Substandard for the money.
Slow service and mediocre food. Think a wedding banquet and the food you eat there. Completely NOT worth the 900 for two price tag!!!

Hard to find, but in a garden that feels like an escape from city center paris

The vibe is Michelin Star restaurant extraordinaire! We were warmly greeted by Madeleine. We wanted to dine al fresco in the beautiful green & blooming garden under the perfect Parisian weather! Cherie got us our drinks. The pear juice. The peach juice. Sacha took our order. We went with the 6 course meal. The amuse-bouche was intoxicating. I may have blacked out it was soooo good. Small, crispy, delicate beautifully presented hors d'œuvres in a basket of delectable fun! It was followed by another green mint soup amuse-bouche. OMG. Lost orientation to person, place, and time! Sacha re-oriented me by explaining that Apicius was named after the chef that served Tiberius. Paul also helped serve. He has a passing resemblance to the Deep from The Boys. But unlike the Deep, Paul was super funny and rocked! Like a professor, he explained the history of the flat notched spoon. Great for skimming fat off bouillon. AND perfect now for scraping everybit of fab sauce off the plate. 1) The Hamachi with jellified cucumber water was refreshing. The micro greens were incredible. 2) Asparagus w/ crisp Croque-Monsieur twist had a tantalizing edge. 3) Lobster bisque w/ corral was splendid as expected. It had a surpising hint of chocolat. 4) The Pollock w/ spinach was sculpturally delish (and very different from the spilled paint paintings.) Ordered Blood orange theme. Orange dust. Perfectly fragrant Safffron sauce. Shhh...Paul said the extra pot of sauce he left at the table was for emergency use only. I quickly recognized that my dehydrated bread was in dire need of Saffron sauce infusion. "Nurse, hand me that spoon! Stat! Bread saved. Delicieux." 5) Veal w/ Aubergine ravioli, Morel mushroom, and hazelnut butter, peas...divine. I could hear angels singing. Satisfying. Succulent. Unbelievable mouthfeel. Perfect seasoning. Wowza! 6) Trifecta dessert. Instructions: take small scoop of chocolat sorbet then a small scoop of chocolat soufflé. Insert into pie hole. What ensues is the perfect juxtaposition of texture and temperature! Glorious! Then a pinch of heavenly cream to cleanse the palate and repeat! Magnifique! Finished off with dainty macaroons and fruit tart surprises. It was a perfect meal w/ the best people I know! Would order everything again. Just need to get a second mortgage is all. Woohoo!

Be the first to ReplyThere is something unique in today's French culinary scene
There is something unique in today's French culinary scene compared to the rest of the world. While, one might argue that majority of the Western world's cooking is derived from France also, which would certainly be a valid assertion, today's top restaurants in France are able to embrace something different. That something is the depth of tradition, the many generations of cooks that have had centuries to pass down techniques to their offspring and manage to keep that offspring in the same line of work. That depth of inherited knowledge results in some spectacular preparations that evolve gradually, but in a much more meticulous way than they do in the New World. In result, this passes down minor but significant improvements, thus pushing classicism over modernity through the abyss of time. And here we come to Apicius, a mansion housed restaurant that embodies this flow in an exemplary fashion. It recently became helmed by Mathieu Pacaud, the son of a the son of Bernard Pacaud of the Michelin three-star L'Ambroisie. The moment of transition from chef Jean-Pierre Vigato has passed, but the restaurant is still a perfect example of what French food is. Some could argue that it is overly traditional in both flavor and presentation for the price point where it sits. That would perhaps be true, but then we have to ask ourselves: is that really such a bad thing when the meal is executed so perfectly? From tender flavorful veal to the best artichoke I have ever tried, Apicius was a perfect place for a visitor to Paris wanting to try a highly focused execution of local cuisine. The turbot with clams and foam is a spectacular dish, balanced and succulent. Clams tartare simply, beautifully presented and also did not disappoint. Service was as expected, attentive to every detail and not overly formal or stuffy.Sitting in a group of four in a private room, it was amazing to have the freedom to be quite a bit louder in conversation and enjoy a comforting view of the courtyard within this 18th century mansion. There was one dish that needs to go and it is the chickpea macaroon which was was overly sweet and loaded with a terrible synthetic like flavor reminiscent of molten plastic. But, the chocolate soufflé easily cancelled out that tiny macaroon, being without a doubt the most delicate and balanced preparation I have tried anywhere. Apicius is a wonderful place and manages to preserve the charm of perfectly executed French kitchen, thus demonstrating that a pricey tasting menu does not have to be an experiment into the new and that there is reserved a place in this world for luxurious dining that admires the cycle of passed knowledge and complex technique.

This one is easy it's a beautiful well run well orchestrated symphony of ambience and gastronomy! Food was amazing the atmosphere was amazing and the service was amazing. And an all Este we were shocked at the price I had to ask our server if it was correct as she may have forgot to add something to our bill, she said no sir this is correct! Wow!We started with rosé champagne for starters The amuse-bouche One bite of pate was an amazing starting off point. Next was a very fresh tasting butternut squash soup topped with a citrus foam that made it bright and lively. Next for appetizer was fresh scallop served sushi style in the shell also bright and lively with the citrus overtone and fresh blue lobster. Our main courses were small bites of loin of veal and rack of lamb Served with of all things and anchovy sauce which we were a little skeptical of turned out to be fabulous fabulous. That she's played as well options with mild medium and bold flavors available we opted for the medium pallet and it was delicious. In all honesty the desserts were just OK the chocolate soufflé was a tad under cooked but the wifey enjoyed it nonetheless. My millefeuille croustillant was ok. Our main server Helène was fun sweet delightful and engaging. She really made sure we were well taken care of!We enjoyed our time immensely thank you so much!tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…

In terms of Michilin meals, I generally am way more serious and critical of the entire meal and food experience. The location of the restaurant is gorgous - tucked away behind a sign where you walk itno a gorgous courtyard and step into a mansion of a restaurant. The front desk was cordial and nice, and there was a coatcheck. We were offered appetizers prior to the menu offering which was nice. There are 2 options order as a meal set or a la carte. The menu is all french and divided into an appetizer, main course and then dinner. I ordered as a menu set and hubs got other dishes a la carte. The server did not explain the appetizers to us and I had to ask. We were then served a pumpkin soup (palete cleanser?) which was good. The pacing for the meal was perfect due to their high attention to detail and water was always filled. Caviar Mashpotatoes - tastyLangoustine tartare & cooked Lagoustine - solid dishMushroom Soup - rich and smoothFois Gras - so good Beef Steak - perfectly cookedPigeon & Duck - my favorite of the night. A little pink, had a great taste , more gamey flavor than anything in the states! Chocolate Soufflé - excellentIce Cream - this was good but by that time I was stuffed! Make a reservation and expect to be there for 2-3 hours! Overall It was a great meal , but not for everyday

Be the first to ReplyAny amazing dining experience.
The setting gets you in the mood to dine well ... the food lives up to the setting and really completes the experience.
Be the first to ReplyWhat an amazing place.
From the staff to the amuse-bouche to every detail put into your experience it could not have been better. We went for a mother-daughter dinner and will be back without question. We did the tasting menu and were blown away. I had ris de veau, what they are known best for and it was INCREDIBLE. They blew all of my expectations out of the water. The small hotel was in the heart of Paris but was tucked away behind gates and it was so quiet, I felt like we had escaped to the countryside. We unfortunately did not make it until desert because we couldn't pace ourselves with the other courses but even their small plate of sweets we were given with our check were unbelievable. This was my favorite dining experience in Paris thus far.

In Apicius you feel as if you were getting to the countryside - a private building surrounded by a very large garden. The food is incredible, the barmen can do pretty much anything you want. My sweet teeth particularly enjoy the dessert, the Grand Marnier soufflé, and the small sweet bites at the end: tarte à la praline, tuile de carambar...In other words: a place that must be tried!
