Host and sommelier elevate an excellent lunch with superlative service
Food, wine and ambiance was superb. Antiqvvm had recently received their second Michelin Star, so recently, the coveted plaque was not yet up. However, I had 3 star service from my excellent host Manuel, assisted by the equally friendly and knowledgeable sommelier Rafael. The two of them made an excellent three hour lunch even more memorable. Thank you Manuel and Rafael.

Excellent tasting menu. It's been a long time since we enjoyed an end-to-end, no-holds-barred menu. No dish left something to be desired, the paired wines (all Portuguese) were very pleasing. Impeccable service with a stunning view of the Douro. I recommend.

There's not much you can say about a Michelin-starred restaurant. The prize awarded and the status speak for themselves. The restaurant's terrace with a fantastic view over the Douro River, the service and the tasting menu make this space a place of excellence in the city of Porto. I chose the organic menu, which is a vegetarian menu, without meat or fish. As a result, the ingredients used are, on average, very cheap (fruit, vegetables, cheese). The presentation is impeccable in every aspect and pleases both the eye and the touch: each dish is served on elegant plates, either cold or heated, depending on the product served. Regarding the food itself, divided into seven dishes, I must say that only half (Umami, Memorias, La florida) left me truly satisfied.

An exceptional experience with splendid treatment from its staff. We were very pleasantly surprised by the menu. The wine pairing showed us the great variety of grapes that there are in Portugal and that we were unaware of. Highlight the location with exceptional views of the Luís I Bridge.

We had the chance and the pleasure to dine there for New Year’s Eve, it was exquisite! The service was absolutely perfect, impeccable, with very friendly efforts to speak French, the dishes with incredible flavors, we enjoyed ourselves, and the word is weak, from the appetizer to the sweets, all served in very beautiful tableware, including superb Christian Lacroix plates. The sauces among other things were excellent. The food/wine pairings were very well chosen… this evening will remain in our memories. The view of the Douro from a beautiful terrace is very pleasant. A culinary experience to try!

I had been trying to get a reservation here when I went in September for my 18th wedding anniversary with no luck. My friend and I went back to Porto in October and tried for dinner again....no luck, but they did have a lunch reservation available and we grabbed it. First of all the location is beautiful but a little secluded. That said Parque da Quinta da Macieirinha is close by and you can hear the animals in the park, which makes it even more special. Now for the food, which was exceptional. This was a wonderful dining experience. There were only two choices on the menu, with wine pairing as an option. We did the pairings and had the sommelier provide us a list of the wines as well. The service was friendly, helpful and every dish explained. I would highly recommend if you can get a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyA true fine dining experience in a stunning setting
Well the summary is this is a true epicurean experience for foodies. It is a beautiful setting. The service was great. My own highlight was the Somelier who was absolutely superb. I have a reasonable cellar and he really listened to what I wanted including on budget. We did not opt for the matched wines. The quality of the Portuguese wines he picked for us was a revelation. My reflections about all the courses was there was terrific balance with the dishes. The degustation is not cheap at 165 Euros per head but boy can you see the skill and work. Great wine at very reasonable prices for a 1 star. This is up there with high end experiences including en par with Geranium in Copenhagen rated No 1 in the world. Yes the latter had a few extra touches but frankly enjoyed this as much or more.

This restaurant thoroughly deserves its Michelin Star. Every course was sublime and the wine pairing was exceptional with excellent explanations from the sommelier. We dined outside on the most stunning terrace on a beautiful evening with lovely views over Porto in a very peaceful and romantic setting. Finally our waiter for the evening was exceptional, I did not catch his name but he looked after us brilliantly and had only been working there a few weeks, but clearly had studied the menu and got us everything we needed throughout the evening. Thank you to him too.

Wonderful dining experience and would definitely come back when next in Porto. Service friendly, helpful and went above and beyond to help make a very special evening. Vegetarian tasting menu simply excellent - each dish so varied, special just when you thought it could not get any better. And view of sun going down over the Douro from the terrace is a lovely way to start the evening.

What a beautiful experience. From exiting the car , down the ambient stairs to the restaurant at night to the welcoming attention of the high quality service in this restaurant. Every detail thought about. The attention to detail and colour, flavour and excuisitness of the food to the super service from all sides. What an experience. We did both menus and pairing and am so glad we did. A night to remember forever. Thankyou.
Be the first to ReplyNew Year’s Eve to remember
We had dinner here on New Year’s Eve. It was spectacular and worth every cent. The setting, the food, the wine matches, the service and fellow diners. Shame the city cancelled the fireworks due to the weather as that would have been a fitting end to an amazing evening. Would thoroughly recommend

We visited in June (see my previous review) and it was one of the most sublime meals I have ever had. This evening our experience fell off a cliff in terms of service and taste. Incredibly the same chef, but the floor lacked a maitre d. This time round the savoury dishes were either overly sweet or overly seasoned. Both of us got back to the hotel with our tongues hanging out of our mouths gasping for tea. A few of the dishes really worked well and felt balanced e.g the scallops & dessert. Halfway through the meal we commented to our waiter about our misgivings but were told “…we changed our menu last week”. Err, and ? The sommelier chose well, no complaints although DOP (a consistently great restaurant in town) has a more enigmatic selection. In June Antiqvvm restaurant had a vigilant maitre d who made her presence felt across the floor, she was sadly missed tonight. Our waiter was way to green behind the ears, very tense from the start and couldn’t really process feedback. He really shouldn’t be on the floor, at least not yet; the other two waiters we liked but they weren’t serving us. Our waiter should bear in mind that when giving critical feedback we’re not critical of him but critical of the chef. You ask us how we’re the dishes so we tell you. The same waiter prepared the most disastrous matcha tea that tasted like soap water. When my Japanese partner commented about why she couldn’t drink the tea he seemed overwhelmed and unable to compute her comments. I made some general comments on the drop in quality to the sommelier at the end of the evening but was again met with “…we changed our menu last week”. I repeated my point but he didn’t seem very interested. One has to ask how can things go SO wrong in 6 months ? Really confused. Turn it around please.

Go. It’s worth going to Porto solely to eat here. Probably the one of the best meals I’ve ever had, anywhere. Faultless in every way : location, service and above all cooking.

This is an excellent place to enjoy an outstanding dinner. I recommed to choose the menu together with the wine pairing. Any changes to the menue are managed flawlessly. The chef and the team deserves the Michelin star without any doubt.

It's a gastro experience I certainly want to repeat. First of all it's a magnificent 18th century building full of history. Secondly, the food is one of a kind consisted of 3A raw materials-apart from the summer truffle- and a lot of fantasy. The tall waiter that took care of us all night should be awarded for his professionalism and kindness. Three minor things that I have listed in my diary are: 1. We never serve tap, full of chlorine water to a customer who selected bottled water. Just asked for half glass of water to get my vitamin when finished my dinner and I was served tap water. It destroyed the after taste of all the magnificent aromas chef Vitor Matos invented. 2. The sommelier shouldn't be so strict. Smile is free of charge. Concerning our communication I must admit that it was not successful. I asked for a riesling for my fish and the answer was But it's too sweet. Then I asked for a viognier and the answer was that In Portugal we don't have Viognier. In five seconds he told me We do have one Viognier. 3. Fish portions are on the small size. 20% more would be ideal

We had the 7-course menu, adapted for vegetarians, with addapted wines, and a cocktail upfront, outside on the terrace, for 489€. The food was perfect, the wines even better. Both the waiter as the sommelier were superfriendly and spoke very good English.

Absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived we were so impressed, firstly with the warm welcome and ambiance, followed by the wonderful menu. Unfortunately for us, time constraints meant we would not have enough time to savour any of the tasting menus, so we opted for a couple of courses. These 2 courses actually transformed into 5 courses with the addition of small chefs treats, which were delicious. Everything we ate was wonderful, outstanding items were beautiful smoked eel, scallops and the most perfectly cooked cod. This restaurant needs to be visited as my words cannot do it justice.

We have tried another Michelin restaurant in Porto before and that was very good. So we had high hopes for our visit to Antiqvvm. Entering the place we had the most amazing view overlooking the river and the last bridge. The food was just great and our sommelier found one white vine and a red wine which suited the food perfectly. Service was nothing but perfect. Thank you for a really nice time :-)
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Michelin Star experience
The restaurant is in a beautiful setting with great views from the Terrace (drinks before hand) over the Douro river. Immaculate cooking and service well worth its Michelin star is the highlight though. We had the 7 course tasting menu and the vegetarian menu and they were very good in substituting dishes as some were inappropriate to our dietary requirements. So many highlights to choose from makes it difficult to select a favourite dish. The also had a very interesting home made gin.

We enjoy Michelin Star restaurants so happy to book this 1 star during our trip to Porto with our 2 young daughters. We may have pushed them too far to go for the 9 course tasting menu - but they usually share 1 between 2 and manage well. This menu enticed us with their offering - having only 1 dessert (some offer 2 or 3 - which we prefer more the savoury courses). We enjoyed a drink on the terrace before entering the restaurant with a professional & attentive service. We received advice on choosing a good white wine - perfect for us & not at all over priced. Every course that arrived for us was a winner - great technical skill but also flavours that were interesting & spot on. As others have mentioned - possibly another star may not be far away! Our girls struggled towards the end as getting a little tired - though the courses were served in a timely manner we proposed missing the last cheese & dessert course & mentioned to our waiter. They advised the dessert could be brought out immediately so of course we opted to stay & try. Very glad that we did - not usually being our favourite course but the lemon pie blew us away. Simply fantastic & a great end to the evening. Served with style & passion.

Fantastic Michelin star restaurant located a little bit outside the main part of Porto, past the Cristal Palace. It's a bit hard to find if you are walking and using google maps, as an FYI. Service was excellent - attentive and friendly but not overbearing. We did the lunch tasting menus and wine pairings which were phenomenal. All the wines were from Portugal. The food was absolutely incredible and I will remember this meal for the rest of my life. Every course was spectacular. The setting on the terrace overlooking the River Douro is beautiful.

This was the best food we had in Portugal, and one of my top 10 of all time! Stunning cooking, artistic and utterly delicious. 7+ course tasting menu, with paired wine - faultless. The ambiance is wonderful, and the staff were exceptional. One Michelin star, but easily deserving of two. Not cheap, but worth every euro.

The Antiquum is a one star Michelin restaurant that deserves to have two. We came here for lunch on a very quiet Tuesday. We were almost the only guests. While it was sunny, it was too cold to eat outside on the terrace, with its beautiful view. While the initial greeting was a bit weird, uncharming, things improved very fast. We got a great table just at the window and very personal, knowledgeable and prompt service from here on out. I had the vegetarian tasting menu, while the rest of the group went for the full pescadorian and carnivorous experience. We started things off with a dry sparkling wine and then had an incredible historic red from 1967. I thought the sommelier pegged us exactly right and matched us perfectly. The food was a heavenly experience- surprising at times, but always perfect and mouthwateringly good. The vegetarian menu is beyond delicious and my friends went from praise to praise over there dishes. Really what the chef delivers here is art. Every bite makes you glad to be alive. Nectar and ambrosia - Truly food for the Gods. I especially want thank our waiter, who not only gave us a lot of insight into the Portugese cuisine, but was a joy to talk to and elevated the meal to a celebration of live.
