Food was amazing, great crust and seasoning on steak.
Mashed potatoes were great. Really nice service and vibes of the restaurant as well!

The food and service were absolutely amazing! The chocolate pie for desert was not too heavy but just right. This is worth the hype. I was a little upset to learn about the corkage fee changing to a normal price instead of sharing a glass with someone. Either way It was divine and I'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a good steakhouse but not mind blowing.
The only fault in the night was that they cooked the New York Strip wagyu to rare when it should have better medium rare. It's hard to tell with the dark lighting, so you need to use your phone to check when your food comes out. Also, you have to salt your own steak. This is a place where you have seasoning salt at your table, and you have to salt each piece after you cut it. I personally used a lot of salt, so you may need to ask for more. Sizzling Shrimp Scampi - $25.99 - You get 6 maybe U-10 size shrimp with 4 giant pieces of garlic bread. Is this worth $25.99? Probably not. The shrimp is good, the sauce is good, and the bread is just okay. The bread needs to be dipped into the sauce to make it tasty, don't try to eat it plain. It's good, but you may want to try another dish. 4/5 stars. Classic Ribeye Chicago Cut 16oz - $74.99 - My steak was cooked perfectly with a good crust. I just didn't realize that there are steakhouses that make you salt your own steak. You need a lot of the salt to make it tasty. The bearnaise was kinda plain. 4.5/5 stars. Bone In New York Strip - $109.99 - This one was not cooked to medium rare. When I tried it, I noticed something was wrong, and that's when I used my phone to check the cook. Flavor wise, I thought my ribeye was better. 4/5 stars. Creamed Spinach - $15.99 - I didn't really notice the blue cheese, so if that makes you hesitant, don't worry about it. It's good but very cheesy. 5/5 stars. Elote Style Corn - $14.99 - This is not made with tajin, so there's no chemical taste. Real chili and lime flavor. This was my favorite side dish. 5/5 stars. Truffle Mac & Cheese - $15.99 - Good flavor and okay portion. The waitress said it was the most popular side dish. It's decent, but it still wasn't anything special. It's a fine choice if you want pasta. 5/5 stars. We thought the sides were better than the steak. The steaks are fine, but you really need a lot of salt to get good flavor out of it. For the price, you could definitely go elsewhere and get the same flavor. Service is good. Atmosphere was romantic.
Be the first to ReplyBavette's Bar & Boeuf in Chicago is a culinary masterpiece
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf in Chicago is a culinary masterpiece that left me speechless. From the moment you walk in, you're transported to a bygone era of glamour and sophistication. The menu is a celebration of classic steakhouse fare, with a modern twist. I started with the shrimp cocktail, which was perfectly cooked and served with a tangy cocktail sauce. For my main course, I indulged in the dry-aged ribeye, and it was a revelation. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, the steak was tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The ambiance at Bavette's is unparalleled. The dim lighting, plush leather booths, and vintage decor create an atmosphere that is both elegant and inviting. The service was also exceptional, with attentive staff who anticipated my every need. While Bavette's is on the pricier side, the experience is well worth it. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable night out.

I'm not sure how anyone could not give Bavette's a 5-star rating. Between the food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the service, there's not much they can improve on. It's only my 2nd time here and I have no idea why I don't come here more often. Probably the difficulty in getting a table during normal dinner hrs. Our reservation was for 3:45pm and I'm actually glad it was so early. I was still full at 1am. I can't imagine eating that any later. So worth it though

Would rate 10 stars if I could from the service to the food. Obed was great and even made some great recommendations.

Went for my birthday dinner and everything was top notch, from the food to the service and everything in between. The seafood was amazing paired with their steaks. I got the punch and really liked that drink! Will be a long time customer.

Bavette's was such a vibe! We came for our birthday and the entire restaurant made us feel so special. I wish I could remember the name of our waitress because she was such a ray of light. I would want to come back and request her all the time if I lived in Chicago. The restaurant was stunning inside, giving you a taste of what Chicago looked like in the past. The restaurant was perfect for an intimate dinner with you and a few friends, and the food was *chef's kiss*! Everything came out piping hot, flavorful, and in decent portions --by the time we left I was thankful that I had a long coat to cover my belly I ordered the Petite Duchess Cut Filet Mignon, which was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. I love that it came with béarnaise sauce bc that's my jam! I knew what I wanted and it satisfied my red meat craving. We also ordered the truffle Mac and cheese which was the perfect mix of creamy, savory, and filling. The elote was good too but next time we'll def try the buttery mashed potatoes. My friend ordered the spiced fried chicken and it was so good but at that point, I was already so full. Great place to celebrate something special or gather with friends. Will def be stopping by again our next time in Chicago or Vegas.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here was delicious.
Sad I hadn't made it here sooner. Had a ribeye steak shared sides fries, whipped mash, and their Mac n cheese. I must say the fries were so good with the steak. Also had well made margaritas. Ambiance is dark romantic, loud, and elegant all at once. I sat downstairs which was a little more calm than upstairs on a Friday night. Recommendation for reservations is 21 days before you need to go. This will guarantee you a spot almost always.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was fantastic and the service was excellent.
The only complaint I had was that it was noisy. It was very busy and the tables are close together. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal as well as the hostess and the server. I will go back.

Before this last dinner, I've given Bavette's 5 stars for all former visits. Maybe it's a new chef, maybe it's that Bavette's is still coming out of a pandemic slump, but having been here umpteen times in the past, and only having one "miss", our last dinner experience doesn't bode well for future visits. Shrimp cocktail? Why have you changed purveyors of those amazing huge and delectable shrimp? Instead of those, we were served a larger serving of a passable small shrimp, that looked rather ridiculous on the huge ice-mounded bowl. Shame. Steak tartare is still amazing. As well as the Lyonaise salad and chocolate creme pie. Bone-in strip steaks first arrived medium to medium-well, despite having been ordered medium-rare. I only needed to use my (clean) knife to test the doneness. The steak was so firm I knew it wasn't cooked correctly. We sent them back, and they returned better, but still slightly over-cooked. Maybe medium-rare to medium? Admittedly, I'm a steak snob, having worked at one of Chicago's famous steak houses in the 90's. Yep, I'm (that) old. Still. The bone-in strip did not seem to quite reach the 14oz threshold, and it was so full of sinew it was difficult to chew/eat. Having already returned the first set of steaks for being very overcooked, we didn't want to return the replacements as well. But for $80 apiece, we expect better. Eric is still, in my opinion, the best server around -- knowledgeable, personable, has timing nailed down, intelligent, dry sense of humor, and we request one of his tables every time. We'll try again, but maybe pass on the steaks -- a sad statement for what is or was one of the best steakhouses in the City.

Great food. Amazing staff. Perfect atmosphere. I could eat that wedge salad every day!
Be the first to ReplyProbably the best steakhouse I've ever been to.
The atmosphere is second to none and the food lives up to the environment provided. When I'm back in Chicago, this is the place I will go for a steak dinner.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is better than any restaurant in Chicago.
Get the bone marrow/ crab cake/ wedge salad/ steak and some sides. Ball out and get it all. Service is amazing. Go to the basement and see Chris the bartender. Makes exquisite drinks and keeps them coming. Ambiance is wonderful too. Feels very prohibition era but it's really not that old. Can't ask for more.

Fabulous! Well-deserving of the praise it gets, re: FOOD, ambiance & service. Make it a date night or chance it as a food exploration expedition at the bar. Every bite was delicious. I wish I lived closer and not 2500 miles away...
Be the first to ReplyWow! A little pricey but worth every penny.
If you are second guessing the choice, don't. So delicious. And the ambiance puts it over the top. Dark and cozy, relaxed atmosphere.

Perfect speak easy for a nice dinner date. If you're here for pics, it could be a bit incisive bc it's a bit dark inside. However go! Reserve ahead and you won't be dissatisfied. We've been here once and they never brought my husband's steak (they forgot), but quickly fixed the issue and didn't charge us for the meal. I will say it was a busy night but the fact they did so much to make it right was very much appreciated and worth the return! We planned for our staycation but our reservations got canceled due to a family ERFollow me in real-time on IG: @damnthosesteaktacos to see all my adventures!

I highly recommend this restaurant especially for a special occasion.
Be the first to ReplyFinally scored a decent reservation at this steak house
Finally scored a decent reservation at this steak house staple. I waited longer than my dry aged New York strip, which was cooked to perfection. Usually, I do not give off five stars without a handful of visits to ensure consistency but this establishment met all those and some by a long shot. Service was stellar from the start. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation, no problem grabbed a drink by the bar. Although it was hard to get a bartenders attention standing behind bar patrons whom were already sitting at the bar.. no problem we managed. We were seated a little after our reservation and greeted again immediately by our server. Drink order taken. We eventually ordered oysters(east coast only available) which were tasty, fresh and garnished with the freshest sides. My girlfriend ordered the 10oz traditional filet mignon medium/rare topped with roasted garlic(so tender was like slicing butter), I ordered the 14oz 42dry-aged bone in New York strip medium/rare, which left my mouth watering for more. So tender I thought I was cutting butter as well. They give you a side of seasoning salt to add to ur steak as preferred. Which we loved. Also a side of garlic/parsley butter i believe(might be wrong but was still mouth watering). And of course we ordered the roasted bone marrow w/side of caramelized onions...and omg., for 25.95 you get 5 huge bones w/ a hefty half loaf of fresh baked sour dough bread(full on drool mode).. ok ok... now off to the sides we ordered the button mushrooms which had too be the best I've ever had... and I've had some mushrooms from all over. The Mac and cheese was just as great, definitely in my top 10 Mac and cheese categories.. from a steak house stance in my top five. Unfortunately, my girlfriend and I did not have room for dessert in which we both regret as the whole dessert menu seemed unremarkable.. not too mention the dessert espresso martini sounded just as good with a slice of cake. Overall counting the days before I return.. classic setting, I hear the basement is more intimate and shaped like a cellar, upstairs is little more loud, you see the open bar and beautiful chandeliers. Drinks tried, mezcal corpse reviver(tasted like a classic "last word").This most enjoyed drink order was the Bavette's punch with mezcal instead of rum. If I'm not mistaken..(thank me later)

Food: We came for the steaks and stayed for the sides and dessert. Everything was outstanding! As a personal preference, I believe the "normal" ribeye was better than the dry-aged, especially for the price. The truffle mac was a big hit, along with the mashed potatoes and broccoli. If you are a fan of bone marrow, don't skip it here - it was absolutely stellar. The drinks were done well, I got the old fashioned and it was pretty standard. Service: The service was fantastic. Great recommendations on food, portion size. Attentive. Ambiance: The ambiance here is the best. Dark, old-timey, cozy. The place you find yourself wanting to go to for a good cocktail. Overall: Is it expensive? Oh yeah. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

We had family visiting and on a whim was able to snag a table at Bavette's for dinner. After hearing everyone rave about this place, I couldn't wait to try it for myself! We were seated downstairs, and after seeing how the restaurant filled in when we left, I am glad we were down there. It was much more intimate than the upstairs and gave the meal a completely different feel. The service was top-notch. From start to finish our server and the support staff were attentive in bringing food, refilling drinks, and checking in on us. I could not have asked for anything more. Our server walked us through the menu and explained each of the cuts of meat in great detail. They also made recommendations for popular side dishes and drinks. We started with the Steak Tartare and it was one of the best I've had. The flavors from the meat came through so well and the texture of the dish was perfect. We ordered the bone-in filets along with the truffle mac & cheese and thick-cut bacon. The only regret I had from the meal was ordering the bacon. While it was good, it didn't blow me away and I would have rather ordered a different dish instead. But everyone has different tastes. We finished the meal with two desserts, because why not! I went into dessert looking forward to the Carrot Cake and it turns out that the Strawberries & Cream won my heart. It was exceptional and I absolutely will be ordering it again next time. Bavette's lived up to the hype and I am so glad I was able to get in for a visit, especially while having family in town to enjoy a quintessential Chicago restaurant. If you're able to get a reservation, be ready for one heck of a meal!

Lauren our server was great! Very energetic, quick , and knew it was my birthday! Obsessed with Bavettes and cannot wait to return! Not only were the drinks outstanding but the food omg love the experience and the feeling of not being rushed out was great. Its very dark downstairs where we were seated but loved the entire vibe of the restaurant. Mini flashlights needed to read the menu , other then that top notch.
Be the first to ReplyOur first night here was magical.
We did not have a reservation on New Years Eve but the hostess informed us to come in as early as possible to get a seat at bar and SURPRISE!! We walked into two seats at the bar. The bartender was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect for conversation and laughter. The food melted in my mouth as I swung my feet back and fourth like a 12 year old eating a sundae.
Be the first to ReplyMy family took me here for the first time for my Birthday.
Excellent choice. We had make reservations weeks in advance. We were greeted by excellent staff and the ambiance was nice. I ordered the half chicken with mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I will most definitely recommend and return to Bavette's.
