Benoit New York Reviews from The Last Year
Another spectacular and pretty reasonably priced lunch at Benoit
My wife and I had lunch at Benoit New York last Thursday. It is a favorite. I or we visit once every month or two. The person at the host station said “welcome back. Let me show you to your regular table.” We have a regular table now! That is a thrill! My wife opted for the Benoit Burger, which runs in the low $20’s. She likes it a little and feels it is superior to our upscale burgers she has tried. I went for the set menu, opting for the two course version at $37. My furs5 course was swordfish cerviche, which was good. This was followed by the Beef Bordelaise. This was a sliced beef dish was an excellent sauce. It had a green salad on the side. The beef was probably a hanger steak or skirt steak. It was excellent! I ate it slowly and enjoyed every bite. We had a bottle of their Côtes du Rhône red, which is an excellent wine. It is $60 a bottle and a good value on the wine list. We shared a soufflé for dessert. It was excellent. Actually, I think I ate all of it. The bill was about $160 before tip. It was a spectacular meal. We intend to return.
Sixth day of French week
I dined in the wine bar section which was very quiet and relaxing. Excellent customer service from the staff extremely attentive.
French refinement in the heart of New York
Excellent discovery I invited 4 customers to this restaurant that I didn't know. What a great discovery. First of all a warm and careful welcome, our server was Vincent, a Parisian exiled in NYC but in impeccable English. The room manager (I didn't ask for her name) drives her team excellently but with great discretion. Let's talk about the meal for the starters, Burgundy Escargots, Onion Soup, the flavors of France in the heart of NYC. In terms of dishes, we are spoiled for choice, for me it was the roast chicken, what can I say, the best chicken I have eaten in my life, so light how such a simple dish can still surprise us and well in this restaurant is possible. As for dessert, we decided to share the crème caramel, and the famous profiteroles, what can we say other than finish your dinner on a sweet and pleasant note. I recommend this table with fervor
Excellent Brunch
Four of us had brunch at Benoit. What a delightful experience! The wait staff are very professional, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was quite good. It's a charming place.
What happened?
We were so looking forward to revisiting Benoit after a 5* experience a few years ago, but we were really disappointed this time. The restaurant seemed very understaffed, as our server tried to take care of every table in sight, and several items we ordered didn't arrive. Meanwhile two other tables (of favored customers?) were doted upon by senior restaurant staff. The duck breast was fine although tiny and all alone on a big plate except for one little carrot (the menu says it's served with carrots plural). The truffle risotto was mispriced (more of course), and the house pate was dry and with little flavor. At these prices we expected so much better. It just seems as though Benoit has given up.
One of the very best in the city
Just had one of my most memorable dinners ever. Chef Alberto Marcolongo is a genius who masters the challenge of serving impeccable classic cuisine while also innovating in presentation and taste. The head sommelier is a consummate professional with incredible knowledge and panache. Wow, and thank you all for an unforgettable evening
A great restaurant, but the price fixed lunch was disappointing
On Wednesday I had lunch in New York at Benoit. This is a favorite restaurant when we are in New York. It is very elegant, in the French bistro style. The service is great. The atmosphere is great. The food is generally great. They have brought back their two or three course set lunch menu. This runs about $39 and $45. I mentioned “generally great” But this time the set lunch menu was disappointing. The appetizer was grilled shrimp over taboulli. The two shrimp were small, probably the 21-25 per pound size. The entree was spaghetti carbonara. The pasta was homemade, but not spectacular. However, the bread they serve is great. The goureres they serve upon arrival were wonderful and the Madelines they offer at the end of the meal were great. All these extras are included. Wines are fairly priced, even reasonable for New York. They have a nice cores du Rhone red at $60/bottle. If I had the meal to do over again, I would have ordered the cassoulet. This is one of their signature dishes. It is enormous and runs $45. Maybe next time! I plan on returning, sooner rather than later.

We love fine dining in the city but this experience did not measure up. We expected so much more. Decor and ambiance were lovely but honestly the food was very mediocre and we were so disappointed. Service was good but when the food is underwhelming it's a one and done for us. There are so many great French restaurants in nyc this just isn't it. I was so hoping for a new go to in midtown too.

Okay so I was super full from NYC eats we had a late lunch filling lunch a few hours before our dinner reservation here on the same day. I had multiple glasses of champagne and the escargot appetizer it was tasty but I was so full I only ate 3 out 6 of those little snails and a few bites of my hubby's foie gras appetizer which was amazing. I would definitely revisit if NYC again with a bigger appetite. Our French Chef friend recommended this restaurant to us. The service was excellent and ambience was nice as well.
What a disappointment.
The Tarte flambée was anything but Alsatian, (was told by our waiter that it was "modify" to please the American consumers). So don't call it Alsatian or Flambée!). The traditional cassoulet was not better. Dry and rancid, the meat cooked separately from the beans and assembled at time of service. There are more but I'll stop there. Not in a habit of complaining but didn't like my stomach wakeup call at 2am. So sad! PS: Super nice and welcoming staff. 5 stars

While in NY we went to this restaurant on the recommendation of my sister who has been there before. The atmosphere was great and the service was wonderful. Also of course the food was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant

The service was impeccable! It's easy to pick a wine since they have a sommelier on deck to help you through the process, based on your selections and your budget. Stayed away from the finger foods and shared the apps (soup and flarbread) and dessert (soufflé). The entrees were delicious (we got the pumpkin risotto and the duck). All the portions were very generous and we left stuffed. Staying until closing (oops) we got Madeline's on the house freshly baked which were delicious!!!!
We stopped here unplanned--and were so happy that we did!
We stopped here unplanned--and were so happy that we did! They don't have a kids menu posted but they do have kids cheeseburgers and fries or pasta, which was perfect for them! The drinks were delicious and the skirt steak was perfect! We sat outside and had a nice heater on us, so we were comfortable. The service was exceptional! Would definitely come back!!
Bland
We chose this restaurant for Christmas day. Cold welcome, the second floor where we were seated seems like a different restaurant: dark, empty, it looks like a mountain hut. Excessive staff, rude maitre when we said we didn't need his help. Absurd markup on wines. Flavors of the dishes are flat, the final millefeuille with a truly annoying burnt aftertaste. I wouldn't recommend it considering the excessive cost and the quality found. Like many restaurants in New York, it feels like we're stuck in the 80s.
Classic French.
Delicious. Really enjoyed the skirt steak with bordelais sauce, dover sole, escargot, onion soup, etc. Nice interior as well.
Great bistro - recommend
Very good service, food good, the escargot great. They were quite attentive and though the place was crowded is was not very noise - recommend
Don't let the association with a multi-Michelin starred chef fool you.
Alain Ducasse has probably never actually been here. What a disappointing experience! The dining room was as loud as an Irish pub during the World Cup. The tables were crammed together so tightly, the lighting didn't provide anywhere near an "intimate" or relaxing feel, and generic club music played in the background. We sat for 20 minutes before an order was taken and anything but water was brought to the table. When we did order, I was told we couldn't order the starters and then put our food order in afterward. I guess because the food was so overpriced and mediocre that if we'd just ordered starters we might have stopped there. So how was the food- nothing was terrible but nothing was really unique or memorable either. Diner/chain restaraunt quality food with fine dining prices. The pomme frites were just sad, they could've been purchased at the McDonalds down the block and reheated. The baguette was stale and chewy. My husband liked his smoky Negroni but the Meet me in Pear-is cocktail was basically lemonade and vodka masquerading as a craft coctail. Skipped out on the dessert- the tarte tatin looked delicious- because we couldn't handle the rowdy atmosphere anymore and didn't want to be let down by another sub-par course. I would not go back and definitely would not recommend this place. Ducasse may have more Michelin stars than any other chef in the world, but this place will never have one.

The positives are undoubtedly the service and the decor, both of which were impressive and worthy of praise. The food, however, was extremely disappointing, bland, and unnecessarily overpriced. It was a very lackluster Thanksgiving meal. I never want to come to a French restaurant and have to add heaps of salt and pepper just to get an ounce of flavor -- French food isn't known for it's blandness. My husband didn't even finish his main course. I will give them credit for their desserts, as well as their espresso martinis; however the latter of which is getting a positive review more so for the strength of the drink rather than the taste.

I was so excited to experience Alain DuCasse and was a guest of an out of town friend. What a disappointment! I ordered the (tiny serving of, as it turned) out halibut. It arrived like warm. The waiter was very apologetic and 10 mins later brought me another piece. It was hot, but not good. The consistency was very watery and a good 1/8 of it was the grey part that was unpleasantly fishy. I didn't want to make a big deal of it, since I was a guest. First of all, when you bring out a luke warm dish that is supposed to be hot and then have to take it back, the least you could do is offer a complimentary glass of wine. Or something! To sit there waiting while your dinner companion is eating is not acceptable at a restaurant of this alleged caliber. The waiter was very friendly and the fries were good. But the fries are good at McDonald's, for a 1/4 the price. I wonder what's happening in that kitchen. I wasn't impressed, especially at that price point. Monsieur DuCasse would not have been happy.

Despite initial hesitation due to some mixed reviews, my partner made a reservation, and I'm delighted we decided to give this restaurant a chance. We started with the delicious vichyssoise as an appetizer, followed by perfectly cooked filet mignon and skirt steak--both delightful. The service was impressively fast, efficient, and pleasant. We wrapped up the meal with the indulgent crème caramel and apple pie, both generously portioned, necessitating a to-go bag. At $237, it was a fantastic dinner, and I look forward to returning on my next visit to NYC.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
