Loved this meal
The food was so good I'm giving Bar La Grassa a 5 even though it was terribly noisy, but also busy so understandable. I liked the different kinds of china used for the servings. We started with the soft egg and lobster bruschetta, which would prove to be a favorite followed closely by the red wine spaghetti and the roasted squash. We also had the Calamarata with raw tuna and the crab ravioli, which the last was a bit of a disappointment compared to the rest. But sated and happy.

Went for a business dinner and was pleasantly surprised with the delicious food. From the arancini, to the pasta with tuna I had, everything was delicious. Even that piece of "Italian crepe" I stole from a colleague's plate while he was not looking. Wines were so so and service was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the place is extremely loud so not good for a business meeting, or any conversation, to be honest. Thus knocking down one point. If I am back in Minneapolis I will definitely come back.

Was in Minneapolis for Stevie Nicks-Billy Joel concert. We sat at the bar because the place was packed. You can order food at the bar. It was much more fun at the bar either ways. We had red wine, espresso martini and after dinner drink Sambuca 😁 Great food! I’ve never seen the variety of offerings of bruschettas (Wow) We had the braised octopus one. Yummy!!! Pictures do not make it justice We shared the pasta ( cavallini with rabbit) and fish dish (Branzino). Whole Branzino was brought out as presentation and then they cleaned it (removed bone) in front of us. 👏👏 Both dishes were delicious!!
Be the first to ReplyA predictably wonderful dinner--to celebrate our 40th anniversary!
OUTSTANDING in every way! The Boulevardier is one of the best versions of that cocktail I've had (and I've had many). the "soft eggs and Lobster" appetizer is a 5-star dish--and large enough to share between two. The white anchovy & avocado toast appetizer is, likewise, wonderful and enough for two. Service by Michelle was excellent, and the assistance given by Gab e was also marvelous. A wonderful dinner!

Absolutely amazing. We were in town for the football game and went for a nice dinner with some friends. Had some appetizers, all excellent. I had the gnocchi dish which was hands down the best pasta dish I’ve ever had. Wonderful atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend.

Food is terrific and service is very attentive and polite. However, the atmosphere is dark and not well lit for evening dinner. The noise is over the top which makes it hard to hear the person sitting across from you. So, if your willing to read lips and just eat then this is the place for you.

Fun and vibrant atmosphere! Strong drinks and pretty decent culinary experience. It’s always busy here and reservations are still booked at least a week or two in advance. Also, parking is inherently challenging in the North Loop, so plan ahead or use valet. Service is great. Food is decent, probably wonderful for those with a refined palate. Most of menu is filled with cheese, butter and cream, so tread carefully and engage your server for your sensitive stomach. My most recent visit, we ordered the BLG Caesar salad, focaccia and fettuccine Alfredo- all delightful paired with wine and cocktails recommended by our server. We ended with the Gjetost cheesecake, which was a welcomed unique dessert. The atmosphere is romantic, dark, and filled with energy. A Minneapolis must!
Be the first to ReplyA REliable, really good dining experience
Another very good meal at "ABLG." The negroni cocktail was well made, the white anchovy/avocado appetizer was excellent, and the mushroom and taleggio agnolotti was very tasty. The mussels pasta nera was a bit disappointing. Great servie from Eleza.

Pretty good food, so so for price point. Took packed in with tables side by side, barely any room for waiters. Too much ambience to conversation.
Be the first to ReplyBLG is still the BOMB !
We booked ahead and glad we did. The place was slammed and rockin! I love going to a restaurant that is full with a line at the door. You know before you sit down everyone is here for a great experience. I’d read reviews for an hour in the afternoon sipping Prosecco before we arrived so I had a general ideas of what I wanted to experience. Drinks were a smoky bourbon Manhattan and a spicy margarita. Too spicy so we opted for an espresso martini. And slowly finished the Margarita There were only two of us so we couldn’t share and eat everything we wanted! We had to settle. Something familiar from past trips( we drive 7 hours from Canada to eat here, and not since before COVID) and something new. Our three openers were the roasted beet salad ( amazing ) the soft egg and lobster Bruschetta with ricotta and the ravioli with the creamy egg yolk , one of our faves and one that we’ve done at home since trying it here. Pasta dishes were the rabbit pasta and the gnocchi with orange and cauliflower. Both great, full of their individual flavours and leaving just enough room for desert. Pause here. Joshua our server was awesome! Attentive. There when he was needed, anticipating what we needed and wanted and made a great suggestion for wine. I second guessed him so he brought two samples (his and my suggestion) and he was right! Happily right The bottle paired well with everything and carried into desert time. I had the chocolate Budino with decaf espresso and the other was the affogato. I shared all the dishes with my partner. Happy memories and a great meal again. Thank you Josh and BLG!
Be the first to ReplyHeavy on EVO!
Seems BLG has slipped recently. I loved it when it opened, but my recent trip with my wife was disappointing. The cooks seemed to be heavy handed with the olive oil. My beet salad with goat cheese had nice beets, nice greens, but they were overwhelmed with EVO. Same with the avocado and anchovy bruschetta--soggy, oil laden grilled bread, drizzled again with too much EVO. The freshness and minimalism I knew from before appears to have taken a night off. I am huge EVO fan, but less is more!
