Number 8 on the world's best restaurants!! You (and I) might ask...who am I to give 4 stars instead of 5? This is where the power of a lot of reviews and perspectives makes a lot of sense. There are different tastes and likes and that gets factored in and normalized over a large number of reviews. This is written from the perspective of someone who generally is not a big fan of seafood. I could still appreciate the food and thought it was incredible. Everything from the presentation to the flavors was amazing. There were a couple of dishes that were too "fishy" for my liking, hence the 4-star review. Please forgive me! The service was spectacular. Super friendly and attentive. My favorite dishes were the wagyu (of course) and the sweet potato ice cream.

That's not just because of the food, although the food was a major reason for it the service was top notch as well! The attention to detail from the dining room staff was incredible. This is was a 2 star Michelin restaurant should be. The food is super innovative using a lot of ingredients you don't find anywhere else in America. Learned a lot about the Korean culture at the same time of exploring the amazing tasting menu. The cocktails were also very very good which you don't always find in a restaurant like this. Not a cheap meal but worth every penny!!

A spectacular Korean tasting menu that rivals some of the best restaurants in the world. Every dish is a masterpiece, and the "storybook menu," in which staff hands you a postcard with details about each dish, adds to the novelty of the meal. But while every dish was flawless, nothing was spectacular. The skill involved shines through complex dishes, and it probably deserves that long-elusive third Michelin star (I'd compare it to Benu in San Francisco, with a bit of Atelier Crenn).

So delicious for a special occasion! The best fine dining restaurant in NYC. Worth the visit and repeat dining for any special occasion.

5: We were interested in checking out Atomix, as the chef came from Jungsik, one of our favorites. We made sure to reserve the first chef's counter seating - note that there are only two seatings (5:30 and at 8:45 PM). The menu included: +Sardine - marigold rice and gim bugak +Sea Urchin - steamed sweet corn cake +Bluefin Tuna - pineapple weed and Kristal caviar +Scallop - maple flower and pyogo mushrooms +Langoustine - with kimchi and fermented rice +Silkie Chicken - abalone, octopus, and tendon +Channel Rockfish - chunri-jang and corn husk tea +Tilefish - smoked eel, aji dulce, honeynut squash +Conger Eel - eggplant and ganjang dashi +Jukyeon Galbi - with pine cone ssamjang and cabbage +Gosari Rice - with ganjang yangnyeom +Korean Pear - Korean hyssop and acacia honey +and, Goguma Ice Cream - with sujeonggwa and walnuts Unfortunately, we weren't fans of the courses and its progression - the flavors didn't complement each other well, and while they were beautifully presented, the taste was just not there. Service was fine, but the staff seemed to not be well-versed in explaining the components for each course. +underwhelming tasting menu

Atomix blew me away and I decided before my meal even ended that I will be coming back every year. I might even go as far as saying this is my favorite Michelin rated restaurant thus far. I don't want to say too much as I normally do with my Yelp reviews. You really should experience what the hype is all about :)

The pinnacle of creativity, combining flavours that work harmoniously and creating tastes unlike anything before. Such subtle flavours and textures, absolutely divine. Langoustine with a fermented rice broth. Tilefish with a honeynut squash broth. Korean pear, olive oil powder, Acacia honey palette cleanser. Each dish meticulously thought out and executed. As for why the dishes were perfect in conception and execution, take the Tilefish as an example. The broth is divinely rich. To offset the creaminess, the chef adds bits of salmon roe and fermented vegetables for blasts of salty, briny, and sour that elevate the dish and create a perfect balance. The chef has also prepared a light eggplant banchan to be eaten in the middle, as a small palette refresh from the richness. The chef has thought of all these intricate details and nuances, it is truly meticulous! The broths were so mouthwateringly delicious. The langoustine fermented rice, tilefish honeynut squash, wagyu ssamjang - stimulating every part of my body with pleasure, I could not get enough of it. All of the flavours were elevated and innovative, but balanced. Not a single dish felt it had an overwhelming flavour. Especially the pear palette cleanser, it was so refreshing and offered an imaginative and harmonious combination of pear, Acacia honey, and olive oil powder... a perfect palette cleanser. Best meal I have ever had in my life.

We had the December 2023 chefs counter menu, and unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. Some of the dishes were well executed, but some, if not most, were a miss. For example, the steamed corn cake was too dense and overpowered the uni and cream on top. The langoustine was delicious on its own but the fermented rice sauce was too sour to pair with it. We actually had a very similar dish at Jungsik recently, who's menu we enjoyed much more in terms of presentation, texture, and flavors. Ultimately, everyone's taste is different, but we would go elsewhere for a Korean fusion tasting menu.

Personal Rating: [5/5], Yelp Rating: [5/5] Amazing, best dining experience I've ever had. I won't bore you with the details on each dish. In general every dish was great, with a few that were next level. Service was next level and it felt like watching a choreographed performance. Ambiance was intimate and overall a great experience. Some things to highlight: Non-alcoholic pairing - extremely fun to try. I hate getting wine pairings because I have to pretend I can taste what a tannin is when I can't really tell how they're meant to complement a dish. The non-alcoholic pairing on the other hand had extremely interesting drinks (parmesan water and red pepper juice to name two) where you can actually taste different flavors and how its meant to pair with the accompanying dish. For roughly half the price of the wine pairing and for something more unique, imo it's a much better value. This pairing started in October 2023. White truffle add-on - Be prepared for whether you want to add white truffle to two of your dishes. I opted out and don't think it would've personally made much of a difference. Cards/stories for each dish was cute and fun. The AR experience is gimmicky. There's also a chance to buy a signed copy of The Korean Cookbook at the end of the meal.

Food was delicious but some dishes were ok. Just wasn't a fan of the dessert
Be the first to ReplyWe had a wonderful evening at Atomix.
The food, service and decor are all 10/10. The chefs serve you each course. We were welcomed warmly and the hard work of the entire team did not go unnoticed. The food was fantastic. The note card that came with each course was appreciated. Atomix is a hard ticket to get and we feel lucky to have had the chance to experience such a memorable experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed.
Still hungry after the dinner meal. Too salty for the soup source nearly in every dish. I still don't know why it is famous and popular. I had much better experience in many other Korean, Omakase or Asian restaurants.

It's so rare to go to a Michelin star tasting menu and actually have spicy dishes. I appreciated that so much! The aesthetic is immaculate here and the service is top notch without making you feel watched. As far as Michelin starred meals go in NYC this is one of the most innovative and exciting. Highly recommend it for special occasions or if you feel like splurging. I love the touch of providing a story with each plate. It was beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

The experience somehow justified the cost but some hit or miss.PROs:*Service: no question on the service, everyone was very friendly and chatty.*Flavor: fun Korean inspired flavor.*Ambiance/Hospitality/story-telling experience.CONs:*Cutlery: the wooden cutlery was so worn out that was kinda unappetizing.*Quality of the protein: as a 2-star restaurant, we expected it to be top quality of food sourcing. Some parts of tuna was stringy; the uni was from Maine; the scallop wasn't sweet; the eel was kinda chewy. *Wine Pairing: the pour is on the stingy side.

A unique culinary journey with beautiful sights and an intimate setting -- so intimate that you don't even feel like you're at a restaurant, and instead as a guest at Chef JP's basement. At each stop along the journey, you're given in-house designed postcards with an intro and description about the food you're about to have. As the ingredients are mostly sourced from Korea and Japan, the culinary experience is seafood-heavy, where I enjoyed scallop, tuna, salmon roe, tilefish and mackerel. Flavors are good, but not risky, and there were no "wow!" or entirely new tongue-sations throughout the night. Everything is good -- prepared and cooked at a high quality. You could even argue that maybe Atomix is too conservative on the flavors they choose? Besides the salmon roe and bluefin tuna with a touch of rice vinegar and sesame oil, I felt like other dishes were too salty and lacked acidity balance. Some dishes seemed to be rather shy -- the scallop dish, despite mushroom and black truffle, still felt quite muted in flavor, and the oily sauce tasted quite neutral. Despite some forgettable dishes, the ones I will remember are Miyeok (seaweed) sauce under the seared tilefish, the turnip soup that was part of the Guk soup, and the freshwater eel in the side dish was great as well, the hint of sweetness on a thin crispy skin and tender fish meat was a joy. The 2 desserts were great, with the citrus sauce really standing out to me.I'm glad I did the wine pairing. Not all the wines are great, but the Sommelier did his best to find some non-cliche wines that surprised me. The Luis Seabra, Xisto Cru from Portugal was a very nice white wine that is seldom seen from the Douro, and the IWA 5 Sake, which is a blend of sake brewed from different yeasts in the kimoto method, was quite well-balanced yet assertive in some citrus notes that you don't normally expect from sake. "Modest, but not trivial. Splendid, but not extravagant" is a quote from Three Kingdoms that Chef JP uses to describe Atomix. I felt satisfied after the restaurant, but not indulged, and there was a certain austerity at the restaurant that didn't let me totally loosen up.

Yes, the food is incredible, but I'd like to make a special note of the service and hospitality here, which is the best that I've experienced at any restaurants by several orders of magnitude. The staff were all incredibly warm, friendly, and unpretentious, and were eager, but never pushy, to converse about anything and everything. Early on, I mentioned to one of the staff that I was there to celebrate passing my qualifying exam for my PhD program, and over the course of the entire meal, it seemed like the entire service team came over to my seat to give their congratulations. Definitely look forward to returning when I get the chance.

The dinner was absolutely amazing! We've been to Michelin star restaurants that weren't very creative and over-salted their food but each dish here were super creative, flavorful and delicious overall. The staff was amazing too! Made sure we felt comfortable and had great chat with some of them.
Be the first to ReplyI've had the privilege of being able to dine at Atomix
I've had the privilege of being able to dine at Atomix three times so far, although this is the first time I've had the gumption to write a review after visiting. One of the visits was prior to the pandemic, while two were since then, but the consistency of the presentation and the quality of the food has been nearly perfect each and every time. The entry is an innocuous door on 31st Street just off of Park Avenue, and after entering, you get escorted past the chic intimate bar upstairs (where you can also dine) down to the chef's 'counter' (although you are seated, and the kitchen is observable, but not easily so, in the back). The serving staff is warm and personable, unlike some other upper-crust restaurants in Manhattan that are quite stiff. The menu, with accessible cocktails, wines, and teas makes it so that you can have pretty much any beverage pairing you'd like. The plating is gorgeous and done on ceramics that are hand-picked by the chef, and each meal comes with flashcards that are beautiful in their own right (along with giving some background on the dishes). It's hard to recall the 30-odd courses that I have had the privilege of enjoying over my meals here, but suffice to say: the technique is excellent, and the blending of Western preparation and technique with Korean cuisine and its unique palate sets the standard for the rush of exciting new upscale Korean restaurants that have popping up in Manhattan. Portions are such that you're full at the end of the meal but not stuffed, and dinner itself moves along at a thoughtful pace but not so slowly that your meal will turn into an uncomfortably long experience. Seafood and meat courses are equally excellent, and compared to some restaurants that can overdo the truffle addition and seem to arbitrarily add it to any given dish should you choose to splurge, Atomix does a great job of ensuring that the balance of ingredients in every course is not altered.Manhattan is a great town to dine in, but Atomix is at or near the top of the list when it comes to top-flight dining. I've never had a dish that struck me as mediocre, ill-contrived, or filler in the middle of a tasting menu, which is something that I feel occurs more often than not when the menu gets lengthier. Every course at Atomix is perfection on its own, and together, the food in concert with one another conjures up a dining experience that is basically second to none in America's restaurant capital. Unquestionably worth a visit (or two, or more)!
Be the first to ReplyEverything about the experience was exceptional.
The space is otherworldly and yet not uncomfortable. I was on the first night of the Winter 2022 menu. There was so much complexity to the ingredients and execution that I find it difficult to recount here. Each ingredient of each dish was perfect. The composition of all the dishes was thoughtful and unique. And the service was world-class in a non-pretentious way.Servers rotate with courses to create an orchestral social flow to the evening. Though I was dining alone, I felt as though I was had several conversations going through the course of the evening. If there was any "miss" I'd say the ice cream with mushrooms. That dish didn't know whether it was a dessert or a savory item.

Phenomenal experience! Well deserved hospitality award. Friendly, personable- made you feel like you can connect with the staff. Food was hands down one of the best- enjoyed pretty much everything. Wine pairing is a must. The sommelier did an incredible job. Definitely our favorite dinner experience by far. We will definitely be back!

I am really disappointed to be writing a disappointing review. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant for so long given the hype and the ties it had to one of my favorites - Jungsik. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the way it is set up is fantastic. The service was great and the entire staff was so kind and gracious. My main gripe, and what I typically care about when I go to a restaurant, was with the food. The food was very subpar. There was only one dish that I would have considered a bite that I would consider memorable which is unfortunate because that is something you would expect at a restaurant with this price tag and popularity. They served us sea cucumber, potato pancakes, and I can't remember the rest because again, it was so non-memorable. However I do have to blame the seasonal menu. Based on the pictures on yelp - I would have enjoyed the other seasons more. Other menus had wagyu beef, langoustine tartar, etc etc which are dishes that to me, are things I would have been expecting. While I think this restaurant is probably great, the menu they had on July 29th, was not something I would call tier A. It was probably one of the more mediocre upscale tastings I've had in my food career. I would give this restaurant another shot but I would have to wait for the menu to change. It is unfortunate how far in advance you have to book because you can't really choose exactly what menu you get to try.

It was our third time back at Atomix and it was hands-down the most impressive meal I've ever had. There are too many dishes to discuss them individually, but the standouts were the kalguksu and the nurungi. The desserts were phenomenal as well. More so than any other time we've been to Atomix, this menu felt so true to its Korean roots. It is always so disappointing when I go to a modern/fusion Korean restaurant but the menu seems merely Korean-inspired. Here, each dish was clearly paying tribute to traditional Korean dishes and flavors. Everything tasted familiar and nostalgic, reminding me of the food that I grew up with but presented in a new and unique way. At its heart, it was Korean food, just elevated with French techniques and influences. The service was phenomenal as always. It was a bit disappointing that they raised their prices, but the economy is tough right now and it is still worth the visit. We ate this meal back in May and I still think about it months later. We cannot wait to come back!

I think much of the hype behind Atomix stems from the belief that most of the 2-star & 3-star restaurants in NYC feel extremely dated compared to what many 1-stars are doing. Now is the hype justified? I'm torn. I'd give the July 2022 menu 3.5 stars while the service/experience 5+ stars. The meal didn't start for me until the third course: red pepper noodles, jellyfish, and pine nut milk. The pine nut milk was sweet and excellent, pairing well with the unique textures of the jellyfish and noodles. The starters and courses that came beforehand were very safe. The other course I enjoyed was the sea cucumber, jidan sauce, and fermented tofu rice. It was a very nostalgic dish for me, and I'm always a fan of unique and native ingredients. The rest of the menu was somewhat whelming. I've had my fair share of tasting menus and have had better experiences in terms of the proportion of courses I've enjoyed. Ultimately, I felt like I was left wanting more.I feel bad giving this less than a 5-star rating because the people were SO nice and the whole experience was lovely. It's the full experience that I enjoy, and that goes for everywhere I eat at. I will definitely revisit Atomix since this current menu seems weaker than their previous ones.

Dining here was an unforgettable experience unlike any other. If you're looking for something truly special for a night out in NYC, this restaurant will 100% blow you away on both the food (taste AND presentation!) as well as the service. This is a multi-course meal designed around seasonal ingredients, complete with chef written narratives and artwork accompanying each dish. Every course was constructed with a unique point of view and an element of creative artistry. The menu includes a lot of seafood, but they do make modifications to align with your preferences. I recommend going for the wine pairing as well -- the delightful conversations we had with the sommelier about the wines were a major bonus on the whole experience.
