 2 starters: mushroom risotto (average with broth still liquid as opppsed to creamy texture I like) and a crab on toast (a poor version of the classic). Dessert was pavlova with blood orange (not bad). 2 glasses of albarino. 63 Euro including tip. The room is not at all nice/ well designed.

Three generations enjoyed Saturday lunch at this excellent bistro. My octogenarian coeliac mum can create a challenge to less sensitive establishments. From the freshly baked bread roll to the clearly labeled dietary menu, her needs were comfortably met. The three starters were really good on flavour and perfect lunch size. The mains, a beautiful, generous piece of slow cooked venison; a lightly curried pheasant pie and a slow cooked brisket based lasagne were all cooked with love and investment in time to extract the most out of quality ingredients. It’s been a great restaurant for decades but has evolved with the owners commitment to delivering generous food and hospitality.

I have eaten here numerous times with my wife and family.
The food options and quality are always excellent.
Wine range is superb.
Atmosphere is perfect and staff are so welcoming.
I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more.
Excellent
We needed a quality restaurant near our hotel as my husband couldn’t walk far. We certainly found what we wanted. The prawns starter was amazing and the hake brilliant- I have eaten in many fine restaurants but this was up there with the best. If you are in Dublin you must come.
Be the first to ReplyFor me, a must place to visit in Dublin
I went there on last friday and it was a surprise for me, one of the beat restaurants in Dublin for sure and I've been in a lot of them. It's not a big restaurant, but when you get in you feel like at home, with a very nice vibe. I order a steak, my daughter a corn soup and a fresh pasta with pumpkin, my wife fish and chips.
I tried the soup and it was very nice and good for this cold weather, very different from others that I tried before. I couldn't try the pasta because it have cheese and I don't eat cheese, but she told me it was excellent. I tried the fish and chips and it was really very good, I usually don't like fish and chips because in mostly all the places they use really bad oils, but this one was awesome. The meat was wonderful, very very good meat and it was very well cooked, and I tried meat in some of the best places in Dublin.
I will be back for sure, I really enjoyed this place.
Please, continue like this.
insulting
My husband and I had recently celebrated our joint birthday in Bistro One. My calamari starter was underwhelming but the big disappointment was the main course. Being a celebration we went all out with Himalayan Salted 45 day dried rib-eye for 2 for the handsome price of 64 euro. We got a shock when it arrived as it was wrong on so many levels: firstly it wasn't a full steak as expected, it was a small piece of meat sliced and butterflied in a pathetic attempt to cover a bit more of the plate. It was accompanied by about five slices of sautéed potato and a small bowl of green beans. No effort has been made on the presentation of this dish and it felt like an insult to us. The owner came and inquired about our meal and when we said it's rather small he replied "you haven't finished it yet" which sounded extremely rude and condescending. The waitress kept coming back to offer more green beans, further insult to injury. The steak itself tasted good but it didn't seem important anymore, we felt ripped off. Needless to say it dampened some of the sense of celebration that couldn't be rescued by a plate with a scoop of ice cream and a candle. We didn't openly complain as we were there for a special occasion but it didn't feel right that in this fiercely competitive culinary day-and-age Bistro One, comfortably taking advantage of their usual clientele, can defy the good common sense of good common customers.
